THE PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE
Dear Pyramid Society Members and Egyptian Arabian Enthusiasts: January's always a good time for reflection; not only for looking back at past accomplishments, but more importantly, an avenue for building an even- more promising new year. With that in mind, I'm pleased to point out a few important accomplishments in 2014 and touch on plans for 2015 as follows: - We had a very successful fiscal year-end, thanks to the success of the Gleannloch Project. These funds will be held in reserves for board-approved projects which overall benefit our Society and the Egyptian Arabian horse world-wide.
- We produced an incredibly-impressive 2014-2015 inaugural Yearbook, working with Arabian Horse World. It's been a long-time goal of our Society to produce one comprehensive annual "go-to" publication, which highlights our horses, our members, and our activities. On behalf of the entire Society, please accept our gratitude for your support of it. In addition, hats off to the untold efforts of our PR Committee, the staff and the Arabian Horse World staff in putting this together. Efforts have already begun to continue building on this successful formula for 2016. And one additional note. If you're planning an open house in 2015, what more impressive publication could you have on hand for your attendees than this Yearbook? Current members may order complimentary copies of the Yearbook, and pay only the shipping charges. Contact The Pyramid Society office for further details. (It's another great member benefit.)
- The reinstatement of Egyptian-Sired classes at the 2015 Egyptian Event, with their own Championships. Look for the 2015 EE Schedule on our website in February.
- Another exciting happening in 2015 includes our National Breeders' Conference entitled "The Art of Breeding Straight Egyptian Arabian Horses" and scheduled for the weekend of August 21st in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the Yearbook, Keri Wright, our Education Co-Chair, recapped the successful conference in Egypt which served as the catalyst for this one. Further details will be included in both our Chariot and our website. Mark your calendars; you won't want to miss it.
Thank you again for your ongoing support of our Society. I look forward to seeing everyone at this year's Egyptian Event as we pay tribute to our "Stallions: Kings of the Nile." Sincerely,
Bob Miars
President

WELCOME OUR NEW VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR - JILL SPIZALE
 |
Jill Spizale Volunteer Coordinator
|
Have you always wanted to help out with Pyramid Society activities, but were unsure on how to get involved? The Pyramid Society is pleased to announce that Jill Spizale of J & J Arabians, our new Volunteer Coordinator is here to help. In this new position, Jill has one simple goal: membership involvement! According to Jill, "Membership participation is the key to any organization's success and future. Running this organization is challenging, especially for the four hard-working staff in Lexington. However, there are just as many tasks where volunteers can step in and lend a hand. This is where I come in. I will be soliciting and scheduling volunteers for national and regional events."
Together with her husband Jim, Jill owns J & J Arabians in Kokomo, Mississippi. The farm is also home to Desert Haze Arabians, owned and operated by daughter Amanda Picou and her husband Lance, and home to 15 Straight Egyptian mares and fillies. A member of The Pyramid Society since 2009, Jill admits she still has a lot to learn. As she states so eloquently, "There is no better place to learn than through The Pyramid Society--the guardians of the Straight Egyptian horse. This is where I see volunteerism as a win-win: TPS gets the assistance of its members, and the volunteers have the opportunity to learn from the pioneers of our industry."
One final note from Jill: "Many have said they would like to help, but have never been asked. Rest assured," She quips, "I will be asking!"
If you have an interest in giving back to The Pyramid Society as a volunteer, please contact Jill at: jill@jandjarabians.com and note "Volunteer" in the subject line.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Danny Cable, Co-Owner of Asante Arabians in Shelbyville, TN
 | KMF Ali Calypso |
Our first Member Spotlight of the new year takes us to Shelbyville, TN. Here we get to know Danny Cable, co-owner of Asante' Arabians, and how his dreams of breeding Straight Egyptian Arabians are coming true "day by day."
It has been a lifelong dream of Daniel Cable to raise and breed Straight Egyptian Arabians. In 2012, his dream came true. He finally got an opportunity to purchase his first Straight Egyptian mare, Infidels Angel, who was sired by Thee Infidel.
 | Heir Born |
Very soon after, a chance meeting with Beth Nash, previous owner of Mecca Arabians, who stood world class breeding champion Imperial Imdal+, led to Daniel purchasing Imperial Imdal's son, Heir Born. "Heir Born has excellent depth of hips and croup, excellent legs and structure, smooth body and length of neck," says Danny, "and Heir Born is the ONLY living stallion in the USA by Imperial Imdal+ out of a Shaikh Al Badi daughter. Only three stallions of this cross were born, and one of them, Shaikh Al Shamal, sired multiple Egyptian Event halter winners. The third, Imtir, is now deceased. Heir Born's dam line traces to the Babson Egyptian Imports. His fifth dam is National Champion producer Faaba who is of the same strain as triple U.S. Top Ten Stallion and National Champion sire Ansata Ibn Halima++, to whom Heir Born traces his sire line."
At the same time, Danny purchased U.S.Top Ten National Champion Stallion KMF Ali Calypso, who is also a multiple regional halter champion. "With limited opportunity at stud, he is a champion sire and has sired Egyptian Event halter winners, including EBC Reserve Champion Colt ESA Ali Asaraah. KMF Ali Calypso was sired by the great Calypso Dance, out of Ruminaja Ali daughter, C Princess Rakia. He has wonderful balance with laid back shoulders, long neck, level top-line, and regal bearing in his movement," states Danny.
Soon after making these purchases, Danny called his best friend, Walt Bagar and his wife Donna. They came over to look at his new stallions. Like Daniel, Walt thought they were the most beautiful horses he had ever seen, and later that day he and his wife became co-owners, forming Asante' Arabians. Since then, Asante' Arabians has obtained five more broodmares: an Anaza El Farid daughter, an Ibn Safinaz daughter, an Imperial Imdal daughter, a Sharif Dakar daughter, and an Imtut daughter.

Midwestern Egyptian Breeders meet with Top Authority on Assisted Equine Reproduction
The regional group MEAHA (Midwest Egyptian Arabian Horse Alliance), comprised of Pyramid Society members and other Egyptian Arabian enthusiasts, was off and running at the start of the 2015 year with an activity on January 10 in Columbia, Missouri. Dr. Robert R. Foss, global authority on Assisted Equine Reproduction Techniques, treated 26 breeders to a lecture, "Preparing Your Mare for Breeding Season and the use of Cooled and Frozen Semen," plus a tour of one of the most advanced laboratories offering Embryo Transfer (ET), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), and Embryo Biopsy services. Dr. Foss' Equine Medical Services, Inc. was the first private practice facility to offer non-surgical ICSI in the mare.
The group first met at the Holiday Inn Express East in Columbia for a great lecture explaining the uniqueness of the mare with regard to reproduction and how to prepare her for breeding season. "Dr. Foss' welcoming manner of presentation engaged all of us and many questions were bounced back and forth," says Gail Mailloux, one of the event's organizers. "Included in his presentation was video footage taken by endoscope of an actual aspiration of unfertilized eggs (oocytes) from a mare's ovary. The swirling seen during the flushing procedure of the egg from the follicle was truly amazing to watch!"
