The GEC YouTube channel will be used to post useful how-to, introductory, product announcements, and training videos.

In April we are posting our very first video introducing our NEWEST Base Engineering offering, designed for both NH3 Anhydrous Ammonia and LPG storage locations.  Additional videos will be posted including videos from our premier manufacturers.

The first video features GEC & Base Engineering introducing the Base E-Stop Emergency Control System for bulk plant operations.

Base engineering's emergency shutdown system incorporates a wireless E-stop(s) with handheld remote(s) which can completely shut down the transfer functions of a bulk plant, wirelessly.

This gives owners, employees and emergency personnel the ability to shut down an entire bulk plant system remotely, without having to put themselves or others in the dangers of an un-controlled release.

  Base Sys

The wireless hand held remote and the e-stop send a signal to a receiver control unit mounted nearby, normally adjacent to the main power supply. This unit closes a solenoid valve installed in the plants pneumatic system that releases pressure closing all valves in the system.

By having the Base Engineering system in place, any uncontrolled release due to a pull-away, hose rupture or other incident can be stopped quickly, without having to send emergency personnel into a dangerous situation.  The system can also control relays that power the pumping system to further reduce damage to the facility.  The E-stop system allows for as many mushroom buttons and hand held units as the company feels is required for key personnel in the daily operations.

By using REGO internal valves, ESV's and pneumatic controls at key locations in your plant piping, a catastrophic release can be controlled and stopped in an emergency.

One system,
Multiple transmitters,
Complete control,
Wirelessly!

IMPORTANT Technical FIELD Alert!
Autogas Liquid Filter Assemblies
Do NOT use filters containing bypass valves

Marketers that have been installing Autogas dispensers with older tanks from vapor applications are finding they many contain foreign material, heavy oils, and other contaminants that impact the new state-of-the-art liquid injection vehicle fuel systems.  In an effort to prevent those contaminants from entering the vehicle fuel's systems, marketers are using various different products for filtering the product before introducing it into the vehicle fuel tank.

Gas Equipment Company offers the Blue Moon line of Autogas filters which are designed to filter product 40 microns down to 5 microns with a 99.5% efficiency.

But some companies are venturing outside proven products and are installing filters that incorporate an internal bypass valve.

With those filters, the bypass valve opens when the pressure exceeds the bypass valve set pressure.  The bypass valve under ideal conditions should never open, but in most instances will, depending on the differential pressure setting across the filter.  When it opens, the fuel bypasses the filter and goes on through to the vehicle tank, obviously unfiltered.  It is designed as a safety valve; however, in real operation, it opens often.

So if you are using filters that incorporate internal bypass valves; you may still be operating as if you had no filtration.

BLUE MOON Filters for Autogas applications do not incorporate an internal bypass valve!

FST63
FST-63

Most filtration of propane Autogas assumes that the fuel is clean and free of water, particulates, heavy oils, and harmful chemicals such a sulfur, when in fact this may not be true.  Refinery practices, inadequate filtration, holding tanks and delivery trucks all add to the problem. The Blue Moon Multi-stage Filtration system solves this issue.

FST634
FST-634

Blue Moon manufactures two popular products for Autogas applications.  One is a disposable filter (FST-63) assembly and the other is designed for hard piping installation (FST-634) and incorporates a replaceable

RF6
RF-6

filter element (RF-6) that can be removed without disturbing the piping.

Both have 1 inch NPT female openings.  The FST-634 must be installed in the horizontal piping with the element in a vertical position.  The FST-63 can be installed in any direction, but should not be on the nozzle or moveable hose area.  Since it must be removed for replacement, you should design the piping to incorporate a union and two shut-off valves with a vent valve to facilitate removal and replacement when needed.

TECH Topic RegO RWB

Hydrostatic Pressure on top of Globe Valve Seats

Have you ever used globe valves in a liquid transfer application where you have a black rubber transfer hose downstream of a closed globe valve.  And after the sun shines on the hose and the black hose absorbs the heat you have a high pressure hydrostatic condition exerting excess pressure on the top side of the globe valve seat assembly?  This condition exerts exceptional pressure down on the seat requiring more work to open the globe valve and causing more wear on the valve bonnet assembly.

By using the NEW RegO 2" and 3" Globe/Angle valves with built in automatic back check; the back check will allow the excess hydrostatic pressure to vent back upstream and thru the internal valve into the tank.

NEW 2" & 3" Globe/Angle Valves incorporate a built in automatic back check with part numbers:

HA7513AP / HA7514AP & HA7517AP / HA7518AP

HA7513The application was primarily designed for use in conjunction with our 6588LE and 6589LE low emission filler valves installed on bobtails and transports. The valves are designed to stop flow out of the container when the hand-wheel is closed. They incorporate an automatic integral back check that is designed to allow flow back into the container to prevent liquid from becoming trapped between the 6588/89LE and the closed globe/angle valve.  But we are finding more marketers recognizing the design benefits for using these valves under internal valves on storage tanks and on risers on bulkheads.

Features

  • V-ring spring loaded pressure stem seal provides for leak-proof operation. No packing to re-tighten or replace.
  • Circular bridge in globe design and a dropped seat in the angle design achieve greater flow with less pressure drop.
  • Swivel seat disc assembly minimizes wear which provides for good alignment and long seat life.
  • ¼" F-NPT plugged holes on upstream and downstream sides of the valve.
  • Heavy duty rolled ACME stem threads provide quick action and long service life.
  • Seat Disc assembly incorporates an automatic back check valve, eliminating the need for a separate hydrostatic relief valve.

Base Eng

Most every company with bobtails uses Base remote and emergency shutdown systems on their trucks; and some day will need repair and replacement parts for them. In the past they generally contacted the manufacturer and ordered the part for drop shipment. The minimum shipping charge out of Canada was fairly significant. But now Gas Equipment Company is an authorized distributor and we have all these parts in stock.

Laughing Joke of the Month

Due to the clouds and haze, the pilot could not determine the helicopter's position. The pilot saw a tall building, flew toward it, circled, and held up a handwritten sign that said "WHERE AM I?" in large letters. People in the tall building quickly responded to the aircraft, drew a large sign, and held it in a building window. Their sign said "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER."

The pilot smiled, waved, looked at his map, determined the course to steer to SEATAC airport, and landed safely. After they were on the ground, the copilot asked the pilot how he had done it.

"I knew it had to be the Microsoft Building, because they gave me a technically correct but completely useless answer."
