From the Weekly Update Editors
Happy second week of school! Or is it third? Two and half?
As the whole school community settles in the routine of the new school year, the Weekly Update Editorial Team is ready to settle in their routine to give you timely and accurate news about Woodside High School. So here are some changes and reminders:
- The deadline for submissions is now Wednesday at 4 PM for publication on Sunday evening.
- If you are one of our regular contributors, you will be receiving an email every Monday night reminding you to send in your news. If you want to be added to the "regulars" distribution list, please email us at whsupdate@gmail.com.
- Please keep articles short and focused. Include the event, date, time, location, and contact info, including URL if available.
- Please do not send attachments: send article content in the body of the email. If you send us a flyer, we will include it only as a link to a downloadable document, so the readers will have to click to open and read it. They probably won't, so again: do not send us flyers.
- Please spell check and proofread submissions.
- The PTSA Weekly Update Editorial Team reserves the right to edit or reject submissions.
- No special or additional editions of Weekly Update will be sent out unless the subject matter impacts the ENTIRE school population. Such special editions are exclusively at the discretion of the Weekly Update editors, the PTSA President, and the school administration.

Woodside is seeking a coach for our award-winning Cheer Team. The person should be willing to commit to two practices per week of approximately 2.5 hours each and Friday night football and basketball games. The stipend is $3,500 - anyone interested can inquire with athletic director Chuck Velschow at cvelschow@seq.org or apply on EdJoin.
Back-to-School Night

Then your "academic day" starts with 1st period at 7 p.m., and you'll rotate through classes every ten minutes. Your student will bring home a paper schedule with a map on the back on Tuesday or Wednesday. Counselors will be available in the MUR to print schedules as needed.
Arrive early for the best parking and carpool, please! See you Thursday night!
CSF Starts Monday, August 29
California Scholarship Federation (CSF) promotes and recognizes students with above-average grades. To become a lifetime member, a student must submit an application and meet the eligibility requirements for four semesters or more. A point system specified in the CSF State By-Laws establishes membership requirements. Benefits for lifetime members include recognition at WHS Senior Awards Night and in the WHS Graduation program.
Applications and course lists are available in the College&Career Center (D9) or online here. Students must submit their application forms for the second semester of 2015-16 to D9 by Friday, September 9. The submitted application packet must include:
- Completed CSF application
- Copy of the previous semester's report card or transcript.
Contact Zorina Matavulj at zmatavulj@seq.org with questions.

From the PTSA
It was wonderful to see so many families at Arena Check-In! The PTSA welcome table was very busy meeting, greeting, and reminding people to renew their PTSA membership. If you have not already joined, please do by going to this link:
There are both forms for downloading as well as a very simple online form that links to PayPal. It is very quick and easy and much appreciated! Please consider making an extra donation to the general fund as this helps fund our programs for teachers, students, and parents.
Our first meeting is on Monday, August 29 at 7 PM in the MUR conference room - all parents welcome!
The PTSA Class Committees will meet on Monday, August 29 as well, at 7:30 PM in the MUR. A PTSA Board Representative will be there to welcome the Class of 2020 and introduce them to the PTSA and their Class Committee responsibilities.
Wildcat Football Season is here and we need your help running the concession stand!
Ways to help are:
- Sign up to bring something
- Sign up to help at set up, serve or clean up the day of the game
- Donate money to purchase items
Mark your calendars, games are the following Friday nights:
Below is a list of non-perishable items we need donated:
- soda
- waters
- gatorade/snapple
- boxes of snack sized chips

From the Athletic Boosters Organization (ABO)
Booster Ticket Program
Are you getting ready for the Wildcats' first football home game on September 9? Purchase your Boosters Ticket Program here
and you will have four (4) tickets to all football and basketball home games for the 2016-17 seasons.
Please note that your will NOT receive the tickets home, but your name will be placed on the list at the gate.
New Committee Needed for Senior Fashion Show
As a Woodside tradition, the Athletic Booster Organization (ABO) has been running the Spring Fashion Show for all seniors to participate in. The ABO board has not been able to find a new chair or even a committee for the 2017 Senior Fashion.
This long-standing Woodside tradition for the senior class simply will NOT happen without a committed group of volunteer running it, so the ABO board has decided to offer up this event for any other group on campus to run it.
Anyone can run this event, and all proceeds would benefit their chosen WHS group, NOT the ABO.

From the Drama Boosters
Are you back in the routines of school life yet? Well, there's no time to just settle in! At least not if you're a student interested in being in the "Evening of Theater" Fall play...try-outs/auditions are right around the corner!
Auditions will be held after school in the PAC on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday NEXT WEEK! That's September 7, 8, and 9. Please pick-up the form you need to bring to the audition in the main office or from Mr. Woodruff, whose office is in the PAC. AND mark your calendars so you don't miss being entertained by this "Evening of Theater". You'll have two chances to be entertained: Friday and Saturday evenings, November 18 and 19.
And, since we're talking about auditions, if you have a talent you want to share with your classmates and family, auditions for "Woodside's Got Talent" are also just around the corner. Get your act together and bring it to auditions in the PAC on Thursday, September 22. You will need a form for this audition as well. Come prepared to perform your "act". The Woodside's Got Talent Show is on Thursday, October 6. Put it on your calendar! You'll want to come see the talent if you're not going to share yours with us.
