NFPA 58, 2014 Edition Will Contain Regulation Changes Affecting:
1) Underground Piping
And
2) Bulk Plants with Permanently Mounted Transfer Hoses

The 2014 edition of NFPA 58 was released in early September and incorporates some rule changes that will affect two major types of installations:
(1) Underground Steel Piping, and
(2) Bulk Plants with Permanently Mounted Transfer Hoses.
(1) Cathodic protection of piping is one of the changes in the new edition of NFPA 58 that will have an impact on new propane facilities being built. The new standard states that underground steel piping larger than 1 inch nominal ID must be protected by a cathodic protection system. Previously, piping only had to be coated for protection against corrosion.
Cathodic protection is optional for piping 1 inch and smaller. The code has not changed for aboveground piping, which must be constructed of corrosion-resistant materials or must be painted or otherwise protected.
It is recommended in an effort to extend the life of the cathodic protection (anodes) to use di-electric unions to isolate the underground portion of piping from the aboveground portions.
(2) Another new rule change affects TRANSFER HOSES permanently installed to unload product from cargo tank motor vehicles (CTMV) in non-metered service into a bulk plant or industrial plant. The facility hose section in the new edition has added a definition for facility hose as "a hose....permanently installed for the purpose of unloading product from CTMVs in non-metered service into a bulk plant or industrial plant" and now states that "facility hose or the facility shall be equipped with an emergency discharge control system that will shut down the flow of LP-gas caused by complete separation of the facility hose within 20 seconds without the need for human intervention." The new regulation mirrors the U. S. Department of Transportation regulations for hose installed on some cargo tank motor vehicles.
The Smart-Hose safety hose has been the Solution of choice for meeting the DOT regulations and is now the Economical choice for complying with the new NFPA 58 regulations for bulk storage plants.

What's Wrong with this Picture?
It happens to us All, at some time!

This brand new valve leaked immediately after pressure was applied to the system. Can you spot why?
This same issue occasionally occurs with high pressure regulators that have the same size inlet and outlet. Which is why either there is a directional arrow or each port is labeled inlet & outlet.

YES, that is the flow directional arrow pointed the wrong way for this quick-acting globe valve. The supply hose should be installed on the supply side of the arrow and the fill nozzle adapter should be on the discharge side of the arrow. They are backwards which has the product pushing the seat assembly open and allowing product to discharge out the inlet.
Don't be in too big of a hurry when assembling globe valves and regulators; be sure and insure you are installing them in the correct configuration.
IT HAPPENS TO ALL OF US, AT SOME TIME!

Improvements to RegO 7901T-50 Repair Kit

RegO has advised improvements to the 7901 Series Quick-Acting Valves have been completed. The 7901T-80 Repair Kit for the 7901 Series is now obsolete.

Changes made included incorporating a double O-ring seal as part of the stem assembly. In doing this, the new 7901T-50 Repair Kit now consists of a complete bonnet assembly (see Figure 1) to provide a smooth leak free operation.
The NEW 7901T-50 Kit contains the complete bonnet assembly, which includes the Bonnet Assembly, Lever, and Gasket.

SAFETY NOTICE
NH3 Tank Valves containing Aluminum
|
Recently a manufacturer (other than RegO) has published a safety bulletin for NH3 TANK VALVES CONTAINING ALUMINIUM. If a valve with an aluminum excess flow assembly has been in the past, is currently or could be in the future in contact with N-SERVE immediate action is required. The action required is to remove the aluminum excess flow assembly and replace with a steel excess flow assembly. The following valve part numbers contain aluminum excess flow assemblies: A480-45, A480-60, A480-60-H, A481-45, A481-60, A482-45, A482-60, A484-45, A484-60, A486-45, A500-45, A500-60, A501B, A502-45, A502-60, A503B, A504-45, A504-60 and A505B.
Failure to take this action could lead to corrosion of the aluminum components causing the valve not to function and close even though a catastrophic system failure of equipment releasing NH3 is occurring. The NH3 release could cause death, personal injury or property damage. Replacement excess flow assembly gallons per minute (gpm) must be appropriate for the application.
Gas Equipment Company as a RegO Master Distributor provides RegO NH3 valves for these applications.
RegO NH3 products with the following part numbers DO NOT contain any aluminum components. The RegO NH3 valves listed below use 12L14 Cad plated steel or stainless for springs, stems & seats. And, are an exceptional replacement for any of the described valves above using aluminum components.
A8016DBC
A8016DP
A8017D series
A8020D
A8018DP
If you are concerned you may have NH3 valves containing aluminum; contact your equipment supplier to inquire about which valves are affected.
(ed note: the affected valves are not manufactured by RegO)

HOW TO Set/Reset the Time on an LCR2

It's that time of year again; Daylight Savings Time change and Time to Adjust your Clocks! Including the ones on your mobile computing systems and meters.
We are providing this instruction sheet for you to print and save for the next time change in the spring. (This is helpful during springing forward and falling back for Daylight Savings Time)
First, we must ask the following questions to help you better assess what equipment application you have.
1- Do you have an LCR2 register head? 2- Does it operate in "Pump and Print" mode? (LCR2 only, no other
accessories) 3- Do you have a lap-pad? 4- Do you use our EZCOUNT handheld unit? 5- Do you use our DMS system? 6- If you use DMS, do you also have a GPS unit with it?
Once you know what you have, proceed to the corresponding section below.
LCR2 - PUMP & PRINT
1- Turn the red selector knob to Print. 2- Press the Select arrow 4 times. Do you see the current time on-screen? If you do, proceed to step 3. If not, you should see a screen that says "P00000". Press the Select arrow to move the cursor past all the numbers, at which point you will see the time. 3- Enter the current time (remember that LCR2 uses 24-hour time), by using the Select and Increase buttons. 4- After the time is entered, you can either use the Select arrow to move all the way to the end of the time and back to the first screen, or simply turn the selector back to Stop. 5- You are done.
LCR2 - WITH LAP-PAD
1- Make sure the lap-pad is properly connected and on. 2- Using the lap-pad, arrow over to Security and press Enter. 3- Check to see if the "Security" field is set to "Unlocked". If it is not, arrow over to "Security", press Enter to go to the bottom line, and use the arrow keys to change "Locked" to "Unlocked". Press Enter to go back to the top line. 4- Press the M1 button. 5- Arrow over to General Settings. 6- Arrow over to "Time", and press Enter to drop to the bottom line. 7- Key in the appropriate time in HHMMSS format. Remember that the LCR2 uses 24-hour time. Press Enter to go back to the top line. 8- Press the M1 button. 9- You are done.
LCR2 WITH EZCOUNT HANDHELD
Contact your outside sales rep or the Dallas branch at 800-821-1829 for more help setting the time on our EZCOUNT handheld.
LCR2 WITH DMS
1- On any screen on the DMS lap-pad, press the ALT and ESC buttons at the same time. 2- This screen will say "DMS Application List" at the top. From here, press the F1 key (Util). 3- Arrow down to the "DMS Time" setting and press Enter. You must enter the time in the format of HH.MM.SS, and you must use periods to separate the hours from the minutes from the seconds. Remember that the LCR2 uses 24-hour time. Press Enter when done. 4- Press the F5 button (Exit). 5- At the "DMS Application List", arrow to "EZCOUNT" and press Enter. 6- You are done.
LCR2 WITH DMS & GPS
1- Go to the office computer you use to load and unload DMS sticks. 2- Click on EZ-ENTER button. 3- Click on "TruckDefs" tab to the left. 4- Scroll over to the "GMT Offset" field. 5- Change the "GMT Offset" field by adding +1 hour to the current negative number (see below for appropriate times). 6- Click Save, then exit. 7- You are done.
NOTES: EST is -5 GMT in the fall, and -4 GMT in spring. CST is -6 GMT in the fall, and -5 GMT in spring. MST is -7 GMT in the fall, and -6 GMT in spring.

Here's another trick of Doctor Dementia to test and maintain your brain function .....I've seen these before using only letters out of order (see above), but this is the first example I've seen with numbers. If you can read this OUT LOUD, you have a strong mind, and better than that, Alzheimer's is a long way down the road before it gets anywhere near you.
