SCHOOL NEWS

Aspirations Day

On Thursday, your student participated in the last Aspirations Period of the year.  5th period classes selected one of the 8 Conditions of Student Success to represent their class and put themselves on display.  The entire student body of 1,800 came together in the old gym to post (literally or electronically) their aspirations, hopes, and dreams.   Then, we celebrated with music and ice cream sandwiches.  Check out more pics on #AspirationsWHS.  It was a great day to be a Woodside Wildcat!  -Principal Burbank

Wildcats in the news!

Twenty-four WHS frosh are taking this entrepreneurial elective on class.  And another 60 upperclassmen are involved in the after school and off campus support. It's exciting for WHS to be partnering with BUILD!  Check out the story: http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/03/06/the-excitement-of-learning-from-profit-and-loss/?_r=0

DONATE USING PAYPAL

If you haven't already donated to the Class of 2017's Safe & Sober Grad Night through PayPal, now's the time to do it!

If everyone donated $100 right now, we would meet our financial goal! It breaks down to $25 a year, so donate it all at once or donate a portion of it. It's up to you.

Use your PayPal account or just go to the website to easily pay with your credit or debit card. To donate, go to http://www.paypal.com, click the "Send" tab at the top, enter our email address: whsparents2017@gmail.com, the amount you want to send, and follow the prompts from there. Please note that a donation made via your bank goes farther than using a credit card, which gets a cut from the proceeds. You can always use the form in the donation letter that was recently mailed out. If you didn't receive the direct donation campaign letter, please email: whsparents2017@gmail.com

Have a great week!

WOODSIDE PARENT EDUCATION SERIES

"The Mask You Live In"
Documentary film from The Representation Project
Introduction by Steve Smith, PhD, Palo Alto University

Thursday, April 2, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Woodside High School, Performing Arts Center (PAC)

The Mask You Live In, a new documentary film premiering at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, asks the important question: Is American masculinity harming our boys, young men and society at large?

Compared to girls, research shows that boys in the U.S. are more likely to be diagnosed with a behavior disorder, prescribed stimulant medications (for ADD/ADHD), fail out of school, binge drink, commit a violent crime, and/or take their own lives.

Woodside Parent Education Series events are free of charge, sponsored by the WHS PTSA, the Sequoia Healthcare District, and the Sequoia Union High School District.

Simultaneous Spanish interpretation will be provided.

For more information, contact Charlene Margot, Parent Education Series, Founding Director, at cmargot@csmconsulting.net or 650-868-0590.

SUHSD PARENT EDUCATION MINI-SERIES

Teenage Risky Behaviors

"Distracted Driving Parent Workshop" with Impact Teen Drivers
(California Highway Patrol)

Thursday, March 12, 10:00 am - 12:00 noon
Sequoia Union High School District Office
Birch Room
480 James Avenue, Redwood City

Automobile collisions are the leading cause of death for our nation's teens. The overwhelming majority of these crashes are caused by inexperience or distractions, not "thrill-seeking" or deliberate risk-taking. Teens drivers are at the highest risk: the crash rate (per mile driven) for 16 years olds is four times that of adults.

In this workshop, you will learn about:
  • Strategies to keep your teens safe on the road
  • Graduated Drivers Licensing (GDL) laws
  • The Rules of the Road for teen drivers
  • How YOU can stop the  #1 killer of teens in America--reckless and distracted driving
Since 2007, Impact Teen Drivers has emerged as a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the pervasive yet 100% preventable crisis of "distracted driving." Impact's mission is to change the culture of teen driving, thereby saving lives in this and future generations of drivers.

Parent Education Series events are free and open to SUHSD parents, faculty/staff and community members. The Parent Education Mini-Series is sponsored by the Sequoia Healthcare District and the Sequoia Union High School District.
