JUNE PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE
Dear Pyramid Society Members and Egyptian Arabian Enthusiasts:
At the close of another Egyptian Event, I am proud to speak on behalf of the Board and Pyramid Society staff in saying thank you for making our Event such a special celebration for the Egyptian Arabian horse. Without a doubt this year's Event will remain a very gratifying one, most especially due to the tremendous shared pride in our unified efforts with the Gleannloch tribute. Whether we were fortunate enough to have known them personally, have their bloodlines in our individual breeding programs, or whether we're new on the scene, we can all be proud of the legacy they have passed on to us as Straight Egyptian owners and enthusiasts. I take this opportunity to once again thank the Marshall family for their incredible gifts to our Society and I also thank you for your tremendous support of the Gleannloch auction. This is the single largest donation in our history and our heart-felt gratitude is extended to every one of you for helping make it possible.
By choosing The Egyptian Event as the premier gathering of Straight Egyptian horses in the world, each exhibitor, sponsor, vendor, volunteer, staff member, honoree, guest, live-stream viewer, and even Facebook follower made a genuine, lasting impact on the breed at large. Regardless of who was standing in the winner's circle, there are very few shows where so many different people with so many different perspectives can get behind one another with such a common purpose. This is your show, and I am pleased to congratulate each of you on a job well done.
As we look ahead to another great year and another great Event, scheduled for June 2-6, 2015, I hope each of you has taken the time to participate in our 2014 Membership and Post-Event Survey (non-members may send feedback by clicking here). If you haven't already done so, won't you please take 10 minutes and let us know how we're doing? I can promise you that the results of this survey are reviewed very carefully by our staff and Board of Directors in our continued efforts to improve both our organization and our Event.
MEMBERS: PLEASE HELP GUIDE OUR ORGANIZATION. CLICK HERE BY JULY 11th TO TAKE THE 2014 MEMBERSHIP AND POST-EVENT SURVEY. (Non-Members, please click here to send us your feedback).
Sincerely,
Bob Miars
President

Recapping the 34th Annual Egyptian Event!
Over the years, we've learned not to count the days; they always come and go in the blink of an eye! The flags and banners, the flowers and ferns, the tents and treasures that so magically transformed the arena now await the next gathering. The proud and noble Egyptian Arabians who graced the Kentucky Horse Park are back at home, guarding their barns and pastures, enjoying a well-deserved rest. Their dedicated owners and trainers, on the other hand, never seem to rest! Another new foal is on the way, another show is right around the corner... and, of course, it's time to make plans for next year's EBC breedings!
Without a doubt, the 34th annual Egyptian Event celebrating "Gleannloch Farms: The Legend and the Legacy" was "one for the books," infused with a palpable sense of goodwill and nostalgia surrounding the record-breaking donation of items to The Pyramid Society from the estate of Douglas B. and Margaret Cullen Marshall (photo below by Richard T. Bryant).
Lifelong admirers and torch-bearers of the influential Gleannloch breeding program had a hard time keeping their eyes - and hands - off of the rare glimpses into history on display throughout the show in the Gleannloch Auction tent! But, just a few yards away in the center ring, it was the living history that brought this year's five-day show together...

Remembering Joe Zoran
The Pyramid Society was recently notified by Life Member M. Kent Mayfield of the passing of Joe Zoran of El Reata Arabians.
"Joe was the importer of the stallion *Akmar, who figured prominently in many Straight Egyptian pedigrees in this part of the country 25 years back," writes Kent, "Joe was a long-time enthusiast of the Straight Egyptian horse and an active member of the Wisconsin Egyptian Arabian Horse Alliance until his health began to deteriorate in recent years."
Joe was known for his keen eye for conformation and his appreciation of the classic elements of the Egyptian Arabian, and his story-telling skills were legendary. "Joe will be missed here in Wisconsin and wherever his personality is remembered," concludes Kent.
Memorial arrangements have not been finalized.

We are so fortunate to have Mr. Peter Cameron, International Equine Judge, emceeing the presentation of our horses. "Born May 16th out of our Laheeb Al Nasser daughter, Hejazia, "Rosy" is exquisite! We are over-the-top pleased with her overall quality and personality, and couldn't be happier with her. She's futurity nominated, and her overall quality confirms that this same mating will be this years EBC foal!"

A June Arrival for Zilal Al Hawah Arabians
Carol A. Rice of Zilal Al Hawah Arabians in Sealy, TX, recently reported the arrival of a brand new colt...
Carol says, "Finally, I have some news to report! At Hank DeShazers Breeders Classic show last fall, I purchased an embryo... The sire is Aziim Al Amaar, and the dam is EAI Madheena, by Imperial Madheen. Well, on June 13th, which was also Friday the 13th, my newest little superstar entered the world! This is an extremely nice grey colt - tall, leggy, and with enough personality for two colts!"
Carol reports that he isn't officially named yet, but that his barn name is "Bucky Bad Boy." With a nickname like that, we'll be interested to see what the future holds!

Tammen Shah
Rhita McNair of Pinehurst, TX, is sad to report the loss of her 14-year-old stallion, Tammen Shah...
"It was quite a shock to lose Tammen Shah on Friday (6/20)," she writes, "He was joyfully running in the arena and, apparently, died suddenly of a heart attack."
Tammen Shah was a son of Tammen bred by Tom & Rhita McNair, and he was featured among the Gleannloch Heritage horses in this year's Egyptian Event Show Program on page 255.
Rhita concludes that Tammen Shah's legacy still lives on. "I am blessed to have a 3-year-old daughter of his that looks so very much like him."
Tammen Shah sired many exceptional horses and himself was a Class A Halter and Performance Champion and Egyptian Event Liberty Champion. The Pyramid Society extends sincere condolences to Rhita for the loss of this influential stallion.

Cariswood Arabians Celebrates New Arrival and Anticipates Next Year's Foals
Keri & Carolee Wright of Cariswood Arabians in Sandy, UT, are pleased to announce the birth of a very special filly by Imperial Al Kamar and out of Abraxas Bint Abu...
"She represents the best of both her sire and dam," Keri writes, "She's very well balanced; great structure; very correct; large, beautiful eyes; presence; overall great Arabian type. Definitely a keeper!"
"We are also pleased to announce that our mare, Cariswood Mahrousa (see photo to right), is in foal to Ansata Sheikh Halim for an April 2015 delivery. "Mahri" is a granddaughter of the immortal Bint Magidaa through both her sire, Thee Infidel, and her dam, Magidaa's Image (full sister to Miss Maggie Mae). We think that this will be a wonderful cross and can hardly wait for the birth of this little one."

Top Ten in Her First Show: JC Naddara
Carolyn LaMarchina and Mark Johnsen of Jocarta Egyptian Arabians, LLC in Billings, MO, share thanks and accolades for their recent 2014 Egyptian Event success...
"The sweet and beautiful 2-year-old filly, JC Naddara (Hadidi x ND Samarra), entered an arena for the first time at the recent 2014 US Egyptian Event," writes Carolyn, "In spite of some nerves and weight loss, she trustingly followed her handler, Kim Morgan, through her paces to a Top Ten win!"
For Carolyn and Mark, it is the first time they have ever entered a horse in The Event and also the first time they have shown anything in the past 12 years! Carolyn says, "Sometimes you just have to show one of your horses to see how your breeding compares to current trends, and it's hard to do that if they just stay in the pasture. We had a great time, made new friends, and we encourage everyone to consider making next year your year at The Egyptian Event."
She continues, "Thank you so much to her handlers Kim Morgan and Tony Steiner, who did a great job getting her ready and keeping her together; to all her fans who cheered her on; to Nancy & David Korekach for allowing us to own her dam; to Dr. Joe & Gail Mailloux for allowing us to breed her dam to Hadidi; and most of all, to my dearest love, Mark Johnsen for putting up with me during this process! Without all of you, this moment could not have happened!"

"Amateur Halter Champion Mare; Champion, Most Classic Head - Female; Silver Champion Junior Stallion; and more class winners and Top Tens than we can mention!"
Gary writes, "Thank you to all the breeders who had confidence in Scapa, chose him for their mares, and competed with them at this year's Egyptian Event. And, thank you to all those who 'saw the vision' and invested in Scapa by purchasing shares in his syndication. Those visionaries include: Danny Heithold, Missy Head, Beth Witt, Jeannette Longley, Sam & Elisa Gamble, Randall & Pamela Allen, Walt & Marianna Arms, Al Trausch, and Nadine Pappas."
"As the breeders of Scapa, Wanda and I are humbled by his success. We have always believed that 'Paradise' was meant to be shared, and Scapa is a classic example of that." Gary adds, "There are a few shares remaining in Scapa's syndication; if you're interested in learning more, please contact me at Paradise Arabians."
