Hello Woodside Family,

The two big events this week are both brought to you from our Foundation. Tonight the Foundation will be stuffing envelopes.  On Thursday we will have the Kick-Off event for our Annual Auction.  Read more about both events in today's newsletterl.

The Update is currently sent every Monday morning, but we will switch to Sunday nights beginning next week.  Many of you have multiple email addresses in the system.  We have to pay for all the emails we use and store in our new system.  Please check your various emails and if you are receiving duplicates, use the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom so we have just one contact address for you.

If you have news to include in the Update, please email whsupdate@gmail.com

Thanks, Tamiko Verkler (parent volunteer)

 Class of 2017

One year down, three to go!  Can you believe how fast last year went?

Thanks to the families who helped out last year with our fundraising campaign, senior graduation brunch, and attended our first parent social last May!

The purpose of the Class of 2017 Parent group is to:

  • raise funds for the Safe & Sober Graduation night event  (ONGOING)
  • provide and serve Graduation refreshments in June (THIS YEAR)
  • sell concessions at football and basketball games (Junior year)
  • sell flowers/leis for graduation (Junior year)
  • run the Holiday Boutique (Senior year)

HELP YOUR STUDENT:  We started our Direct Donation Campaign last year to raise funds for the 2017 Safe and Sober Graduation night event, but still have quite a ways to go! We'd all love to avoid constant fundraisers over the next three years, and the Direct Donation Campaign allows 100% of your tax-deductible donation to go toward the Safe & Sober Graduation event for our kids.  To donate, email whsparents2017@gmail.com

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The Freshman/Sophomore Parent Groups will hold their first meeting on Tuesday, September 23.  The groups meet on the third Tuesday of the month in the staff room. Please join us to kick off the year!

STAY TUNED: Last year's parent social was a huge success, and it's a great way to meet other WHS parents!  We're planning our next parent social to be held in October. If you're interested in hosting or helping plan this great event, please email whsparents2017@gmail.com

SIGN UP:  If you have not been receiving our 2017 Parent Group emails, or if you are new to WHS with an incoming sophomore, please sign up by sending an email to whsparents2017@gmail.com

Here's to a GREAT year!

Upcoming Stanford in Redwood City Lecture

Mindset

with Professor Carol Dweck

"If you manage any people or if you are a parent...drop everything and read Mindset." - Guy Kawasaki

...or better yet, attend the free Stanford in Redwood City Speaker Series

Who: Carol Dweck, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist and author of the best-selling book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. She's been featured in The New Yorker, Time, and The Wall Street Journal, and has appeared on Today, 20/20, and Good Morning America.

What: A 1-hour talk on a truly groundbreaking idea-the power of mindset! Learn why praising brains and talent doesn't foster self-esteem or boost accomplishments. Discover how great CEOs, parents, teachers, and athletes succeed and how you can develop a growth mindset in yourself and others.

Why: With the right mindset you can motivate anyone-employees, students, peers, children, and even yourself-to reach personal, educational, and professional goals.

When: October 16, 2014, 5:30 - 7:00 pm

Where: Carrington Hall, Sequoia High School

1201 Brewster Avenue, Redwood City
