Hello Woodside Family,

What a fun homecoming week: class competitions, dress-up days, and a great turn out for a nail-biter of a game on Friday.

There are some important happenings this week that parents should be aware of.  One, Winter sports packets are due Tuesday.  Your child can't play a winter sport if this isn't turned in on time.

Two, when I took my Senior child to visit colleges years ago, all the tour guides informed us that we should have started doing these tours Freshman or Sophomore year! It's NOT too early to start thinking about college. Woodside's annual  Freshman/Sophomore College Night is Wednesday at 7PM.

Brand new this year is Donation Day.  On Wednesday, look for Woodside Foundation members, students, and teachers outside during drop-off and pickup and turn in your donations to the Woodside Foundation and get your car magnet.  Take advantage of our dollar-for-dollar challange grant.

I would love to print pictures and news of Woodside students.  Send them in.

Happy Halloween!

Halloween
Many staff and students enjoy dressing up for Halloween. Please remind students that costumes must be school appropriate, no masks, and dress code is still enforced.

Mentoring Opportunity

The Academy Program is a small learning community made up of dedicated teachers working collaboratively.  During their junior year, students may request a Community Mentor that works with them on both academic & career goals.  We have spoken with all of the students and their career interests are widespread, ranging from chef and police officer to zoo keeper, and environmental sciences.

We are hoping that you, or someone that you know, might be able to participate in this program as a mentor.  The commitment is approximately two hours per month, with most interactions via email and four face-to-face meetings over the course of the school year.

The first meeting is scheduled for November 6, 9AM in the MUR, and the program ends in early May.

If you or a colleague have any questions, please contact Faith Velschow, Mentor Coordinator, via email at fvelschow@seq.org  or via phone at 650-591-7502.  You may go to the Academy websites to see more information:

SPORTS NEWS

Athletes of the Week - October 17

Varsity Athlete:  Mia "Ricky" Montalbano, Junior

Sport: Girls' Water Polo

Coaches' Lens (Head Coach-Laura Reynolds): "Mia has come into her own as a starting Varsity member.  One of our high scorers, her real strength is the passion she brings to our defense.  She crashes, stunts and steals.  She is an enigma to opposing players who don't expect the unstoppable attacks on ball.  She has developed into a quiet, intense team member who leads by example."

Underclassman Athlete:  Marcelous Chester-Riley

Sophomore - JV Football

Performance and Coaches' Lens (Head Coach-Tony Holmes): "Marcelous helped us take the win over Aragon by rushing for over 275 yards and more than 330 all purpose yards with a combined total of three touchdowns. Not only does he continue to show his dominance on the football field, his leadership and hard work has transferred over to many of the new incoming freshman."
