We also need 1-2 large trucks to take remaining items to Goodwill at the end of the sale.

ALL proceeds from table rentals, our own Class of 2017 sold items & concessions (during sale & coinciding Hit-a-Thon) go toward the 2017 fund.

Volunteers Needed for Staff Appreciation Week

Staff Appreciation Week is coming up May 9-13th. Our committee is looking for several people to join us this year to learn the ropes as several of our members are graduating along with their students.

If you are interested in helping or have an idea, please email Charmaine McCrystal at crystalini@mac.com.

From the Principal:
To Freshmen Families:

In October on College Day, freshmen established their Naviance accounts that they will use to navigate college and major exploration, college applications, and letters of recommendation.

We are continuing that college focus this spring, and, over the next three weeks, freshmen will have the opportunity to go on a field trip on a guided campus tour of either Menlo College, Stanford, San Francisco State, or San Jose State with their PE class. In order to get guided campus tours, not all PE classes are going to the same college campus on the same day. The field trip permission slips (two different pages) will indicate what day, what periods, and what college campus your student will visit. Your student's PE teacher will distribute and collect the permission slips and chaperone (additional school staff will also chaperone) the college campus visit.

Students will be provided a reflection sheet to guide their experience on the campus tour and to guide their thinking about college, too. PE teachers will collect that reflection sheet and encourage discussion as these 14 and 15-year-olds begin to "see" themselves as 18-19-year-olds on a college campus.

These College Day field trips are made possible through a WHS Foundation donor!

Books 4 Hope @ Woodside High School

The Philanthropy committee from the Leadership Program is collecting books for St. Vincent dePaul from April 25-May 6. These books are sold to help St. Vincent de Paul raise money for their various causes. One book sold can provide three meals. Students will be having a grade level competition. The class that brings in the most books will receive a hosted class board social on May 11. Of course, anyone can drop off books. Books can be dropped off in D7 or the main office.

Fund-A-Need: Expand College Counseling Services
to find the right college fit for all Woodside High Students

At Woodside High School we believe that college awareness and preparation should start early and that the college application process should be as stress-free as possible. To support the students they are today and the adults they wish to become, we are looking to add to the college counseling services on campus:

  • An additional part-time college counselor
  • 9th and 10th grade focus on college major and career exploration using Naviance so that students have solid familiarity prior to college application process
  • Small group appointments for juniors following the successful "March into College" series
  • Application and beyond assistance for seniors, providing support insuring all documents are received by the college, identifying grants and other sources for financial assistance, interpreting the college financial award letter, and helping evaluate among acceptances
  • Woodside High School graduate panels to share their college experience with current students
  • SAT test preparation for the new format of the SAT
AND much more...

Let's raise $75,000 to expand college counseling services on campus!

SPORT NEWS

Woodside High's Sailing Team qualified for Stanford University's NorCal High School Invitational Regatta this past weekend.  WHS had 2 boats competing with sailors Joseph Politi & Tyler Davis and Matthew Wright & Jessica O'Neill, and the team finished in second place overall.  The last regatta of the season is next weekend at Encinal Yacht Club in Alameda.

DRAMA BOOSTERS

It feels like there's a lull in the drama world at Woodside High School, but don't be fooled. The Drama Classes are working hard, putting together the all-student run, directed, staged, and acted production for our entertainment. Remember, the Drama Class production will be presented on
Thursday, May 12th at 7:00pm. This is the correct time and date. The calendar on the Woodside HS website is incorrect.
Also, remember, if you are a Senior with the intention of going into theater arts in college, you can apply for the Drama Booster Club scholarship. It is our tradition to give 2 - $1,000.00 scholarships, one to a female student and one to a male student. Applications can be obtained in the Career Counseling office. The deadline is towards the end of May. You do NOT have to have participated in the Woodside Drama Department during your time at Woodside (though it doesn't hurt). We look forward to receiving your application.
