Make it a great week.
CALENDAR

THIS WEEK:

UPCOMING:

  • Monday, Aug 29: Big Read 6th Period
  • Monday, Aug 29: PTSA Meeting, 7pm
  • Wednesday, Aug 31: Auction Kick-Off Party, 7pm
  • Thursday, Sept 1: Back to School Night, 6:30pm
  • Friday, Sept 2: Minimum Day, 12:30 PM dismissal

On Saturday, August 27, there will be a college application bootcamp in the MUR for Woodside seniors.

9:00am-9:45am--the UC application
10:00am-10:45am--the Common App
11:00am-11:30am--Naviance

There will be a brief overview of both application interfaces followed by a more specific presentation highlighting the sections that often generate the most questions. Finally, the focus will shift to Naviance and the elements that must be completed in order for letters and transcripts to be sent to colleges.

All seniors requesting letters of recommendation must attend a Common App workshop during first semester (several will be held). Attendance on Saturday (8/27) will satisfy this requirement. If a student is considering applying early action or early decision, attending the Aug 27th bootcamp is recommended.

Shared Decision Making Council Seeks Recruits

Principal Burbank is recruiting three parents to serve for the year on the Shared Decision Making Council (SDMC) which meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday afternoons from 4 - 6 pm on campus. The SDMC is also the school site council.  It operates on a consensus model with teachers, staff, students, a community member, and parents represented.  If you're looking for an avenue to get more involved with local education beyond the fundraising for your student's class or supporting one of the booster clubs on campus, this may be your opportunity.  The SDMC monitors progress on the school goals and approves campus initiatives such as The BIG Read, bell schedules, and staff development day content.  Our two school goals are 1) close the achievement gap through a focus on literacy skills and 2) build a spirited school community based on the 8 Conditions of Student Success.

You may also contact SDMC facilitator, Mr. Matt Middoughatmmiddough@seq.org   for more information.

Three parents are needed to serve.  Express your interest in an e-mail to Principal Burbank (dburbank@seq.org) with a 150-word blurb about your interest and qualifications by Fri, Aug 26, 2016, at 4 pm.  Your submittal will be published along with other candidates for voting on back-to-school night.  Should you be elected, you'll receive a binder with important documents and a training prior to the SDMC meeting.

Are you a returning WHS parent?  Please let new parents know why YOU support the Foundation.  Are you a new parent with questions about the Foundation?  Our weekly posts and upcoming fall mailing may answer your questions...but if not, feel free to contact our Foundation President, Lucia Tedesco, at president@whsfoundation.org any time.

In the meantime...what better way than to start the year off with a party?  We still have openings to several events that were offered at last year's Auction.  Pick your favorite and we'll see you there:

Class of 2020 Parents Freshman Flashback Cocktail Party -Friday, August 26

Psych up for the US Open with an Adult Tennis Social -Saturday, August 27 - only 2 spots left!

Tailgate with the Principal - Friday, September 2 -

Booster Ticket Program

Are you getting ready for the Wildcats' first football home game onSeptember 9? Purchase your Boosters Ticket Program here
and you will have four (4) tickets to all football and basketball home games for the 2016-17 seasons.

Please note that your will NOT receive the tickets home, but your name will be placed on the list at the gate.

New Committee Needed for Senior Fashion Show

As a Woodside tradition, the Athletic Booster Organization (ABO) has been running the Spring Fashion Show for all seniors to participate in. The ABO board has not been able to find a new chair or even a committee for the 2017 Senior Fashion.

This long-standing Woodside tradition for the senior class simply will NOT happen without a committed group of volunteer running it, so the ABO board has decided to offer up this event for any other group on campus to run it.

Anyone can run this event, and all proceeds would benefit their chosen WHS group, NOT the ABO.

Please consider carrying the torch for this event. If interested, please contact us at https://woodsideathletics.org/
