SCHOOL NEWS
Good luck to WHS competitive cheer squad
The Cheer Squad is competing this weekend at USA Nationals in Anaheim! Principal Burbank wished them good luck with a Jamba Juice send off for Emily Orrego, Katie Forrest, Viviana Masulit, Kelsey Molina, Selena Seddon, Taylor Woods, Danielle Daniels, Bianca Thomas, Jade Jones, Cayley Castro, Abria Kepney, and Amber Goodall, coached by Jessica DiSantos.
From Principal Burbank For the last four years, parents have been invited to provide anonymous feedback using the MyVoice survey connected to our 8 Conditions of Student Success. The 15-minutes online survey can be taken on your smart phone or computer. Your feedback gives me valuable qualitative information about your experience as a parent on campus and about the education your student is experiencing. The year-to-year data to show what is improving, maintaining, or sinking is invaluable to me in setting priorities for campus. As an example, I've used your recent feedback to determine parent education topics and to increase the number of guidance information nights. Thank you for taking the time! -Principal Burbank PROM! Prom is May 2. Tickets are on sale April 6-17 only! View prom flyer here. |

"The Mask You Live In"
Documentary film from The Representation Project
Introduction by Steve Smith, PhD, Palo Alto University
Thursday, April 2, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Woodside High School, Performing Arts Center (PAC)
The Mask You Live In, a new documentary film premiering at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, asks the important question: Is American masculinity harming our boys, young men and society at large? Compared to girls, research shows that boys in the U.S. are more likely to be diagnosed with a behavior disorder, prescribed stimulant medications (for ADD/ADHD), fail out of school, binge drink, commit a violent crime, and/or take their own lives.
"We must challenge definitions of masculinity, model the change we want to see, then seek it in mentors and teachers who will help our boys stay true to themselves. The Mask You Live In is not just a film - it's a movement. This is just the beginning. We're all coming together in a beautiful way, and the time is now. Our boys don't need to suffer, and they don't need to live in pain."
- Jennifer Siebel Newsom Writer, Director, and Producer of "The Mask You Live In" and CEO of The Representation Project
Tickets are free, but advance registration is requested. Parents, high school students, faculty/staff and community members welcome!

SPORTS NEWS
Athlete of the Week - March 13
Varsity Athlete: Danielle Carle, Junior
Sport: Lacrosse
Coaches' Lens (Stacey Myers): "This is Danielle's third season on lacrosse and she has been and will continue to be an integral part to the team's offense. She was not only voted 'Most Valuable Attacker' in the league last season with an average of five goals per game, but is starting off even stronger with seven goals in our first league game and win over Carlmont. Danielle is a very talented lacrosse player that uses her speed and stick skills to out play other teams and players. Danielle is also a great leader on our team and we can't wait to see what else she can do this season!"
The Girls' Lacrosse team at Woodside is off to a strong start in 2015 based upon last Friday night's performance against Carlmont, a 14-7 league victory, the Wildcats first of the season. Read more about Danielle here.

DRAMA BOOSTERS NEWS
WHAT A SHOW! I hope you had the chance to come out, at least once, to the PAC over the last two weekends to see the Woodside Drama Department put on a fantastic rendition of "How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying". The cast put everything they have into 5 amazing performances that left us all laughing and smiling. Thanks, too, to all the backstage help in costumes, props, and sets, and not to mention pre-show efforts in tickets, concessions, and promotions. I couldn't be more proud of our cast and crew. AND of course, the production staff who must be called out by name: Director Barry Woodruff, Co-Producers, Kim Harvath and Karen Peterson, and Set Designer and Stage Manager Don Coluzzi. What an amazing team!
If you missed the play, you still have a chance to see a small bit of it at the Athletic Boosters' Fashion Show onApril 4th, so come on out and support Woodside High School Athletics and get motivated to come out to the Drama Department productions next year! See you at the Show!
