Welcome to the Home Buyer's Club
From foreclosures to underwater mortgages, Michigan's economic woes are more than visible in the crippled housing industry, but 2013 might look a little different. For the first time in nearly six years, the housing market has started to show signs of vitality. Low interest rates offered on mortgages used to help stabilize the market are still available, but it is unknown for how long. Low interest rates combined with the lower-than-normal real estate prices, affordable financing opportunities, and down-payment assistance loans and grants have created a great opportunity for potential homebuyers to make their goal of homeownership a reality. If you or someone you know is interested in owning a home, check out one of the FREE homebuyer education workshops offered at the Center for Financial Health. We will provide you with the tools and resources to make homeownership a possibility for you and your family. The Center for Financial Health (the Center) has teamed up with the Ingham County Land Bank to celebrate homeowners and the changes that are happening in and around Lansing. For the last few years, the Center and the Land Bank have been in the business of creating homeowners-to help individuals and families build wealth, to help stabilize neighborhoods, and to grow a more vibrant community. But it is not enough to simply create homeowners. The Center-and anyone who has ever owned a home- knows how overwhelming it can be to find out that an appliance is broken or that a repair is needed. These are the times when homeowners need support.
The Home Buyer's Club was designed not only to get families and individuals into homes but to empower homeowners and give them the tools to be successful-whether it's a workshop on home repair or helping them maintain the financial progress they made in order to get into a home-the Center provides resources to ensure that our clients' experiences as homeowners are positive ones, and that the benefits from these newly-created homeowners continue for the homeowners, their families, and the community.

Club Member Achieves Homeownership
Amy recently achieved her dream. After enrolling in the Lansing Home Buyer Club and working with a counselor at the Center for Financial Health along with the Ingham County Land Bank, Amy, along with her 15 year-old son, is a homeowner. "I knew that I couldn't do it alone," Amy said. "Down payment assistance and MSHDA funds helped me get there."
Now, as a homeowner, Amy is still not alone. "I am determined to keep my new home nice." The Home Buyer's Club celebrates homeowners and their investment by providing continued support after all of the moving boxes have been unpacked. "There's so much to know. Everything is new to me. I used to Google it anytime my house needed something. Now, I am glad to have resources to help make sure that I am doing everything right."
