SamTrans is conducting a study of youth mobility needs in San Mateo County, and is looking for input from youth and the parents and guardians of San Mateo youth between the ages of 12 and 18. Your input will help them identify initiatives for making it easier for youth to travel to Woodside High School.

This is an issue of increasing concern to the District.  The links to the English and Spanish versions of the Safe Routes to School Parent Survey are below.  Our school is a grantee of Safe Routes funds, so our participation is expected.  It is about a 5 minute survey and will remain open until December 16th.

Principal Burbank

From SamTrans:

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. Your feedback allows us to adjust Safe Routes to School (SRTS) education and encouragement program features to best meet the needs of each individual school.  Your feedback will also be shared with decision makers who can address infrastructure issues regarding safe walking and biking.  This survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.

CSU AND UC Preview Days for Seniors and Juniors

Preview Days are open houses on campuses for prospective students (seniors and juniors) and their families. These are excellent opportunities to see the campus, speak to faculty and students, find out about student and campus life, and get information about the application process and financial aid.

Foundation News

foundation
As we move into November, the month of Thanksgiving, the Woodside High School Foundation has much to be grateful for.  Thanks our donors, who enable new and innovative programs in our school.  Thanks to our teachers - they do some inspired things with the "Teacher Grants" that they receive.  And thanks to our kids!  Great programs are of value only when the students take an interest and get involved.

Please read the following from teacher David Shannon who explains how a grant was used for The Green Academy:

The WHS Foundation generously met our request for six Solar Suitcases.  These are control modules for photovoltaic systems that will be installed in underdeveloped areas around the world.  The students were given the hands-on task of assembling and testing the systems.  I believe that they gained a better understanding of electronics and the specific function of the components than they would have by classroom instruction alone. I think they also took it more seriously when they were told these units were going out into the far reaches of the real world and were not just classroom kits.  These units will ultimately be placed in countries like Uganda, Kenya, and the Philippines, providing power for lights and computers in schools and libraries.

If you missed donation day, please donate at www.whsfoundation.org or mail a check to:

We're inside two weeks to the "Evening of Entertainment" performance of "The Canterville Ghost". This delightful comedy is about an American family who purchase an English Manor House and get the added pleasure of a ghost! However, the tables are turned as the children of this "don't believe in ghosts" family start to terrorize their ghost and lots of laughter ensues. Mark your calendars for Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm to join us in our own PAC for these performances. Tickets will be on sale the week before the production at lunch and after school in the PAC and, of course, the night of the show; Adults: $10 / Students: $5.

Also, a friendly reminder, if someone in your family is intending to audition for the Spring Music - "Anything Goes" - auditions are November 28 - December 2. Singing auditions are early in the week and dancing towards the end. You'll have to sign up for the first part, so listen for announcements about how to get you slot!

  • The deadline for submissions is Wednesday at 4 PM for publication on Sunday evening.
  • If you are one of our regular contributors, you will be receiving an email every Monday night reminding you to send in your news. If you want to be added to the "regulars" distribution list, please email us at whsupdate@gmail.com.
