PRESPER
THE PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE

Dear Pyramid Society Members and Egyptian Arabian Enthusiasts:

It's that time of year again.......when we're each taking turns foal watching and waiting for that future Egyptian Event show-ring star!

And with that in mind, I want to call your attention once again to the fact this year marks the inauguration of our Golden Scarab Sweepstake (GSS) Amateur to Handle Yearling Classes. Eligibility for participation in this breeders' incentive program results from nomination fees paid by the Straight Egyptian stallion owners as well as by the mare owners. Payouts for these two classes will exceed $9,000 in this inaugural year.

In addition to the GSS classes, new classes that have been added or reinstated at this year's Egyptian Event include:
  • Addition of open "Jackpot" Yearling Egyptian-Sired classes
  • Addition of open 2 & 3-year-old Egyptian-Sired classes
  • Addition of open 4 & Older Egyptian-Sired classes
  • Addition of Egyptian-Sired Champion & Reserve Championship classes, Male and Female
  • Reinstatement of Straight Egyptian 3-year-old Extended Specialty futurity-enrolled classes
  • Change in the Gelding Championship to include both Straight and Egyptian-Sired horses
  • Addition of a Native Costume demonstration
  • Most Classic Head will now be judged as a component of the Junior and Senior Championship classes
These classes were added at the feedback of our members. Now, we earnestly solicit your participation and support in making them successful.

Secondly, in celebration of this year's theme: Stallions: Kings of the Nile, we have expanded our Heirs Apparent Showcase to include the aged stallions. As breeders, we love to see photos of the stallions. However, nothing compares to seeing the stallions in person. Owners, we are encouraging you to enter both your young stallions (the heirs to the throne) as well as your aged stallions in this year's special showcase.

Additionally, if you have not enrolled your stallion in the EBC, please do so. As the slogan says, "You've got to be in it to win it" - and this year's winners will win BIG, taking home checks exceeding a total $100,000.00!

And moving from the Egyptian Event show ring to the concourse, I want to also call your attention to our fund-raising efforts. As you know the silent auction showcase annually contains a "treasure trove" of original artwork as well as other unique and collectible one-of-a-kind items. If you have a "treasure" or two fitting this description that you'd like to donate, we'd welcome your participation. Give Gail Mailloux, our fund-raising chair a call if you have further questions, or complete the donor form, easily found on our website. Thank you in advance for your continued support of our fund-raising efforts.

We look forward to welcoming you at this year's 35th Egyptian Event celebration.

Sincerely,

Bob Miars
President

KEVIN & ALLYSON NUTT
OF ACORN ARABIANS

Our March Member Spotlight takes us to Grain Valley, Missouri. Here we get to know members Kevin & Allyson Nutt of Acorn Arabians, and learn of their  journey with Egyptian Arabian horses....

How did you first become involved with Egyptian Arabian horses?

Kevin was instrumental in bringing me to the SE world. He fell in love with some of the greats, and introduced me to them. I loved Arabians, but didn't know much about the SE world.

What are some of your horses' greatest accomplishments?
Although we haven't shown much, we have a colt in training at the Jeffries Arabian Center, and hope to have him show at this years Event.

What bloodlines/strains and qualities do you breed for?
We love the older bloodlines and are breeding for movement and athleticism.

What are some of your fondest memories of your involvement in The Pyramid Society?
We joined in 2007 and have been continuous members ever since. Before we bought our first SE - I contacted the office, and I believe it was Carol, that responded to me. I was questioning our first purchase, making sure she was what we were being told. I was really impressed that The Pyramid Society responded to "little ole me" and didn't ask for a dime! I knew then, that this Society was really out to help ....

ARABIANS LTD. SPRING CLIENT SEMINAR - A WONDERFUL TIME WAS HAD BY ALL

Arabians Ltd's spring client seminar was held at their facility in Waco Texas on March 28th and 29th, 2015. The weekend started off with several speakers covering topics such as Modern Day Straight Egyptian Horses, Stallion Selection Workshops, Why Your Horse Needs a Dentist, and Frozen Semen & I.C.S.I.

These sessions were followed by a Pyramid Society Update by Membership Committee Representative and Volunteer Coordinator, Jill Spizale. Jill began by pointing out the numerous volunteer opportunities available at the Event and the benefits of becoming involved. She then went on to highlight some of this year's Egyptian Event enhancements such as the Gala at Spindletop and the added Egyptian Sired classes. Finally she spoke on the new Performance Horse Award program and received rousing round of applause for all of the changes and updates being implemented by The Pyramid Society.

Following Jill's presentation, the attendees enjoyed cocktails, stallion presentations, dinner and an awards ceremony for the 2015 Breeder and Client of the year. Then on Sunday morning, attendees returned for brunch and Arabians Ltd's 2015 Egyptian Event Preview.

All in all this traditional Arabians Ltd event was another enjoyable weekend and a clear example of the fun and camaraderie shared by the Egyptian Arabian owners and enthusiasts in attendance.

STRAIGHT EGYPTIANS TRAVEL TO HELP STUDENTS LEARN

Four Straight Egyptian mares took their show on the road to assist high school FFA students in Southwest Missouri practice their judging skills on March 26, 2015.  Dr. Stephanie Watson-Bruto, D.V.M. Program Director/Instructor of Veterinary Technology of Crowder College, Neosho, Missouri, contacted Gail Mailloux of Two Silos Farm on the outside chance she could provide four Arabian horses for Crowder's Aggie Day judging contest.  Could four fuzzy mares give the students their first look at Arabians ever at this function? Are you kidding?  Of course!

"Dodging roller-coaster temperatures that have challenged all of us this winter, we managed to get four girls bathed and knocked some hair off their faces", says Gail. "It was so important to get the students access to these horses.  I knew they had never seen Straight Egyptians before....

Straight Egyptian horses were well represented at the show, accounting for 14% of the class entries. WE WANT TO FEATURE YOU IN OUR NEXT PYRAMID SOCIETY YEARBOOK

The Yearbook is designed to capture on paper a snapshot of the key activities, gatherings, seminars, conferences, special occasions, show wins, and community outreach efforts that our members have been involved in throughout the past year. And YOU are the journalists! Think about what will make a good story when you're planning and participating in activities throughout the year! Items for consideration in the Yearbook, published in the December issue of the Arabian Horse World, will be accepted through October, 2015.

Here are some helpful tips for things to do and not do if you want your member news to be considered for the next Yearbook:

DO...
  • Take and send us pro-quality, high-res photos (at least 5x7in at 300dpi)...
  • Consider hiring a professional photographer for larger gatherings...
  • Consider getting the "high-res, for print" rights to your Show Win photos...
  • Gather and send us some quotes (first-hand accounts make stories more interesting)...
  • Make note of the key details - what, when, and where; who and how many attended?
  • Be on the lookout for those "special" moments - something memorable - something exciting...
  • For seminars and clinics - what were the "takeaway" messages?
  • For presentations and shows - who were the "standout" horses?
  • Remember, to actually send us your news - just email it to info@pyramidsociety.org...
DON'T...
  • Use a cell phone as your primary camera...
  • Just send us an ad - we're looking for a story! Take us somewhere...
  • Only talk about your horses; we know they're great! We want to know what you're doing...
  • Send us something that can't be edited or condensed, if needed...
  • Assume we know who you're talking about (please, identify the We's, He's, She's and Me's)!
  • Submit news that isn't primarily about Straight Egyptian or Egyptian-Sired horses/programs...
  • Forget to send your news (we don't know if you don't tell us)!
Remember - we can help you write your story, but it's up to you to send in the content. Members make it happen - and that's YOU!

HOW TO KEEP YOUR HORSE SANE WHEN ON STALL REST
