From the Principal

Welcome back to 2nd semester and Happy New Year!

On Friday, your student participated in a peer-designed and peer-led activity called WHS UNITY MOSAIC, and before the activity, I addressed students with this message:  "I'm talking to you today about student voice and campus safety.  This afternoon, during SSR in your 7th period class, is an activity to showcase your student voices, to showcase the diversity of campus, and to showcase how Woodside will move forward without violent language and without violent actions.  We don't have to agree, but we do have to welcome all voices on a safe campus.  The SSR activity today continues our pathway to unity and was designed by your peers and will be led by your peers; I know you'll enjoy it."

I am working with various student and staff groups to provide for more safe activities that 1) protect class time and 2) protect student rights and 3) use nonviolent language and promote nonviolent actions.

Advanced Placement Exams at WHS

Now is the time of year when we prepare to order the Advanced Placement Exams for students in AP classes. The testing will be at Woodside High School in the first two weeks of May.

Use the following link to sign up for AP Exams: http://bit.ly/APregistration2017

The AP students and their teachers have been working hard since school began to prepare for these tests and will continue to work and review with the expectation that all students will take the tests. The teachers will be expecting all students to review, study, practice, and prepare, and many teachers give practice AP exams that count substantially toward all students' semester grades (including those who will not be sitting for the official exams).

The cost for each AP exam is $98.
Reduced fees are automatically available for students who have qualified for free or reduced lunch. We also hope to provide some financial assistance for other students who need it. Please contact Susan Garcia (367-9750. Ext. 40050) for questions about fee reductions and payment.
In order to meet the ordering deadlines, all AP students must make payment arrangements by Monday, February 27, 2017. Payments are made in the Treasurer's Office OR by credit card using Infinite Campus.

Students who do not sign up and make payment arrangements for AP tests will not get the opportunity to take the tests. No extra tests will be ordered.

We are also willing to order and administer Advanced Placement tests to students who are not enrolled in the corresponding courses (including AP exams for courses that we do not offer).

Free Teen Heart Screening Event!

Did you know 7,000-10,000 children die each year from undetected heart conditions? To prevent this statistic from rising, we are bringing a FREE teen heart screening event to Menlo-Atherton High School on January 29th, 2017.

Registration for this event is open NOW and is limited to the first 750 students, ages 13-19, from the Sequoia Union High School District. The screening includes an EKG, review of child and family health history, and echo cardiogram (as deemed necessary). The screening has a $600-$6000 value and is brought to you at NO cost, thanks to our partnership with Via Heart Project and sponsors Sequoia Healthcare District and the NFL Alumni Association
