New Parent Info Night
Thursday, August 12, 7 - 7:45 PM in the PAC
Principal Diane Burbank, Head Counselor Francisco Negri, Athletic Director Chuck Velschow presenting. Simultaneous Spanish translation available.
This event is for parents/guardians who are new to Woodside and would like to know what to expect at Arena Check-in as well as other aspects of Woodside High School.

2nd Annual Athletic Kick Off Event
August 13, 5 PM in the QUAD
Hosted BBQ by our Athletic Boosters, bring the family! Meet the coaches for 2015-16 Attend an in-service for parents and athletes by the 'Positive Coaching Alliance' RSVP with the number of guests to Athletic Director, Chuck Velschow at cvelschow@seq.org.

- Freshman: Saturday, August 15 from 9 AM to 12 PM

- Sophomores: Monday, August 16 from 4 to 6 PM

- Seniors: Monday, August 16 from 9 to 11 AM
All students are to attend Arena Check-In at their assigned day/time.
Students will turn in forms, take their school photo, pick up their ID card and class schedule and have the opportunity to submit the student order form for the PAL sticker and the yearbook, purchase clothes for PE, and buy spirit wear from the athletics boosters.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend with their student to sign up for volunteer opportunities, join the PTSA and the various booster organizations, as well as buy some spirit wear for themselves.
Student groups will also be available on Saturday to give new students a tour of the campus.

Big Read Summer 2015
All Woodside High School students are required to read ONE of the following books:
- Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
- The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
- The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown
You may purchase your own copy of a Big Read book, borrow it from the public library, or contact the WHS Library after August 3, 2015 to get a copy.
First Day of School - Tuesday, August 18
Students will be going to ALL of their scheduled classes on the first day of school. Students will follow the 0-7 bell schedule on this day.

Parents, Teachers, and Students Association (PTSA)
Our PTSA offers a broad variety of programs for students, teachers, and parents of Woodside High School. All PTSA programs are run entirely by Woodside High School parents and community members, working closely with Woodside High School staff.
We are dependent on volunteers and membership to continue supporting Woodside High School.
MEMBERSHIP
The most important step is to join the PTSA! Become a PTSA member:

VOLUNTEER The PTSA is a 100% volunteer organization. Our events and programs rely solely upon parents who can help to organize and execute our events and programs.
We need help at Arena Check-in in the computer room to assist families with their online registration, at the check-in, at the final station with Mr. Burbank to distribute schedule and planners, and at the PTSA table. Click on the button below to sign up!

Woodside High School Foundation (WHSF)
Thanks to YOU, the Woodside high School Foundation is already funding more than $460,00 for the upcoming 2014-15 year. The funds will be used for:
- Smaller classes in core, elective, and AP courses
- Additional class sections of world languages and electives
- DEN funding which provides after-school tutoring and homework help
- Revision of the Senior Exhibition Project curriculum to better align the capstone project with our seniors coursework
- Additional sections of introductory-level computing courses and funding for teacher training to create a three-year computer science pathway.
Our students and faculty rely on the Foundation to support Woodside's strong tradition of educational excellence for all. Check your mailbox for our annual report in September or go to www.whsfoundation.org to learn more about how you can help to provide a strong foundation for our students' success!

Athletic Booster Organization (ABO)
The role of the Woodside High School Athletic Boosters Organization (ABO) is to support ALL athletic programs at Woodside High School.
Your ABO dues and donations may be tax deductible as the Woodside Athletic Boosters Organization is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
You may pay your membership dues by check downloading the 2015-16 ABO membership form or online via PayPal here.
We hope to see you at
- Athletics Kick-off on Thursday, August 13 at 5 PM where you will be able to meet the coaches from all sports;
- Arena Check-In on Saturday, August 15 and Monday, August 17.
Please make sure to stop by at our membership table!

Drama Boosters
The WHS Drama Boosters supports and promotes all aspects of the performing arts program at Woodside High School including theater performance, stagecraft, and production management.
Remind your students that if they intend to be in the Talent Show or the Fall Production that there will be auditions for both in September. Dates, times, and locations will be posted in numerous locations around campus and updates will be provided in future PTA newsletters.
All productions, primarily the Fall play and Spring musical depend on parental support, both in volunteerism and donations. Please help support these fantastic productions and create your own amazing memories by helping to put them on.

Music Boosters
Your Woodside Music Program is tuning up, and are preparing to once again be the sound of Woodside!
Here are upcoming dates and events, please find us at Arena Check-in next Saturday and Monday if you have any questions:
- Monday, August 10 - Wednesday, August 12: Marching Band Camp from 8 am - noon, meet at the band room (Bring: your instrument, water bottle, tennis shoes, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and snack) Any member involved with the AS/AP Boot Camp or Athletics should check in to pick up instruments, music, and flip folders sometime during the band camp days. Camp is a program that allows our students to start to practice up on music, meet new friends, and start to march to the Woodside Beat.
- Friday, August 14: Band uniform fitting (Juniors & Seniors 8 -10am, Freshmen & Sophomores 9 - 11am) in the band room
- Friday, August 14, 1- 5 PM: Music Program Welcome Back Picnic for students at Red Morton Picnic Area 2 (near Valota/Roosevelt) ALL Music program students (orchestra and choir included) are invited! Food provided by the boosters, parents able to help cook or clean up please contact booster President Eric Nodine at evnodine@comcast.net
