President's Message
Terry S. Mathias 2013-2014 NAIFA-West Virginia President
Welcome to 2014!
I hope that you have completed your business plan and have begun executing your strategy in order to have a successful 2014. During the holidays I read a book entitled "Living a Life of Significance" by Joe Jordan. For those of you who don't know who Joe is, he is a veteran financial services professional who speaks all over the world, including many different MDRT venues. Joe is a gifted communicator with a deep knowledge of insurance products.
The book is excellent, and I highly recommend that you read it. It will propel you to success in 2014. There are many sections of the book that I found extremely insightful and helpful, but one stands out above all the rest. I have quoted it below in its entirety because it spoke mightily to me and I hope you find it helpful as well.
Here's to a great year!
"Finally, you have permission to be confrontational with people because you are dealing with their most precious assets - their children and their legacy. If someone is disrespectful to you and treats you like a used car salesman, do you know what to tell them? You tell them this: What I do for a living is I protect the innocent when someone dies prematurely. I provide a worry-free retirement that people can't outlive. I protect their assets when they get sick. I provide a legacy when they die because I live a life of significance."

From The NAIFA Blog: NAIFA President John Nichols comments on Treasury's FIO Report
"NAIFA is pleased that the FIO has issued its long awaited insurance modernization report. "We are encouraged that the report endorses the passage of producer licensing reform known as the National Association of Registered Agents and Brokers Act -- legislation that NAIFA strongly supports and was overwhelmingly approved by the House in September. Furthermore, we agree that certain state-based marketplace reforms are crucial for consumers, such as all states adopting the NAIC's Suitability in Annuity Transactions Model Regulation and all states should join the IIPRC so that competitive products can be brought to market faster. "As producers, NAIFA members have a considerable amount of expertise and experience to bring to this ongoing debate. We look forward to working with the FIO and Congress as the ideas brought forth in this report are considered more fully by legislators and regulators." The NAIFA Blog provides timely analysis, context and commentary on important issues shaping the industry. The blog also is a place to present the role of the agent and the services they provide, and it will cover newsworthy happenings within the association. Learn more at www.naifablog.com. |
