Rear Admiral Leendert "Len" Hering Sr. USN, (retired), is a prominent military and civilian sustainability leader with a broad background in energy and environmental issues. His passion in sustainability is educating people on the dangers the future holds without taking responsible actions to secure the nation's energy independence and to preserve water, air quality and other resources. While in the Navy, Hering's efforts included everything from renewable energy to responsible water use and conservation. He built a team recognized throughout the Department of Defense as the best in environmental protection and sustainable innovation. Hering instigated wind, thermal, photovoltaic, conversion technology and alternative fuel use at all levels in Navy facilities. President Bush awarded Hering a 2005 Presidential Award for Leadership in Federal Energy Management in recognition of efforts reducing oil spills and for recycling. In 2009, Hering joined the University of San Diego, where as vice president for business services and administration he initiated numerous sustainable measures on the campus.Today, Hering serves as the Executive Director of the California Center for Sustainable Energy. The California Center for Sustainable Energy™ (CCSE) provides people with information, incentives and opportunities to help make these choices easier. We work with policy makers, public agencies, local governments, utilities, business and civic leaders and individuals to transform California's energy marketplace and beyond.
Philip Sheehy, PhD, is a Senior Technical Specialist at ICF International. His work is focused on the regulatory, technical, and economic drivers for conventional and alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies. Dr. Sheehy has developed significant breadth in the transportation sector, with experience including, but not limited to, biofuel production validation and verification, technical assessments of fuels and vehicles, infrastructure assessments, life cycle analyses of the GHG impacts of transportation fuels, and quantifying the air quality impacts of vehicles in the light-duty and heavy-duty sectors. Dr. Sheehy leads a team of analysts that provide a range of technical support services to clients related to California's LCFS program. He also helped develop ICF's QAP to help validate and verify biofuel production under the EPA's RFS2. Philip received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his BA in Physics and Chemistry from Kalamazoo College.
Joe Jobe is the Chief Executive Officer for the National Biodiesel Board (NBB). The NBB is the national trade association representing the biodiesel industry as the coordinating body for biodiesel research and development in the US. Its members include feedstock producers and processors, soybean commodity boards, biodiesel suppliers, and fuel marketers and distributors.
Joe has been with the NBB since 1997, and has served as CEO since January 1999. Joe's duties included serving as the principle investigator for the $2.2 million biodiesel health effects testing program.
Joe became interested in agricultural, environmental, and energy issues growing up on a farm in central Missouri. Prior to working for the NBB, Joe was a fraud investigator for the Missouri Attorney
Anne Steckel is the Vice President of Federal Affairs for the National Biodiesel Board. Anne runs the Washington D.C. office, spearheading federal regulatory efforts. She previously served as chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson of California, a leading member of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. With nearly 15 years of experience in Washington, Anne has overseen legislative issues for several members of Congress, including U.S. Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin of Illinois; directed government relations at the American Farm Bureau Federation; and directed government affairs at Growth Energy, a renewable fuels trade group
