Message from Principal Burbank
WHS is a recipient of some funding from the Safe Routes to School grant which supports the bike shed in the upper part of the student lot.  Students in the Green Academy benefit from the bike shed.  As part of that grant, we are required to survey parents about how their students get to school.  Please help by completing the survey, clicking below.  The survey takes about five minutes.  On the first page, in the "other" box, type in "Woodside High School" and then click through the survey.  Many of the questions are elementary-based, I realize, and may not make sense for your teenager; answer the best you can, please.   Thanks for your time!

2015 Holiday Luncheon for WHS Staff & Teachers
It's that time of year when we show a bit of our appreciation to the WHS staff and teachers with a holiday luncheon on Wednesday, Dec 16.  We'll be serving comforting hot soup, bread, salad and homemade cookies in the New Gym Foyer -- it should be a great way to send them off to their holiday!

We still need a few crock pots and some help cleaning up.

Betsy Carter, PTA Hospitality committee and mother of Liz Atkin, Senior.

WOODSIDE PARENT EDUCATION SERIES

"Distracted Driving Workshop"
Kelly Browning, PhD, Impact Teen Drivers (California Highway Patrol)

Thursday, January 14, 2016, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Woodside High School, Multi-Use Room (MUR)

Automobile collisions are the leading cause of death for our nation's teens. The overwhelming majority of  these crashes are caused by inexperience or distractions, not "thrill-seeking" or deliberate risk-taking. Teens drivers are at the highest risk: the crash rate (per miles driven) for 16 years olds is four times that of adults.

In this workshop, you will learn about:
  • Strategies to keep your teens safe on the road
  • Graduated Drivers Licensing (GDL) laws
  • The Rules of the Road for teen drivers
  • How YOU can stop the  #1 killer of teens in America--reckless and distracted driving
Since 2007, Impact Teen Drivers has emerged as a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the pervasive yet 100% preventable crisis of "distracted driving." Impact's mission is to change the culture of teen driving, thereby saving lives in this and future generations of drivers.

Parents, students, faculty/staff, and community members welcome!
Spanish interpretation will be available Free admission.

Woodside Parent Education Series events are sponsored by the Woodside PTSA, the Sequoia Healthcare District, and the Sequoia Union High School District.

DRAMA BOOSTERS
Well...auditions are over and so there's a lull for the Boosters as we wait for our Director, Barry Woodruff, to make his casting decisions. There were 36 girls and 21 boys who received a "callback" after their initial audition for singing. Most will be asked to stay on as part of the ensemble with those who Barry chooses to play the significant "speaking" parts. Whether they are in the ensemble or have a more prominent part, this is a great experience and I know you are all in for a treat when the show is presented in March.

Please be thinking about how you might be involved with the production. The Little Mermaid will present some unique challenges, particularly in costumes, props, and sets. We need your creative contributions, so consider joining us in supporting this event. If you are interested please contact me: Jim Larkin at [email protected] and if you would like to stay informed about the production needs and schedules via email, please join the WHS-Theater Google group by sending an email to [email protected]. Please indicate if you would prefer a daily digest or individual emails.
