Seaport Re-Opens in May
photo credit: Kevin Scott, Olson Kundig Architects
The Foss Waterway Seaport reopens in May after extensive renovations.
Work began in mid-February on the restoration and rebuilding of the west, south, and east walls of the Seaport's Balfour Building. Thanks to a combination of a Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation grant of $750,000 and private donations raised by the Seaport, $1.4 million of work is now underway.
Care has been taken by the architects, Olson Kundig Architects, to ensure that the exterior walls will look very much as they did when the building was first constructed. The Foss Waterway Seaport is proud to be working with Jones and Roberts Company who constructed the dramatic glass wall on the north end of the building.
For more information about the project, visit www.fosswaterwayseaport.org.

Our Voices, Our Waterfront
TWA members and others are talking to writer Sharon Babcock about enduring inspirations, life lessons, and perspectives from their experiences on the working waterfront.
This month is the 10th installment in the series: Candy Nigretto, the executive director of the Tacoma Propeller Club.
"I feel our future is in good hands," says Candy Nigretto as she reflects on the young people she meets through her work as executive director of Tacoma Propeller Club, a 250-plus-member organization composed of a comprehensive representation of the marine industry core companies in the greater Puget Sound area. "I love asking them after they go up onto a crane at the port, 'If you could choose any maritime career, what do you think it would it be?' It gets them thinking."

Seaplane Float Back
for Season
The seaplane float is back on the water and ready for business after spending the winter in storage.
Located near the entrance to the Foss Waterway, the seaplane float is only a few minutes from the Rock the Dock pub and the Foss Waterway Seaport (to be reopened in the summer of 2014) and a short cab ride to the other museums located at the south end of the waterway.
