Tax Deadlines loom

Donors must deliver checks on or by midnight December 31st in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2012 income taxes. Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service of 2013 will NOT qualify for a 2012 deduction even if the check was actually written in 2012. However, under the so called "mailbox exemption," checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked in 2012 will be deductible in 2012 though they are not received by a church until 2013. Please remember online giving operates 24 hours a day, and it dates the time you post the money. Access online giving by clicking the link on the bottom left of our website's home page. OR CLICK HERE. If you have a new mailing address and you are not sure if the office has been updated, please phone it in so that your statement will reach you in a timely manner.

Senior Youth Retreat

Ever wonder why there is a church? What is it for? And how does that include me? In this intensive discipleship retreat filled with reflection and study, youth will examine the purpose of Christ's Church and how they are part of it. The trip is open to youth in 10th through 12th grades. Youth will stay at the Gladwin House, a facility in Belfair.

  • Depart 4:30 PM Friday, Jan. 11th.
  • Return 3:30 PM Jan. 13th.
  • Cost is $55 per person.

Deadline for registration is noon January 6th. All participants must complete a 2013 Medical Form and a registration packet. Materials are available from Pastor Andy Chinn or on the welcome desk. Email Andy at andy.chinn@peninsulabible.org .

Wellspring (Wellness Ministry) will start a new session 6-7:30 PM Tuesdays, beginning January 8th in the Fireside Room.

Honor and care for God's temple. When others are struggling to keep their resolutions, we will be learning and exploring the concepts that will equip us to formulate lifetime habits re: the care and management of our physical bodies. Topics will include nutrition, eating to honor our body, stress management, hydration, sleep hygiene and habits, a fitness system that you can live with, and more. While this is much more than a "weight loss" class, a common side effect of gaining wellness is losing weight! For those of you who participated in the fast, this is a wonderful adjunct to continue your journey to greater spiritual  awareness, honoring God with your body, and retaining the healthy gains that you may have enjoyed as a result of the fast. Email Lesli Dullum-Tutterow at optimalwellnessconsulting@gmail.com

CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH US
Christmas Eve Services
Click this photo for information on our Christmas Eve services.

Celebrate Christ's birth at 5, 6:30 and 8 PM
Are you willing to help us welcome the 700-plus worshipers we expect on Christmas Eve? We need some extra hands at every service to help things run smoothly. We would like assistance with the following:
  • Caring for children in the Nursery (5 & 6:30 only)
  • Serving as Parking Attendant between services
  • Greeting guests and distributing programs
  • Ushering guests, and helping them find seats
  • Hosting the Welcome Desk between services

If you can help, please email  HERE or  tammi.keffer@peninsulabible.org Indicate which service you can help and which service you plan to attend. THANKS!

Invite others to attend Christmas Eve with you! We have small invitations available at the entrances this Sunday and at the Welcome Desk. Most new visitors come to a church because someone invited them. Please ask others to "come and see."

THIS SUNDAY!

david_reedBlessings for David from a distant stranger...

We thought we should share this letter from Andie Bordner, adult sister of David Reed. Since August, David has been receiving treatment for an inoperable brain tumor. Just recently, he was able to move home, with assistance from nursing care. He is gaining weight and happy to celebrate Christmas at home with his family, including his parents, Dennis and Rui Reed. Andie frequently posts about David's progress on his Caring Bridge website. This was a recent post, a heart-warming story about a blanket:

David has had this soft, cuddly, very well-loved apple green blankie for as long as I can remember. He found great comfort and peace

Comfort Silkie blankets
Some blankets from Comfort Silkie

in that blankie. But sadly, when David returned from the hospital after many long months of treatment, Blankie did not make the trip home. Mom and I launched into dozens of in-store and online searches for an exact replica of Blankie without much success. UNTIL....I checked my newfound best friend, Amazon.com. I entered, "apple green silk baby blanket" - and TA-DA!!

Oh, how we rejoiced at the find, however, a new Blankie cost $52, had quite a steep shipping charge, and didn't qualify for free shipping. Scrolling down the page, I found the direct link to the company Comfort Silkies. I clicked on it. In the company's website, I learned the blankies are somewhat handmade, and the shipping costs the same as Amazon. I clicked "Contact us" and sent a very nice email to the company. I explained David's situation, agreed that the price of $52 seems fair for such a beautifully crafted product, and then I simply asked if there was any way the company could waive the shipping fee. End of email.

Within 24 hours, the owner of the company called me personally. I was surprised to say the least. She wanted to know more about the reason David was at Children's Hospital and how long he had been there. We dove into a very spiritual conversation where she literally thanked God that one of their blankets gave so much comfort to David at the most difficult time in his life. She told me that they are a really small company, very close with their employees, and have been through some roller coaster rides of their own, yet not to the degree that Dennis and mom have been through. She was a joy.

At the end of our conversation, she informed me that she was sending a box of comfort to the house, that it would be her pleasure to continue providing the comfort that these three still so desperately need. She told me she was sending out a full size and a "baby blanket"-size apple green blanket to David, with something special included for Dennis and mom. She told me she was going to send the biggest box they have, and to not let the "unfilled space" in the box fool me, as that space will be packed tight with prayers and love from her and each of their employees. That prayer-filled box should arrive this week. I am still tearful recalling our conversation, as it was very dear and touching. There are many people we are blessed with, now Jeanine included, that have continued to grace Dennis, mom, David, Carol, and I.

This story of giving, grace, and goodwill will live on in me for a very long time. I hope that it made you smile, and I hope that it restores some faith in humanity, a glimmer of peace on earth, and a light that twinkles just a little brighter in your eyes.

Perspectives: The Thread

perspectivesExpand your world, Consider "Perspectives"
 Perspectives on the World Christian Movement is a 16-week course that begins January 5th at Sylvan Way Baptist Church.  Classes will run every Saturday from 6 to 9 PM.  It is NOT a "missions" course, but a course designed to help you learn more about the Father's heart through the scriptures, music, prayer, and an interesting speaker each week.  It will ruin your life for the ordinary.

Who should attend:

1.  Those who were impacted by the 40-day Fast - this is a great opportunity to continue growing;

2.  Those who desire a deeper understanding of God, the Bible, and His will for your life;

3.  Those who are "stuck" and want God to jump-start their growth again;

4.  Those who have a heart for the lost; and,

5.  Those who long to see the world the way God sees it.

PBF has scholarship funds available.  Please contact a Missions Team member for further information.
