End-of-Year Giving Tax Deadlines loom
Donors must deliver checks on or by midnight December 31st in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2012 income taxes. Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service of 2013 will NOT qualify for a 2012 deduction even if the check was actually written in 2012. However, under the so called "mailbox exemption," checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked in 2012 will be deductible in 2012 though they are not received by a church until 2013. Please remember online giving operates 24 hours a day, and it dates the time you post the money. Access online giving by clicking the link on the bottom left of our website's home page. OR CLICK HERE. If you have a new mailing address and you are not sure if the office has been updated, please phone it in so that your statement will reach you in a timely manner.

Wellspring Ministry
|
Wellspring (Wellness Ministry) will start a new session 6-7:30 PM Tuesdays, beginning January 8th in the Fireside Room.
Honor and care for God's temple. When others are struggling to keep their resolutions, we will be learning and exploring the concepts that will equip us to formulate lifetime habits re: the care and management of our physical bodies. Topics will include nutrition, eating to honor our body, stress management, hydration, sleep hygiene and habits, a fitness system that you can live with, and more. While this is much more than a "weight loss" class, a common side effect of gaining wellness is losing weight! For those of you who participated in the fast, this is a wonderful adjunct to continue your journey to greater spiritual awareness, honoring God with your body, and retaining the healthy gains that you may have enjoyed as a result of the fast. Just a taste from Christmas Eve...

Little Drummer Boy |
Special thanks to Christmas volunteers
On Christmas Eve, PBF welcomed nearly 1,000 worshipers of all ages to our church. Some services were standing room only. We thank all of you for taking part, for inviting friends, bringing family and making this such a wonderful night of worship for us all!
We also give special thanks to all those who gave of their time and talents to make things go smoothly for so many guests. From parking attendants, to greeters, child care and nursery staff to the women who folded 700 bulletins, we cannot say THANKS often enough. We will give a more detailed list next week when the office is open and we have time to truly acknowledge you correctly. We will also post more videos of the night. For now, please enjoy the video link above. |

 PBF builds ties to the Dominican Republic with $20,500 in contributions, mission trip planned
We recently received this email from Jim Georgeson who sent a contribution for the Dominican Republic following our Place at the Table 40 Days Fast. Although his family lives out of state, he heard about the fast and chose to participate with his family. They sent their contribution to the church. We didn't learn of this long-distance participant until they mailed their contribution. Anita O'Connor, our financial administrator, sent them thanks for the check and received this reply:
Yes, we participated from a distance. My in-laws are Emil and Judy Heinze and they let us know what your church was doing. We wanted to participate. It was a very good experience, and our four kids did a great job too. Every time we had a craving for something outside the fast, we prayed for the poor in the Dominican Republic. That worked pretty well and I think we all got closer to God's heart through the experience. - Jim Georgeson
Thanks to Jim and all who participated from near and far. Thanks to your contributions, we have received $20,500 in total contributions that will be used to benefit the poor in the Dominican Republic.
A small group from PBF will be traveling to the Dominican Republic April 27th through May 4, 2013. They will join Pastor Brent on a mission trip to see firsthand the children of the I Love Baseball mission program, a ministry of Children of the Nations. The estimated cost of the trip is $1,500. Applications are available at the welcome desk and are due back for review by January 20th.
The Place at the Table 40 Days Fast was a spiritual journey walked by more than 200 people affiliated with PBF. They were asked to follow the diet of a poor person in the Dominican Republic, eating only staples of rice, beans, citrus fruits, carrots, avocados, chicken and few other items. They were asked to take the money saved following this diet, and donate it to the poor in the Dominican Republic, via the I Love Baseball program. Learn more here. |

 | | Perspectives: The Thread |
Expand your world, Consider "Perspectives"
Perspectives on the World Christian Movement is a 16-week course that begins January 5th at Sylvan Way Baptist Church. Classes will run every Saturday from 6 to 9 PM. It is NOT a "missions" course, but a course designed to help you learn more about the Father's heart through the scriptures, music, prayer, and an interesting speaker each week. It will ruin your life for the ordinary.
Who should attend:
1. Those who were impacted by the 40-day Fast - this is a great opportunity to continue growing;
2. Those who desire a deeper understanding of God, the Bible, and His will for your life;
3. Those who are "stuck" and want God to jump-start their growth again;
4. Those who have a heart for the lost; and,
5. Those who long to see the world the way God sees it.
PBF has scholarship funds available. Please contact a Missions Team member for further information.
