Practical Tech Tip
RF Capacitance for Plastics?  Yes!

Whenever sensing low dielectric materials such as plastic, allow the material to fully cover the sensing probe (do not set calibration as a tip-sensitive device). Monitor's TrueCap RF Capacitance level probes have been used reliably in challenging plastic applications such polyethylene (PET). TrueCap RF level sensors are designed to sense low-dielectric materials even in the stub probe configuration.

TrueCap Series of
RF Capacitance Level Sensors

Perhaps you have been hesitant to use RF Capacitance in plastics given your knowledge that plastics are inherently difficult to sense.  Well, you can rest easy knowing that Monitor's line of TrueCap RF Capacitance probes have been specifically designed to overcome the challenges associated with plastic applications.

It is important to realize that not all RF Capacitance probes are manufactured to operate in all applications. There are some extremely low-cost products on the market that simply will not operate reliably on the more challenging applications such as plastics.  Monitor's TrueCap series includes probe configurations that can detect small amounts of capacitance (associated with plastics) and includes electronics with immunity to static electricity discharges and stability over a wide range of operating temperatures.
