Common NFPA Rule Violation

Protection of System Piping fromRegO RWB Debris

Effective: July 1, 2011

We have seen a growing trend with Authorities Having Jurisdiction in issuing a number of citations/violations for NFPA 58, Section 6.18.2.5, requiring protection of storage tank system piping from debris.  The violations are being issued for storage facilities that have not retrofitted or added screens or strainers to prevent debris from entering the storage system piping.

OF IMPORTANCE is with the ADOPTION of either THE 2008 or 2011 editions by your AHJ; EXISTING INSTALLATIONS ARE NOT GRANDFATHERED AND ALL INSTALLATIONS MUST COMPLY with this regulation ON OR BEFORE JULY 1, 2011.

RegO manufactures both the 5769H Male ACME Coupling with Screen3195S Female ACME Coupling with Screen.

These two ACME couplings are the SOLUTIONS for Complying with Section 6.18.2.5 of NFPA 58 (2008 & 2011).

Steel A3195S

Both the RegO 5769H male ACME coupling and 3195S Female ACME coupling DO incorporate a screen in the coupling to meet the requirements of the section 6.18.2.5 rule.  There is an "A" version, that is a steel ACME version for anhydrous ammonia as opposed to the standard brass ACME version (place the prefix "A" in front of the standard part number for a steel version for NH3).

On dedicated transport unloading bulkheads or the dedicated transport riser of a three-hole bulkhead with no hoses you can use the RegO 5769H male ACME coupling to comply with the rule. It is a male 3-1/4" ACME by 2" MNPT coupling incorporating a screen and can be threaded into a valve or fitting.

ME130A
Protective Screen in Coupling

The simple and quick compliance solution for two-hole bulkheads with hoses or transport unloading risers with existing hoses is the use of the RegO 3195S female ACME coupling.  It is a female 3-1/4" ACME x 2" MNPT coupling incorporating a screen to comply with the rule and can be threaded directly into the transfer hose cutoff valve. This solution allows you to immediately inspect the screen at disconnection for captured foreign material after unloading from a transport.

NEW PRODUCT:
Parafour: Eco-Air-IVS

The Economical, Ecological & Reliable Storage Pneumatic Solution

EcoAir

Parafour manufactures an economical, ecological and reliable storage pneumatic system for the operation of pneumatic actuators for internal valves and ESV's,

This new product, the Eco-Air-IVS 100 is designed to provide clean, reliable compressed air, which is more economical than nitrogen.  Packaged in a compact, robust ZERO-MAINTENANCE solution, with a self-diagnostics and preset for the best actuator operation, the Eco-Air-IVS, is the solution!  The Eco-Air-IVS Is not just an air compressor.  Sure, you can buy a cheap discount home garage grade air compressor with a 3-5 gallon tank for less than $300.00.  But will it last?  Without daily water draining, oil level maintenance, air filtration and other inconvenient and costly maintenance, it simply won't last.  Unmaintained standard air compressors will fail in as little as 6 months!  The Eco-Air-IVS is a purpose designed and built unit, specifically for the rigors of propane internal valve operation.

If you are still using tank vapor to actuate your internal valves and if you are complaining about mysterious "lost gallons"; then the Eco-Air is for you.  Have you experienced failed regulators and pressure gauges from liquid condensing in the vapor lines?  Or perhaps in cold weather, the low tank vapor pressure fails to fully open internal valves?  It is not just an inconvenience and a high operating cost.  Each 100 cycles of internal valve actuation results in not only the cost of one gallon of propane, but also the emissions of more than 356 cubic feet of propane hydrocarbon emissions!  It is not only costing you as much as $600 per year in "Lost Gallons", but pending regulations in many states may make it illegal to release these harmful emissions.  Save money, improve reliability and help keep the Clean Choice in alternative fuels CLEAN, with the Eco-Air-IVS!

The Eco-Air-IVS is assembled with the highest quality components:

  • Durable, long life military grade compressor, oil free and maintenance free, rated for 100% run time duty cycle
  • Vertical 2 gallon reservoir, with self-drain
  • Heavy duty regulator and filter with auto-drain
  • No mechanical pressure control and unloading valve to fail
  • Computerized control with high durability PLC and pressure sensors
  • Gauges for tank and regulator pressure
  • LED operating and warning condition / Alarm indicators
  • High quality NEMA 4/12 enclosure with durable finish and cooling vents
  • Continues to operate with "Small Leak Detection" after warning light
  • Automatic shut-down with "Major Leak Detection" and flashing warning indicator

Going Green
Committed to Improving Environmental Safety

The following is a customer notice from Rochester Gauges

To: Our Valued Rochester Gauges Customers

Elimination of Lead in the Rochester Gauges Dallas facility

This notice is to inform you that Rochester will be ceasing the use of lead counterbalances in various liquid level gauges. All gauges currently employing lead will instead use a plated steel counterbalance. This is being done to better conform to various environmental standards and to improve workplace safety. For more than 90% of the gauges, there will be no increase in cost.

The gauges will have slightly different forms in as much as the steel counterbalances are shaped slightly differently from the current ones of lead. However, there is no effective change to fit or function.

The transition will begin in 3rd Quarter 2013 and take place gradually through the next several months.

Thank you for your continued patronage of Rochester Gauges and we look forward to having a cleaner and safer future with you.
