Abraham
Abraham study continues Sunday

Sunday, Pastor Brent James will continue our exploration of the story of Abraham, but we caution parents in particular that this week's sermon will address mature themes which are described in the scriptures themselves.

 Continue your personal study of Abraham by taking part in our new Bible study series. Learn about Abraham and the integral part he played in God's story. Join us 10:45 AM Sundays the Fireside Room. This is a great opportunity to discuss ideas with others as we delve into the study of this great character of faith. Topics include:

  • Stepping out in faith
  • Fear versus faith
  • Dealing with doubt
  • Promising the impossible
  • Bargaining with God
  • God's faithfulness despite relapse
  • Of sons and sacrifice

Highlights of 2012, and looking forward

 So many wonderful things happened in our year at PBF  in 2012. We are so thankful to God for all He has done and all we have seen in our midst. Pastor Brent James took the time to compile just a few of those for us in this video.

Perspectives: The Thread

perspectivesExpand your world, Consider "Perspectives"
 Perspectives on the World Christian Movement is a 16-week course that begins January 5th at Sylvan Way Baptist Church.  Classes will run every Saturday from 6 to 9 PM.  It is NOT a "missions" course, but a course designed to help you learn more about the Father's heart through the scriptures, music, prayer, and an interesting speaker each week.  It will ruin your life for the ordinary.

Who should attend:

1.  Those who were impacted by the 40-day Fast - this is a great opportunity to continue growing;

2.  Those who desire a deeper understanding of God, the Bible, and His will for your life;

3.  Those who are "stuck" and want God to jump-start their growth again;

4.  Those who have a heart for the lost; and,

5.  Those who long to see the world the way God sees it.

PBF has scholarship funds available.  Please contact a Missions Team member for further information.

Honor and care for God's temple. When others are struggling to keep their resolutions, we will be learning and exploring the concepts that will equip us to formulate lifetime habits re: the care and management of our physical bodies. Topics will include nutrition, eating to honor our body, stress management, hydration, sleep hygiene and habits, a fitness system that you can live with, and more. While this is much more than a "weight loss" class, a common side effect of gaining wellness is losing weight! For those of you who participated in the fast, this is a wonderful adjunct to continue your journey to greater spiritual  awareness, honoring God with your body, and retaining the healthy gains that you may have enjoyed as a result of the fast. Email Lesli Dullum-Tutterow at optimalwellnessconsulting@gmail.com

Jeff Lander: "A Place to Belong, A Place to Become"
9 AM Sunday, January 13th in the Fireside Room
Jeff Lander COTN
Jeff Lander & Family

The Lander family came to Children of the Nations (COTN) in 2007, after Jeff served as a youth, children's and families pastor for 13 years in New England and the Pacific Northwest. Over the last five years at COTN, Jeff has served as a Venture Coordinator, Venture Team Manager and Venture Director.

He will share a presentation that describes:
  • Our Story - How God Called Us to COTN
  • Their Story - How God Cares for The Children of COTN
  • Your Story - How God Creates Opportunities for People Like You to Change a Life

"We're passionate about children and families, that's why we're here! What a great opportunity to make a lasting impact in long-term, transformational ministry!" said Jeff.

Today, Jeff serves in two director roles:

  • Venture Director for COTN-USA Jeff uses his last five years of experience in sending people overseas to mobilize individuals and their God-given resources to support the vision to raise children who transform nations. Through the sending of short-term missionaries and interns, COTN can really impact both children in our care and the very people who travel overseas! What an exciting place to impact multiple people groups all for the glory of God!
  • Spiritual Care Director - COTN-INTERNATIONAL:  In the coming months ahead, Jeff will be giving half of his time to the important role of Spiritual Care Director, a role that he has been praying about taking on for over a year. The role carries with it the important work of helping each country develop both spiritual formation and evangelism opportunities within their own cultural context. Over the coming years, this role will ultimately assist each country in its efforts to raise children who will spiritually transform nations!

Jeff said, "I realized that over the last 20 years of my life, I've devoted my career and full attention to care for the broken and hurting lives of children, youth and families. People long to be valued and have meaningful relationships. That's why we are a part of this incredible ministry...rescuing and restoring the lives of thousands of children in Africa and the Caribbean. Ultimately, these children are no longer orphaned...they belong!"
