- MEMBER SPOTLIGHT -
JAN ALEXANDER OF CROOKED CREEK ARABIANS
This month's Member Spotlight takes us to Jacksonville, Arkansas to meet Dr. Jan Alexander of Crooked Creek Arabians, and to learn of how her life-long love of horses brought her to where she is today.
When Jan's son left for college, she decided it was time to once again pursue her interest in horses. As a girl, she had owned and loved a special Quarter horse and missed the connection she had with that mare. She had competed in local barrel racing events, and had spent hours riding on the trails of Arkansas with her best friend, while they played at being cowgirls..... READ MORE

|
Reference Sire - Kamal Ibn Adeed
|
Jim Panek of JJ Arabians of Chico, CA welcomes a new arrival!
"We are thrilled to announce the May 1, 2015 arrival of a stunning new colt sired by Kamal Ibn Adeed (Al Adeed Al Shaqab-NF Bint Sajha) out of Ansata Nariyanna (Ansata Iemhotep-Ansata Nariya). The result of a great deal of study and planning, this new member of our program is a significant representative of his heritage, being a double grand-son of the eminent Ansata Hejazi, with four crosses to Ansata Halim Shah. Beautifully balanced, high on the leg, with type, refinement, and gorgeous movement , we could have not have dreamed for more. Photos, and a name for a foal destined to become a renowned sire and significant straight Egyptian show horse, are pending.

SAMIR ALI FOAL SELLS IN-UTERO TO EGYPT
Excitement is running high for Brenda Dumas at Rose of Cairo Arabians in Peralta, New Mexico! Her young black stallion, Samir Ali (Bellagio RCA X Barakis Gem), whom others have described as " the best young black Straight Egyptian stallion in the USA", is expecting his first foal crop in 2016 and one of those has been sold, in-utero! The new owner is a Straight Egyptian breeder in Egypt, who will make his own announcement at a later time.
Samir Ali is an Egyptian Event, Scottsdale and Class A Halter Champion, as well as the Egyptian Event 2014 "Most Classic Head - Male" and it is very exciting to know that his progeny will be in the land of his ancestors at such an early point in his breeding career. Laila Ali (Al Baraki X Sohnett), a 2005 homozygous black SE mare is the dam of this much anticipated "guaranteed black" foal.

HORSES, FOOD & EDUCATION: WISCONSIN REACHES "BACK TO THE FUTURE"
WEAHA: Wisconsin Egyptian Arabian Horse Alliance hosted a summer seminar and clinic "Back to the Future: Gifts from the Desert" from July 17-19th.
In Wisconsin we take food and horses and education very seriously! For 30 years or so, breeders of Egyptian Arabian horses in Wisconsin have met in kitchens around the state to share state-of-the-art casseroles and home-baked pies while catching up on horse-topics and planning for seminars and clinics.
Late in 2014 and into 2015, the story was the same. This time, however, we were planning for more than ourselves. We imagined a regional conference with national appeal, promoted with support from The Pyramid Society, that would profile the unique role the Upper Midwest played in the introduction of Egyptian Arabian horses to North America, as well as give breeders and enthusiasts at every level exposure to the standards that guide breeding and showing currently. The bonus was to be an opportunity for attendees to test their skills in measuring live horses against these standards.
"Back to the Future: Gifts from the Desert" was the result. We hoped people would come and come they did! From Utah and Arizona, from Texas, Michigan, the far north of Minnesota and, of course, Wisconsin and Illinois.
The event began with a reception on the plaza at St. John's on the Lake, on Milwaukee's lakefront, saluting Polly Knoll and her iconic photographs......

MICKEY HEGG REPORTS FROM YOUTH NATIONALS
The Annual AHA Youth Nationals Horse Show was held July 18th - 25th. After 23 years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the show says good-bye to the Land of the Sun, and looks toward a whole new venue in Oklahoma City in 2016.
Mickey shares, "We had 815 horses showing, averaging 3.19 classes per horse, and we had 40 patrons and 96 jacket sponsors, with lots of excited and hard-working youth. This year's show was exceptional - the young riders and their horses just keep getting better and better." And special thanks to Markel for providing several youth scholarships, as well as AHA's new sponsor, "Stride", and the many corporate sponsors - all of which helped make the show the best it can be for our young riders and handlers, the future of the Arabian horse industry.

WE WANT TO FEATURE YOU IN OUR NEXT PYRAMID SOCIETY YEARBOOK

The Yearbook is designed to capture a snapshot of the key activities, gatherings, seminars, conferences, special occasions, show wins, and community outreach efforts that our members have been involved in throughout the past year. And YOU are the journalists! Think about what will make a good story when you're planning and participating in activities throughout the year!
Items for consideration in the Yearbook, published in the December issue of the Arabian Horse World, will be accepted through October, 2015.
Here are some helpful tips for things to do and not do if you want your member news to be considered for the next Yearbook:
DO...
- Take and send us pro-quality, high-res photos (at least 5x7in at 300dpi)...
- Consider hiring a professional photographer for larger gatherings...
- Consider getting the "high-res, for print" rights to your Show Win photos...
- Gather and send us some quotes (first-hand accounts make stories more interesting)...
- Make note of the key details - what, when, and where; who and how many attended?
- Be on the lookout for those "special" moments - something memorable - something exciting...
- For seminars and clinics - what were the "takeaway" messages?
- For presentations and shows - who were the "standout" horses?
- Remember, to actually send us your news - just email it to info@pyramidsociety.org...
DON'T...
- Use a cell phone as your primary camera...
- Just send us an ad - we're looking for a story! Take us somewhere...
- Only talk about your horses; we know they're great! We want to know what you're doing...
- Send us something that can't be edited or condensed, if needed...
- Assume we know who you're talking about (please, identify the We's, He's, She's and Me's)!
- Submit news that isn't primarily about Straight Egyptian or Egyptian-Sired horses/programs...
- Forget to send your news (we don't know if you don't tell us)!
Remember - we can help you write your story, but it's up to you to send in the content. Members make it happen - and that's YOU!
