PRESPER
THE PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE

Dear Members & Egyptian Arabian Enthusiasts,

Well, it's hard to believe that the Event is just four weeks away! I am personally looking forward to a week in Lexington, seeing everyone's horses and catching up with fellow breeders. We are waiting for our last foal of the year and busy breeding the mares back. Our foal crop this year so far consists of six colts; NOT what I was hoping for! Hopefully the last one will be an exceptional filly!

The final touches of the Egyptian Event are in progress and there are some new and exciting changes. Hopefully, you have been following the E-blasts, advising of the great seminars and exciting new classes. The Gala will be held at the historic Spindletop Hall and promises to be memorable evening. Someone said to me recently, "Oh, that sounds like a New Orleans wedding"! Having attended one myself, let's just say those people know how to party. Let's plan to do the same!! I do want to remind you this is also our fund-raiser so we encourage and need your support. We also encourage all members to attend the Membership Meeting where The Board of Directors will be sharing our plans and soliciting the memberships' comments for further planning.

I am also excited to announce the upcoming publication of "The Straight Egyptian Arabian Stud Book" later this year. More information will be shared about this at the membership meeting. Board member Omar Sakr has provided the leadership and Sheikh Khalid Bagedo has sponsored the publication that will provide the foundation bloodstock for the Straight Egyptian Arabian through 1969, when The Pyramid Society established the definition. This publication will provide Straight Egyptian breeders an indisputable and unequivocal reference tool for confirming Straight Egyptian Arabian bloodlines. A special note of gratitude is extended to both Omar and Sh. Bagedo for their efforts in making this publication a reality.

I'm looking forward to seeing each of you in Lexington and safe travels!

Sincerely,

Bob Miars
President

THE 7th NATIONAL EGYPTIAN BREEDERS' CONFERENCE
AUGUST 21-23, 2015 - PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY

Ever just wished you could have an open discussion with other breeders about breeding great Straight Egyptian Arabians?

Ever wondered about the early foundation horses of this breed within a breed?

Ever wondered what it would be like to visit one-on-one with those who actually knew them?  What were they like?

What were the qualities for which they were known?

Tired of having to sort through all of the myths and misinformation so prevalent on the internet these days?

Then you won't want to miss The Pyramid Society's
in Princeton, New Jersey on August 21st and 22nd, 2015.

  • Hands-on conformation clinic!
  • Historical and contemporary schools of thought on applied genetics and breeding philosophies!
  • Apply your new skill set in planning your own two generation breeding program using many of the greats from the past.
  • Learn from those who actually knew them "up close and personal." Obtain historic footage of these horses. What were they like? What were their strengths, their weaknesses? What were some of their greatest contributions?
  • Benefit from group discussions and interviews with successful breeders, owners and others who knew the early horses.
  • Enjoy the camaraderie with fellow breeders and enthusiasts
Plan to spend a little extra time visiting historical sites and points of interest in the surrounding areas: Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and/or New York City, before or after the conference. Visit breeders in the local area! Following a long tradition of excellence in education, this promises to be our best yet!

For a more in-depth review of what you can expect at the Conference, please CLICK HERE!  Registration will begin soon.

JIM PANEK OF JJ ARABIANS IN CHICO, CALIFORNIA

Arabest Kamil
For our April Member Spotlight, we travel to Chico, CA. Jim Panek of JJ Arabians tells us his story about his journey breeding Arabian horses and how one horse catalyzed his Straight Egyptian breeding program into what it is today.

Jim states, "My involvement in Egyptian Arabians began in the 1970's when the desire to add more type, refinement, and quality to my existing program resulted in breeding two of our best mares to Ibn Morafic. The results were excellent, and these offspring produced a dynasty of Arabians that excelled in the show ring on a national level. Concurrently, I became a judge of Arabian horses, and became known for having a penchant for Arabian type. I was privileged to judge the Egyptian Event several times, as well as several years of national and global judging opportunities. At home, we had acquired our first straight Egyptian, the stallion El Naseet (Ibn Morafic X Sadeekah) and continued to breed and market lovely Egyptian-bred Arabians.

Through judging the Egyptian Events, becoming acquainted with the Straight Egyptian Arabian and the breeders involved; I developed great admiration and appreciation for The Pyramid Society and its continuing effort to establish a venue for the exhibition of the Egyptian Arabian through the Egyptian Event, as an organization to support its members in their quest to popularize the Egyptian Arabian, and as a cohesive support mechanism for the Egyptian Arabian enthusiast."

WE WANT TO FEATURE YOU IN OUR NEXT PYRAMID SOCIETY YEARBOOK

The Yearbook is designed to capture on paper a snapshot of the key activities, gatherings, seminars, conferences, special occasions, show wins, and community outreach efforts that our members have been involved in throughout the past year. And YOU are the journalists! Think about what will make a good story when you're planning and participating in activities throughout the year!

Items for consideration in the Yearbook, published in the December issue of the Arabian Horse World, will be accepted through October, 2015.

Here are some helpful tips for things to do and not do if you want your member news to be considered for the next Yearbook:

DO...
  • Take and send us pro-quality, high-res photos (at least 5x7in at 300dpi)...
  • Consider hiring a professional photographer for larger gatherings...
  • Consider getting the "high-res, for print" rights to your Show Win photos...
  • Gather and send us some quotes (first-hand accounts make stories more interesting)...
  • Make note of the key details - what, when, and where; who and how many attended?
  • Be on the lookout for those "special" moments - something memorable - something exciting...
  • For seminars and clinics - what were the "takeaway" messages?
  • For presentations and shows - who were the "standout" horses?
  • Remember, to actually send us your news - just email it to info@pyramidsociety.org...
DON'T...
  • Use a cell phone as your primary camera...
  • Just send us an ad - we're looking for a story! Take us somewhere...
  • Only talk about your horses; we know they're great! We want to know what you're doing...
  • Send us something that can't be edited or condensed, if needed...
  • Assume we know who you're talking about (please, identify the We's, He's, She's and Me's)!
  • Submit news that isn't primarily about Straight Egyptian or Egyptian-Sired horses/programs...
  • Forget to send your news (we don't know if you don't tell us)!
Remember - we can help you write your story, but it's up to you to send in the content. Members make it happen - and that's YOU!
