LEGISLATIVE NEWS
With the summer season coming to a close that means that the "Campaign Season" is coming into full swing!

September 1, 2015 marked the enacting date for most of the legislation passed during the meeting of the 84th legislature and it also means interim studies will be issued by the House and Senate soon.

This interim will bring a vast array of topics to be studied prior to the 85th legislative session and housing is likely to be on the list.  In order for the Texas Auctioneer Association to build towards successes for the next session we must be present and engaged during hearings, policy discussion and any rule writing that will be done over the next 18 months. The interim is our time to education our state leaders to the importance and magnitude of the auction business to the state of Texas. This week Lt. Governor Patrick issued a charge to the Business and Commerce Committee dealing with "Occupational Licensing". It directs the committee to review all occupations licensed under Texas law to determine the extent to which continued state regulation and licensure is required to protect public health and safety. Examine methods to ensure greater legislative oversight of new regulations, scope, and necessity of certain licenses and make recommendations for state licenses that should be repealed or transitioned to private-sector enforcement.

The Speaker will release the House interim studies in the next 30 days and this will give TAA an opportunity work with both the House and Senate to inform the members and staff of the importance of the auction industry. I look forward to working with all members of TAA to deliver our message to the Capitol!
