ABO Teams Funding for 2015-16

The Athletic Boosters Organization (ABO) has already provided over $46,000 in support of nearly every sport at Woodside High School for this school year. Every coach who made a request for new equipment or uniforms was allocated their needs for 2015-16.

This kind of financial support is only possible through your support of the ABO.  If have already joined the ABO or participated as a volunteer, thank you so much.  If you haven't, the ABO has a simple request - become a member.  Although the ABO could fulfill needs, there are still wants that require more resources.  If we all pitch in and join forces we can ensure our student-athletes will have the equipment and resources necessary to be successful on any level.

Cross Country News

Stanford Invitational Meet Fall 2015

For Cross Country, the season is going really well. While we had to adjust and work through some heat waves, runners are progressing well.

We have participated in 3 races (League Meet #1 at Westmoor HS, Stanford Invitational, and Artichoke Invitational at HMB HS).

As students are gaining in fitness and endurance, we are positioning ourselves for a run at PAL Championships in hopes of qualifying for CCS. Since only 7 runners are allowed on the Varsity squad (which can go on to CCS) for PAL Championships, there is a friendly competition for the 7 places. But as we train in Huddart Park, Stulsaft, and around Woodside, up and down hills, on the streets and trails, runners are encouraging each other and working as a team.

A couple of highlights in the year so far include the Varsity squads participating in the Stanford Invitational (one of the elite national races), all runners conquering Cougar Hill at Half Moon Bay's Artichoke Invitational, and the Varsity Girls placing 2nd in the Artichoke as a team.

Outside of running, our students continue to also put the effort in the classroom and being praised for their academics. We have held a Cross Country College Workshop, where the Seniors on the team spent a practice working on their college applications and working one-on-one with Woodside teachers on their personal statements, along with supporting each other in the college application process by helping with applications but also sharing their experiences visiting different campuses.

We look forward to finishing the season with the same commitment and hope to qualify both the girls and boys teams to CCS.

Girls Tennis News

Coach Stan Cartwright with the team

The Woodside girls' tennis team has been working hard and just started the second half of the season. It's been challenging, with a young team playing some of the best teams in the area. However, the team has been improving significantly and is looking forward to playing teams such as Half Moon Bay, Aragon and Hillsdale for a second time.

Notably, freshman Sophia Longo, playing number one singles, has won nearly all of her matches, including a close match against M-A, the top team.

Boys Water Polo

Moving up to the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division this year, after being undefeated in the Ocean Division last fall, the Woodside High School varsity boys water polo team, led by new coach Peter Davis, just secured a spot in the CCS tournament, with a record of 4-0 in league.

Giorgio Fatica

Sophomore Giorgio Fatica is leading the varsity team with 43 goals, along with teammates junior Max Untrecht with 39 goals, seniors Oliver Mancebo scoring 22 goals, senior Leo Franco-Munoz contributing 10 goals, junior Ryan Toulouse five, senior Alexander Ochoa four, seniors Ben Loewen and Brian Wheaton making each three goals, and senior Thomas Goldberg one goal.

Both the varsity and the JV team have participated in three tournaments each, Sequoia High School Invitational, Richison Classic Tournament, and the Aptos Tournament for varsity, Aptos Tournament, SHP JV Invitation Tournament, and Monta Vista Tournament for JV - click here to see the scoreboard.

Volleyball

Come out and support the volleyball teams this week! It's a big week with three significant games:
  1. Tuesday vs Terra Nova. They are in first place in our division. A win will put us in their spot, but will be a tough game.
  2. Wednesday vs. Sequoia. This is a rivalry game, but not a divisional game.  FREE PIZZA WILL BY SUPPLIED AT 5:45 just before game time. (until the pizza lasts).
  3. Thursday vs. So. City.
