SCHOOL NEWS
From Principal Burbank
The SEP (Senior Exhibition Project) has been a hallmark of the WHS senior year for over a decade, and this year, informed by feedback from student focus groups, there are changes. Social studies and English teachers worked last spring and over the summer to transform SEP to the ST: Senior Thesis. Come find out more from the teachers on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, 6:30 - 7:00 pm, MUR, right before the PTSA meeting that begins at 7:00 in the MUR conf rm.
Parking Lot
The student parking lot has too many competing interests: picking up, dropping off, u-turning, walking, backing up, merging -- and HONKING! To increase safety, we'll be trying some new configurations next week. Please be patient and follow the direction of staff in safety vests. Better to be safe than hurried.
September 2015-16 Parent/Student Directory
The Parent/Student directory is now available on SchoolLoop, in the right sidebar under "News."
Please note that the Parent/Student Directory will be updated monthly. The next parent/student directory release will be October 1st. If you need to update your information in the directory, please contact the guidance office at ext. 45329.
SAT News
Students can practice for the SAT test for free at the Khan Academy. https://www.khanacademy.org/sat. Remember all Juniors take the PSAT on October 14. What's the PSAT and what's new about the SAT? Come to a session about preparing for the new tests on Thursday, September 24, 7pm, at the Woodside HS PAC.

Parent Teacher Student Association
Our PTSA offers a broad variety of programs for students, teachers, and parents of Woodside High School. All PTSA programs are run entirely by Woodside High School parents and community members, working closely with Woodside High School staff.
We are dependent on volunteers and membership to continue supporting Woodside High School.
MEMBERSHIP
The most important step is to join the PTSA! Become a PTSA member:
eSCRIP
Safeway has dropped eScrip!
Safeway has dropped out of the eScrip program completely so the PTSA is losing at least $6,000 a year. Please consider making that extra donation to the general fund when you complete your membership form.
You can still register your debit/credit cards and grocery loyalty cards with eScrip and earn money for Woodside High School PTSA by shopping at participating merchants. Use Woodside High School PTSA eScrip Group ID - 137612196. Ask your family and friends to join too!
VOLUNTEER The PTSA is a 100% volunteer organization. Our events and programs rely solely upon parents who can help to organize and execute our events and programs. Contact us at whsptsa199@gmail.com for volunteer opportunities.
MEETINGS
Our meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 PM in the MUR conference room - all parents welcome!

Interested in being a mentor for a wildcat?
Want to make a difference in a teenagers life? Had a mentor that made an impact in your life? The Academy Programs at Woodside High School could use your help!
The Academy program is a small school environment which targets at-risk students. During their Junior year, students may request a Community Mentor that works with them on both academic & career goals. The students career interests are widespread from law enforcement and medicine to environmental planning and video game design.
I'm hoping that you, or someone that you know, might be able to participate in this program as a mentor. The commitment is approximately 2 hours per month, with most interactions via email and 4 face-to-face meetings over the course of the school year. The first meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 30th at 9am, and the program wraps up in early May.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Woodside High School, Multi-Use Room (MUR)
How can parents support their children toward healthy participation in sports to facilitate a lifelong healthy lifestyle and to reach their potential? The balance between sports, academics, arts, and downtime can be challenging as families work to find what experiences will best prepare their children for the future.
In this workshop, Steve Smith, PhD, psychologist and professor of clinical psychology in the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium of Palo Alto University, will review current research and provide guidelines for parents and coaches to consider for healthy sport participation.
Prior to joining the faculty at Palo Alto University, Dr. Smith served as the consulting psychologist for the Division I Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at UC Santa Barbara. He maintains a private practice, Sport Psychology and Research Center (www.sparccal.com), where he works with school, club, and professional teams and athletes of all ages from across the nation.

Drama Boosters
It's been several years since this opportunity was made available. Come join us for a PAC Open House. This Wednesday evening at 7pm, you will have an opportunity to get a first-hand look at the backstage activities that support and make the amazing productions of the Woodside Drama Department possible. See where all the sets are built, the actors are made-up, the vast collection of costumes we have accumulated, how concessions are managed, tickets are sold and where the lights and sound are managed. So much goes into each and every production. It's truly a team effort and quite a coordination.
Also this week, if your student wants to participate in the Woodside's Got Talent Show, remember auditions are this Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 in the PAC. Come prepared to share your talent. Sign-ups are in the front office. Break a Leg!
