That's the way we feel about 2012 and the FMEC. We are smiling from ear to ear.
So what are we smiling about?
We had a "KAFM" regional meeting. Four hundred and forty seven faculty and residents and 265 medical students attended the meeting that focused on "Family Medicine: Transforming the Nation's Health One Family and One Community at a Time". Take 4 minutes to touch the energy of the meeting: 2012 Meeting in Cleveland, OH.
Led by Cleveland's Metrohealth Family Medicine, a host committee composed of 10 Family Medicine academic organizations and the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers worked collaboratively to plan and to fundraise in support of the meeting. What a team! Cleveland and Ohio "rocks". Listen to Carl Tyler, MD as he speaks of how the meeting has grown.
We're smiling because the FMEC Innovators Network held its fourth annual meeting. We continue to find Family Medicine innovators who are creating the groundwork for the future health care system. Listen to Alan Chip Teel, MD (creator of Elder Power) as he talks about the value of the event.
The FMEC IMPLICIT Network brings plenty of smiles to faculty, nurses, residents and staff at more than 20 Family Medicine Residency programs and 2 community health centers. The network is reducing the rates of low birth weight and premature births for thousands of babies. In addition, the network is producing grants and academic publications. Read More
The FMEC Super Utilizer Learning Community has grown to include 10 Family Medicine Residency programs. Following in the footsteps of Jeffrey Brenner, MD, these early adopters are redesigning the health care delivery system in their respective communities. In addition to improving the care delivered to patients with complex needs, the Learning Community members are growing their financial support (some at the 7 digit level). Read More
The FMEC FACTS Collaborative Project is planning to develop curriculum resources and faculty development services that will improve the breadth and depth of the women's health curriculum in Family Medicine Residency programs. Read More
We also have a very broad smile because we believe imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and we do feel flattered by the founding of the Family Medicine - Midwest Foundation, Inc. Family Medicine Midwest held its inaugural meeting in Chicago, IL in October 2012 with faculty, residents and students from 12 north central states in attendance. We're proud to have played a role in the emergence of another regional Family Medicine organization. Watch 2012 FMM VIdeo
There is plenty more to smile about. In fact, we could fill this newsletter to overflowing with all that's happened in 2012. So I'll finish by saying... 2013 ... bring it on!
