THE PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE
Dear Pyramid Society Members and Egyptian Arabian Enthusiasts:
Although we read it some 60 years later than its penned date of 1954, I have found the words from Ronald Duncan's "The Horse" remain just as relevant today:
Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride, Friendship without envy, Or beauty without vanity? Here, where grace is served with muscle And strength by gentleness confined. He serves without servility; he has fought without enmity. There is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent. There is nothing so quick, nothing more patient.
We have another year behind us and an exciting year before us. May you continue to be inspired by the gift of the horse. It is a pleasure to serve as President of The Pyramid Society, and on behalf of our Board and Trustees, we wish all of you a blessed holiday and a prosperous New Year!
Sincerely, Bob Miars
President

Yorklyn Arabians Recovery Efforts
The Pyramid Society is deeply distraught by the news of the catastrophic barn fire on Saturday, December 20th at Life Member farm Yorklyn Arabians in Delaware. We are united with the Egyptian Arabian horse community in our sympathy and heartbreak for the loss of so many horses treasured by Jeannette, Nadia and the Amer family.
The Pyramid Society has already begun the process of communicating with the Amers and those closest to the family to clearly determine what assistance will be needed at Yorklyn Arabians and what the best possible ways will be for members to contribute to any recovery efforts.
We will post further details on the thread started on our Facebook page; however, we anticipate that these efforts will begin slowly over the upcoming holidays. We are working to make complete details available as soon as possible. Please join us in rallying around the Amer family with your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

MEAHA Presents "Preparing Your Mare for Breeding Season" - January 10, 2015 in Columbia, MO
Attention Mare Owners!
The Midwest Egyptian Arabian Horse Alliance (MEAHA) is hosting the guest lecture series "Preparing Your Mare for Breeding Season and the use of Cooled and Frozen Semen" given by Dr. Robert R. Foss of Equine Medical Services, Inc. Columbia, MO.
Dr. Foss is one of our nation's leading experts in Equine Assisted Reproduction Techniques including ET, ICSI, and Embryo Biopsy, lecturing world-wide on this subject.
Make your reservations NOW for this January 10, 2015 meeting in Columbia, Missouri. We will meet first at our Host Hotel, Holiday Inn Express East for the lecture, and then we will drive a short distance to Equine Medical Services for a tour of the facility, including a trip into the laboratory where we will watch Dr. Foss do an actual ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection). Just wait until you see the giant microscope that does this work! Wow!
The event is FREE to MEAHA members or $15.00 for guests. Contact Allyson Nutt (Acorn Arabians) via MEAHA Facebook or Gail Mailloux (Two Silos Farm) to reserve your spot. Space is limited!
Gail says, "Don't miss the opportunity to meet this wonderful veterinarian who assists several of us in The Pyramid Society with our breeding programs. In fact, this year our EBC competitors at Two Silos will include not only ET babies, but an Embryo Biopsy baby brought safely to us courtesy of Dr. Foss."
"Our sponsors Equine Medical Services, Inc. and equine breeding supply company Breeder's Choice, along with The Pyramid Society, are making this great activity possible," she concludes, "Thank you!"

Lone Star Arabians Makes Plans for Houston All Arabian Show
Ken & Karen Shutts of Lone Star Arabians in Magnolia, TX, are celebrating 2014 and looking forward to 2015, with plans to hit the ground running in January...
"Lone Star Arabians hosted its first potluck dinner with other local small breeders to celebrate and enjoy the holidays," writes Karen, "This first get-together of breeders of Egyptian Arabians was a big success. We all had a great time sharing a food and ideas. Everyone seemed eager to try to have clinics and to get together in the future at the shows, showing together and supporting each other."
With this spirit of camaraderie in mind, Lone Star Arabians has plans to attend the upcoming Houston All Arabian Show in Katy, TX, where Pyramid Society Members will have a presence with a member-hosted booth for Egyptian Arabian information and also through local Straight Egyptian classes for mares and stallions.
"LSA will be attending the annual Houston All Arabian Horse Show and co-hosting a Saturday evening BBQ and Horse Presentation with Michael Byatt Arabians. We are also taking seven horses to the show! Patriot LSA will be under saddle in Western Pleasure for the first time. Bint Rasheeka Shabha will be under saddle in the Hunter Pleasure classes." Lone Star plans to display several of their horses and to give away free breedings to some of their stallions on Saturday, with hopes to generate interest in the breed.
"We are hoping to encourage many of our area breeders to get out and come to the show," concludes Karen. The Pyramid Society wishes best of luck to Lone Star and all of the Egyptian Arabian breeders participating at HAAS!

The Bandera+ Relocates to Scottsdale
Tom & Gail Chasteen of Meadow Creek Arabians recently visited their multi-discipline champion stallion, The Bandera+ (Alixir x Arabella MCA), in Scottsdale, AZ, and sent in this update...
"Bandera is now standing at Sandspur Ranch where he is in training with Tara Carpio," says Tom, "Also residing at Sandspur is Rasheedah Al Ameen (The Bandera x Noir Desir). Rasheedah is a 2014 flashy show filly owned by Bill and Cheryl Corcoran of Blythewood, SC."
While in Scottsdale, the Chasteens also visited McDonald Arabians, where Gary McDonald presented Valyrian Steel (The Bandera x Sabreena SA). "Steel is a snazzy show colt owned by Ilana Mizrahi of Houston, TX. Both of these foals have The Banderaʼs superb body and topline," Tom describes, "Gail and I are looking forward to seeing them compete in the 2015 Egyptian Event in their respective EBC classes."
The Bandera+ will return to the EBC Auction in 2015 and will also have a limited number of breedings available for the 2015 season

Pyramid Society Youth Named 2014-2015 AHA "Youth of the Year"
Jacklyn Abernathy, daughter of Jéanne and John Abernathy of BrookHill Farm, LLC, in Franklin, TN, was recently named the Arabian Horse Association's "Youth of the Year" for 2014-2015.
The official AHA Press Release states: "AHA's 'Youth of the Year' award honors one outstanding youth member annually. Criteria for this prestigious award are based on his or her achievements and contributions to the Arabian horse industry, AHA, and his or her community. This year, AHA was privileged to review applications from some of the brightest youth members and interview final candidates. Each of the finalists presented their own strengths, passions and insights, but one young lady's accomplishments and drive to see the Arabian breed grow, stood out. AHA is proud to announce that Miss Jacklyn Abernathy, from Franklin, Tennessee, is the honored winner of this year's 'Youth of the Year' award."
The article goes on to note some of Jacklyn's achievements, including exemplary service as AHA Region 12 Youth Director and AHA national Convention Committee Chair. Jacklyn has also been involved in her community and is a model student, and as a part of the award she will receive a $1,000 scholarship from AHA. To read more, please download the full official Press Release here.
"We've been involved in The Pyramid Society since 2003, and Egyptians are such a big part of her life," Jéanne writes, "Jacklyn has been attending the The Egyptian Event since she was 7, starting as a spectator and growing into a treasured member of the barn work crew. She earned a Top Ten in JTH Mares with our homebred BH American Girl."
The Pyramid Society extends sincere congratulations to Jacklyn for her many accomplishments and for receiving this very special award!
