"Tough Winter! Do You Need to Expand STORAGE Capacity?"

Gas Equipment Company can help you design an upgrade to your storage!

Since 2001, NFPA 58 has required safety upgrades of bulk storage tanks that are retroactive. The 2001 edition NFPA 58, section 2.3.3.2 (b) (2) c., states "Containers equipped with a positive shutoff valve that is located as close to the container as is practical in combination with an excess flow valve and retrofitted by July 1, 2011, with one of the following:"

1. An internal valve equipped for remote closure and automatic shutoff using thermal (fire) actuation.

2. An emergency shutoff valve equipped for remote closure and automatic shutoff using thermal (fire) actuation and installed in the line downstream as close as practical to the existing positive shutoff valve.

In addition, the new NFPA 58 (2014 edition) has added additional FACILITY HOSE requirements. Section 6.19.2.6(3)* requires a bulk plant to be equipped with an emergency discharge control system that provides a means to shut down the flow of LP-Gas caused by the complete separation of the facility hose wiSH Logothin 20 seconds and without the need for human intervention.

The Smart-Hose facility hose meets this regulatory requirement.

Contact one of our branches or your GEC Sales Representative to conduct an on-site review for the best solution to increasing bulk storage capacity for your operation!

RegO Field Advisory

A3217FPARegO RWB

Correct Installation of the Clevis Lock Nut on A3217FPA

RegO recently received a report of an A3217FPA air brake style pneumatic actuator installed on an A3217 Series 3" flanged internal valve where the clevis lock nut had NOT been installed correctly on the air chamber stem which connects to the internal valve. This incorrect installation allowed the clevis nut to hang up on the mounting bracket where the stem passes through the center of the bracket; preventing 100% shutoff when the actuator was cycled to the closed position and allowed leakage of propane through the valve. The clevis lock nut is designed to lock the clevis in place after the correct adjustment is made when the actuator is initially installed on the valve; this information is covered in the installation instructions.

Corrective Action:

Inspect the clevis lock nut on the A3217FPA actuator to insure it is securely engaged against the clevis; if you find the clevis lock nut is loose or out of position tighten it securely against the clevis as shown below.

Should you have any questions contact one of our regional branch offices or your sales representative.

  Laughing      Joke of the Month

Two men were walking through the woods and came upon a big black, deep hole. One man picked up a rock and tossed it into the hole and stood listening for the rock to hit bottom. There was no sound.
He turned to the other guy and said "that must be a deep hole...let's throw a bigger rock in there and listen for it to hit bottom." The men found a bigger rock and both picked it up and lugged it to the hole and dropped it in. They listened for some time and never heard a sound. Again, they agreed that this must be one deep hole and maybe they should throw something even bigger into it.

One man spotted a rail-road tie nearby. They picked up the tie, grunting and groaning, and lugged it to the hole. They tossed it in. No sound. All of a sudden, a goat came flying out of the woods, running like the wind, and flew past the men and jumped straight into the hole. The men were amazed.
About that time, an old hayseed farmer came out of the woods and asked the men if they had seen a goat. One man told the farmer of the incredible incident they had just witnessed...they had just seen this goat fly out of the woods and run and leap into the big hole. The man asked the farmer if this could have been his goat.

The old farmer said "naw, that can't be my goat...he was chained to a railroad tie."
