Product Information on RegOŽ LP-Gas Regulator Storage and Reuse
|
A current competitive regulator manufacturer's Limited Warranty states, "does not warrant any product or part that has been altered, accidentally damaged, disassembled, modified, misused, neglected, not properly maintained or installed, or not kept in continuous service after installation."
RegO continues to warrant their Used regulators that HAVE been removed from service and are going to be reinstalled in the future. They have published Product Information for RegO LP-Gas Regulator Storage and Reuse. It is recommended to follow these guidelines to preserve your warranty for RegO regulators you remove from active service and intend on reinstalling in the future.
Excerpts of best practices are shown below from the product information for the Storage of Used RegO regulators that have been removed from service and for Reinstalling Used RegO Regulators.
For Storage of Used RegO Regulators that have bee
n removed from service and are going to be reinstalled in the future, it is best to:
- Store in protective packing (such as a plastic bag) cover the inlet and outlet with plugs, or cover with protective tape
- Store in clean dry area free from corrosive atmospheres of salt air or chemical pollution.
- Keep Bonnet cap and vent screen in place to prevent the entrance of water, bugs, dirt etc. Do not store or reinstall the regulator if the vent screen and/or bonnet cap were not in place when the regulator was removed from service.
- Keep away from electrical equipment.
- Store away from insects and rodents that can cause damage to bonnet cap, vent screen or diaphragm and seat discs.
- Record the date that it was removed from service. The regulator should be re-installed as soon as practical.
- First stage and twin stage regulators installed on ASME/DOT containers (under cover and/or vent downward) may be left connected to the pigtail and service valve, provided the service valve is off, and the regulator outlet is capped or covered.
For Reinstalling Used RegO Regulators, it is best to:
- Inspect regulator per recommendations found in the most recent version of the RegO L-500 and L-102 catalogs this includes the body/bonnet and springs for any signs of corrosion or other damage to the regulator.
- Check date code (date of MFG) for age of regulator - the recommended service life of RegO regulators manufactured after 1995 is 25 years (except single stage which is 15 years).
- Verify that the vent screen is in place and clear.
- Install regulator(s) in conformance with NFPA Pamphlets 54 and 58, and all other applicable codes and regulations.
- Install new copper pigtail on first stage and integral twin stage regulator(s) if the regulator has been removed.
- Install with vents openings pointed down or under protective cover so their operation will not be affected by the elements (freezing rain, sleet, snow, ice, mud or debris).
- Perform system pressure/leak test including the regulator (s) per NFPA 54 and NFPA 58.
- Test regulator for proper lock-up and flow pressure.
- Make sure the bonnet cap is hand tightened securely.
The warranty period of RegO regulators is 10 years, twice the limited warranty of some competitors.
In its continuing quest for safety, REGOŽ publishes a series of bulletins explaining the hazards associated with the use, misuse, and aging of LP-Gas valves and regulators. It is hoped that these factual bulletins will make clear to LP-Gas managers and service personnel, that the utmost care and attention must be used in the installation, inspection, and maintenance of these products, or problems could occur which would result in injuries and property damage. This document is not intended to conflict with federal, state, or local ordinances or regulations. These should be observed at all times.

WHAT TO DO AFTER THE FLOOD
Propane Regulators:
Damage to regulators and controls is a significant problem resulting from flooding. NPGA recommends a complete inspection of the entire system by qualified propane service technicians because water damage to propane equipment and appliances is not always readily apparent. Water and debris can find their way inside regulators and controls, causing potential safety issues.
WARNING
AFTER A FLOOD, qualified service technicians need to replace the regulator and/or pressure relief valves if there are signs of water, dirt, debris, or corrosion. Regulator manufacturers recommend replacing all regulators that have been submerged under water. Water from floods can carry chemicals and other contaminants that will attack the components: including the diaphragm, seat disc and lever assembly.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO MODIFY OR REPAIR VALVES, REGULATORS, OR OTHER APPLIANCE PARTS.

TECH Topic!
How often do you run across a situation in the field that gets you scratching your head in wonder? Usually not that often, but occasionally a challenge will arise where everything looks OK, but clearly is not performing correctly. When this occurs you have to back up and view the whole picture and question simple logic and review the manuals.
This picture shows a sliding vane pump with suction and discharge arrows cast into the casting of the pump showing suction on the left and discharge on the right. Also, there is a rotation decal with inlet and outlet printed on it affixed on top of the pump side flange.
What doesn't stand out very clearly is the rotation decal shows the arrow pointing from left-to-right has the outlet label on the Left of the decal and the Inlet label shown on Right side of the decal, opposite of what it should be.
In this case the electrician wired the motor in the direction of the arrow on the decal that was installed pointing in the wrong direction. Most Blackmer pumps are designed to run/rotate in a clockwise rotation when looking from the motor side of the pump. The arrow was installed showing a counter-clockwise direction.
When the GEC representative showed up, he viewed the discharge pressure gauge and it showed a suction on the discharge gauge; which pointed to reversed rotation. Upon reversing the three phase wiring the pump rotation was corrected and everything performed satisfactorily. Next the decal was removed and re-installed in the correct direction.

Young Entrepreneur
Robert, who was 6 years old, was looking at the red ripe tomatoes growing in Farmer White's garden. 'I'll give you my two pennies for that tomato,' said Robert pointing to a beautiful, large, ripe fruit hanging on the vine.
'No, I can't do that,' replied Farmer White, 'I can get a dime for a tomato like that one.'
So Robert pointed to a smaller green tomato, 'Will you take two pennies for that one?' 'Oh, yes,' answered the farmer, 'I'll give you that one for two cents.'
'OK,' said Robert smiling, sealing the deal by putting the coins in the Farmer White's hand, 'I'll collect it in a week's time.'
Beware of the Parrot
A postman in Portchester known as 'Chippenham George' [because of his West Country accent] was working on a new round when he arrived at a garden gate which had a notice that read: 'Beware of the parrot' .
He looked into the garden and, sure enough, there was a parrot sitting on its perch. George chuckled to himself at the sign and the parrot there on its perch looking harmless and walked brazenly up the garden path. Halfway to the front door George heard, to his dismay and horror, the parrot shriek, 'Seize him Rover, seize him.'
