Kathleen Peck Welcomes Robin Goldstone Garcia
Saluting A Visionary
by
Art Bookbinder, Board President, Lighthouse of Collier
On Sept. 30, Kathleen Peck will be stepping down from her position as volunteer executive director of the Lighthouse of Collier Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Seven years ago, Kathleen and other community members had a dream to service the visually impaired community in Collier County. This endeavor had never been attempted in our area before.
Five years ago, this dream came to fruition when the Lighthouse received its 501(c)(3) classification. Kathleen, as one of the founders, then took on the responsibility of executive director. She has moved Lighthouse of Collier to a point of serving, at no charge, more than 900 individuals who are legally blind. Today, Lighthouse is nationally accredited and is staffed by certified professionals in the low-vision field.
Kathleen has attracted wonderful volunteers to the organization. She is revered by the clients Lighthouse serves. Kathleen is truly a trailblazer and a pioneer in moving Lighthouse through its infancy to where it proudly stands today. She will continue on the Lighthouse board and will be involved in the mentoring of the new Lighthouse executive director, Robin Goldstone Garcia, and continue to assist Lighthouse in achieving its goals.
Kathleen will always be known as the person who was responsible for enabling the thousands of legally blind in Collier County to get back their independence and live their lives to the fullest.
