A Free Dental Clinic for Bethany Parents and their Children
| | |
Dr. Tom Harle has had great success providing dental care to those in need locally at The Ottawa Mission and abroad in developing countries, and now he is bringing his time and talent to Bethany Hope Centre. By amassing funding, supplies and a host of volunteer dentists and hygienists, Dr. Harle is helping Bethany Hope Centre by providing an on-site, Portable Dental Clinic. This clinic will be shared with St. Mary's Home, St. Joe's Women's Centre and Youville Centre, in an effort to unite sister agencies and provide basic dental hygiene and education for women and children in need at these centres.
Services Offered: By focusing on disease prevention, oral health promotion, and education, we are empowering Bethany parents to take responsibility for their own and their children's oral health and to make sound decisions about their dental care. Basic dental services offered at the Portable Dental Clinic include:
Cleaning and polish;
Topical fluoride treatment;
Dental sealants; Clinical exams and periodontal assessment; Oral cancer screenings; Composite fillings with or without freezing; and Oral health education.
For an Appointment, please contact the front desk or Nurse Judy here at Bethany Hope Centre.

Mother's Day will soon be here
| | |

On Mother's Day, many people in Canada stop for a moment to express gratitude to their mothers - or the mother figures in
their lives - on Mother's Day for taking care of them and helping them with life's challenges.
Most everyone in Canada knows that Mother's Day takes place each year on the second Sunday in May. This year that date falls on Sunday, May 12th. However, the day before, Bethany Hope Centre will be doing something special for moms. What will Bethany be doing for moms? Well, that's a surprise - a pleasant one though. To participate, you need to sign up. Please let the front desk know that you'd like to be part of Bethany's Mother's Day celebration. When you do so, you will be given the start time for this event and answers to any questions you may have.

Thank you to a superb volunteer
| | |
On April 23rd, Bethany Hope Centre held a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon to honour the wonderful men and women who do so much to help deliver Bethany's many programs.
Among the volunteers honoured at this luncheon was a woman who has been a magnificent friend to Youville Centre's Learning Coach Program. Her name is Flo Crosbie. Not only is Flo a superb math tutor she's also unequalled in the generosity of her support of the many Learning Coach clients that she has helped over the years.
Thank you very much, Flo, for all your help. We're all that much better because you've been here to encourage and befriend us all.

Thanks for classing up the joint!
| | |
 Thanks to the anonymous donor who left this radio at Bethany's back door. Our clients like a bit of background music sometimes, and this radio lets us listen in style.
However, although we are enjoying this radio, just a quick reminder that Bethany Hope Centre no longer accepts donations.
Please drop off your used stuff at the nearest Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Mom! He looks like a pig!
| | |
Studious spends much of his time in the dark, behind a closed locked door. But when the weekdays hit, he's ready to strut his stuff. He is gaining popularity with the local youth, who can't sit still when they're in his presence.
Pictured here with Studious is Fan #1 - Izaaya.
There's just something about Studious.

The quest for literacy continues
| | |
Two months ago, Bethany Hope Centre clients enrolled in the Ontario Literacy Course. Lead by teacher Phil Wakeford, students worked long hours writing outlines, paragraphs, and then essays.
The program has been successful, and our clients are that much closer to earning their high school diplomas.
We are looking forward to offering the course again in the near future.

We depend on generous community support The wonderful support of the Ottawa community makes many of our programs and services at Youville possible. We would like to thank everyone for their encouragement and financial support.
