It's a busy December, starting with our monthly PTSA meeting on Monday. Fall Sports Awards are Tuesday and the Music Department Concert is Thursday. Your student can audition for "The Little Mermaid" this week after school.

2015 Holiday Luncheon for WHS Staff & Teachers
It's that time of year when we show a bit of our appreciation to the WHS staff and teachers with a holiday luncheon on Wednesday, Dec 16. We'll be serving comforting hot soup, bread, salad and homemade cookies in the New Gym Foyer -- it should be a great way to send them off to their holiday!
Please consider baking cookies or helping out on the day of the luncheon.

MUSIC BOOSTERS
All are invited to Woodside's Winter Concert "Let there Be Music" on Thursday, December 3, 7pm in the PAC. Concert Band, String Orchestra, Full Orchestra, Vocal Ensemble, and Jazz Band will all perform. Admission is free and desserts will be sold. Download flyer.

DRAMA BOOSTERS
I trust you had a fun, restful, and gastronomically satisfying Thanksgiving! By now auditions for Disney's "The Little Mermaid" are scheduled and will kick-off on Monday afternoon. As the production kicks into high gear after the Holidays, please consider how you might contribute to the production. There are numerous ways to participate and all of them have their own appeal: costumes, props, set building/painting, promoting, concessions, tickets, and on and on. You can imagine all the special challenges putting on "The Little Mermaid" will bring us and your creativity and energy will be greatly needed and forever appreciated. Please join us.

"Successful College Applications: Showcase Your Achievements in the Arts"

Join us for a presentation by Harriet Katz, the Creative Kid College Coach. Learn the benefits of an arts education and how to position the arts for competitive advantage when applying to college. This talk will focus on highlighting the arts experience for students applying to any college, as well as those with special arts programs.
With over 20 years of professional experience in the arts, Harriet helps students identify programs and prepare materials when applying to college visual and performing arts programs. She coaches creative kids effectively communicate their individuality and navigate the college application process!

Stanford Science Circle Program for High School Students
The Stanford Science Circle, an academic enrichment program from Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies, offers quarter-long classes for local high school students who are interested in exploring the vast and exciting world of scientific research.
The 2015-16 Winter Quarter theme is Physical Sciences & Engineering. The high school program begins on January 13 and runs for 10 weeks (ending on March 16).
Weekly sessions are held for high school students (only) at Stanford on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. The Science Circle promotes science interest and career awareness through engaging lectures. Students learn directly from faculty, researchers, and post-doctoral scholars in the Stanford science community.
Preliminary applications for our 2015-16 Winter Quarter will become available on Monday, November 16. When applications become available, interested students can apply here:

Support College Success for Local Low-Income Students
Volunteer Opportunity: Become a Mentor to a Talented First-Generation College Student The Peninsula College Fund, which provides four-year college scholarships, 1-1 adult mentors, college and career success training, and summer internship support to low-income, first-generation college students, is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors to college students. Mentors offer advice, support, and role modeling to a student throughout the student's college career. Prospective mentors can learn more about this life-changing experience at http://www.peninsulacollegefund.org/what-we-do/mentoring/. This highly effective organization serves mid-peninsula high school students from Palo Alto to Redwood City.
