Spring Cleaning: Get your Financial House in Order
It's that time of year when we clean out our closets, spruce up the yard, and tidy up the household messes left over from spending a LONG Michigan winter indoors. But have you thought about tidying up your finances before the warm weather arrives? Here are a few things you can do for a fresh, clean financial start this spring
Review your credit report and clean up messes. If you have small balances that can be paid off, it may be a good time to get rid of them for good. Your credit report will be neater and easier to manage.
Do some shopping. Spring is a great time to add a colorful new accessory to your wardrobe or maybe you're planning a trip to the nursery to help you bring some color to your yard. These are great ideas to help get you in the mood for warmer weather, but it's also a good idea to revisit your insurance policies, and shop around to find the best rates for other services you use. The money you save could help you pay for that spring wardrobe or help you start saving for that summer vacation.
Clear out the clutter. Having financial accounts often means having a lot of paperwork around. Spring is a great time to go through the paper you have been saving for tax and record keeping purposes and get rid of what you don't need. Make sure to keep thorough records, but be sure to securely dispose of or destroy what you no longer need. If you really want to cut down on the clutter, consider switching to a paperless account where records are kept online. |
