PRESPERSPJANUARY PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE

Dear Pyramid Society Members and Egyptian Arabian Enthusiasts:

You've been on my mind! Watching the news from my comfortable armchair in Texas, I realize the difficulties many of you have and continue to face with weather-related issues in your area. Winter, and especially January, can be brutal, and the ongoing threat of extreme drought has our west-coast friends in the U.S. quite concerned, as well.

However, I take comfort is realizing that spring  - and new foals  - will soon be here.  Fast forward a bit, and we're back to June (and usually very hot weather) at the Egyptian Event! Regardless of the temperature, it is the annual highlight for us Egyptian Arabian breeders and enthusiasts, and I look forward to welcoming you to Lexington from June 3rd through the 7th.

With that in mind, I want to highlight the following:
First - this year marks the 45th anniversary of The Pyramid Society, as well as the 34th anniversary of The Egyptian Event.  Both are monumental milestones for our organization, and something all of us should be proud of.

Second - Please note the show begins on Tuesday, June 3rd and concludes on Saturday, June 7th. By combining some of the classes and eliminating others, we're able to be streamline costs for everyone, and still provide all the social, educational and enjoyable activities that have become the hallmarks of our Event.

At this time I also want to call your attention to a positive change in the show ring which allows handlers to present multiple entries.  This and other updates and changes will be detailed in our February edition of The Chariot, as well as on our website later in February.

In closing, I want to again highlight this year's tribute to Gleannloch Farms.  I am both overwhelmed by their accomplishments as Straight Egyptian breeders and humbled by the legacy they have left all of us. I dare say that very few breeders do not have a Gleannloch-bred horse somewhere in their breeding program. Paying tribute to that legacy will be both an honor and a privilege that we can all collectively celebrate.

Information about the Gleannloch Farms: The Legend and the Legacy Tribute book follows in this newsletter.  I know you will want to be a part of it.

Sincerely,

Bob Miars

President
The Pyramid Society

MBRSPOTJANUARY MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Lyn Rogers, Lyn Lee Arabians, Waco, TX

"The joy of 'now' makes all of the tough times breeders experience so very much worth going through... I encourage all the new breeders that I meet to get their hands dirty more often and to enjoy as much as possible those special moments of closeness with your horses."

Our very first Member Spotlight of 2014 takes us "down to the farm" with Lyn Rogers of Lyn Lee Arabians in Waco, Texas. Lyn recounts her entry into the world of Egyptian breeding...

"I fell in love with horses again when I first visited Arabians Ltd. and met the Straight Egyptians there," she says, "That first mare I purchased has led to a new and exciting life for me building Lyn Lee Arabians. Being a member of The Pyramid Society has always been part of the journey I am still enjoying today with my horses."

Lyn is especially grateful for that first week of June that we've all grown quite fond of... "I start looking forward to the next Egyptian Event the day I get home from the current one," she muses, "it is such a great time to reconnect with fellow breeders and friends and to see what is happening in all of the different breeding programs across the world." Accordingly, she considers the Barn Parties to be some of the best time she spends at the show. "It's a great time to see horses and visit with different breeders in a more relaxed atmosphere, without having to travel the globe to meet them," says Rogers, "and the different seminars offered during the week of the Event, not to mention the well-researched and beautifully-presented annual Breeder's Conferences, have proven invaluable to my education on this wonderful horse."

Like so many Egyptian Arabian breeders, Lyn loves to network and learn, but she won't deny the excitement and allure of the show ring. "One of my favorite Egyptian Events was in 2007 when I sent two of my own horses yet was thrilled to cheer for three other horses from my program that also had great success." Lyn's memorable string in 2007 was Mystique LL (Mishaal HP x Erie Anna), Top 10 in the Straight Futurity Finals for Fillies 1/1 - 4/15, and LL Sirocco (Pimlico RCA x Moonlite Sonataa), Top 5 in Egyptian Breeders' Challenge Colts... MBRNEWSMEMBER NEWS

January News from Lone Star Arabians
The Shutts family of Lone Star Arabians in Magnolia, TX, is excited to announce the farm's first foal of 2014, a grey colt named Malik, sired by Aziim Al Amaar and out of Desha Bint Maysama.

"Malik foaled on January 10th," reports Marketing Coordinator Amanda Hammack, "We just knew from first sight he was going to be something to share with the Egyptian Arabian community - his short back; clean, straight, long legs; and curious, excited personality!" He is pictured here alongside his dam.

In the show ring, Lone Star's Bint Rasheeka Shabha (The Sequel RCA x Rasheeka Shabha) also made her performance debut at the Region 9 Houston All Arabian Show in Katy, TX. "She competed wonderfully under saddle, taking home Reserve Champion Jr. Hunter Pleasure and 3rd place in Sport Horse with Kimberly Shutts."

"Kimberly has done an exceptional job in ground and green breaking Bint Rasheeka Shabha and a number of other Egyptian Arabians as they come of age," Amanda continues, "We truly believe that these horses not only are beautiful beyond belief, but also have the unique ability to be trained in a number of disciplines. Kimberly has a special way with the horses, and they just adore her!"

Solomaan and Aga Gamaan Gain Wins for Hackberry Arabians
Donnie and Yvonne Jones of Hackberry Arabians in Manvel, TX, couldn't be happier to share their recent success at the Katy, TX, Christmas Show...

"Solomaan (Hawkeye CC X Saalilly) was Reserve Champion Straight Egyptian Stallion class, and Aga Gamaan (*Gamaan x Akira) was Champion in the Straight Egyptian Stallion class! This was Solomaan's second show, with his first show being Nationals as a Futurity Colt. We were very pleased that the Christmas show offered these Straight Egyptian classes this year, and we are so very proud of our boys."

Congratulations to Donnie and Yvonne on a successful show and for representing the breed in Texas!

Eastern Star Arabians Introduces Two New Breeding Stallions
Polly Schaefer of Eastern Star Arabians in Monroe Township, PA, is pleased to introduce two new stallions to the Eastern Star breeding program...

"Nile Hafiz KA (Makhnificent KA x Saafara KA), pictured, has arrived for the 2014 breeding season. He offers a beautiful blending of Kehilan and Imperial bloodlines and will be available to a limited number of breeders for an introductory stud fee," says Polly, "We are also introducing ESA Adlai (Imperial Amir Kamar x ESA Laila Nile) to our 2014 stallion lineup."

Imperial Imdal+ Son, Heir Born, Moves to BrookHill Farm
Daniel Cable and Walt Bagar of Asante' Arabians are pleased to announce that the Imperial Imdal+ son, Heir Born, will stand the 2014 breeding season at BrookHill Farm in Franklin, Tennessee, where he will be under the expert guidance of Jill Girardi Thomas, trainer.

"Heir Born was an unknown, hidden jewel in the Straight Egyptian world until he was purchased by Asante' Arabians in 2011," says Donna Bagar, "Like his immortal sire, Imperial Imdal+, he  possesses all the qualities and traits attributed to a great breeding stallion. Heir Born is the only living stallion in the U.S. by Imperial Imdal+ and out of a Shaikh Al Badi daughter."

"It is also with great anticipation that we are waiting for the delivery of Heir Born's first foal in early March. The foal will be out of Saffire MA, our Ibn Safinaz daughter." Heir Born's 2014 bookings will be limited to 10 approved mares.

Asante' Arabians is also proud to announce the completion and publication of extended, six-generation pedigrees and pedigree research of both Heir Born and the stallions KMF Ali Calypso (Calypso Dance x C Princess Rakia). T
he research for these pedigrees was done by the well-known author, Arlene Magid, and the full research is now linked from each stallion's profile on The Pyramid Society website or can be viewed on the Asante' Arabians website, linked below.

Duane and Diana Cantey Announce Plans to Retire their Breeding Program
After 15 years of breeding quality Straight Egyptian Arabian horses that have found homes around the globe, Duane and Diana Cantey of Zajaddi Egyptian Arabians in Mt. Vernon, AR, are retiring their program. The Canteys have made substantial contributions to the Straight Egyptian community through their foundation mare Azaamah (Tammen x Aleeyah x *Ibn Morafic).

Azaamah was bred by Rhita McNair of Thistlewood Farm. Her maternal granddam, IL Warda, was bred by Gleannloch Farms and was sired by the great *Morafic. Her female line goes back through *Bint Bint Kafeefa (EAO) to Rodania. Azaamah's golden cross was established with Imperial Baarez in 2000, and with him she produced 5 foals of which 4 are show champions. Of those foals, 2 were exported - her 2004 colt, Baarafic (Australia), and 2005 filly, Imperial Beveerah (Belgium).

Her first filly born in 2001 and bred by Zajaddi, Barizzah, is now proudly owned by Al Shafallahia Farm, Qatar, and her second daughter, the exquisite 2003 mare, Baariyah, was also bred and retained by Zajaddi. Most memorable for the Canteys was Azaamah's 2009 unexpected twin colts by Imperial Mistaar. The firstborn, Zaahir Staar, a 2011 Egyptian Event Top Five Futurity colt, was exported to China in 2013. To date, Azaamah has had ten foals, and is expecting one last foal for Zajaddi in April.

"She has been an amazing mare and is quite a treasure," Diana concludes, "She has always exceeded our expectations in breeding and we are proud of her accomplishments. We look forward to watching Azaamah's get and grandget carry on her legacy around the world."

Kamal Ibn Adeed Offspring Shows to WIN in Kuwait
Dennis Fournier and Anne Wright of A & D Arabians in Penn Valley, CA, write to report on the champion offspring of the stallion Kamal Ibn Adeed (Al Adeed Al Shaqab x NF Bint Sajha), currently on-lease in 2014 to Arabians Ltd. in Waco, TX.

In the words of Dennis Fournier, "Kamal Ibn Adeed continues his rise to world class status." From Kamal's first foal crop, his son Haizoom Al Asil out of Ansata Omniya took his class at the Kuwait breeder's show. "He bested the other eighteen colts in the class, and to go one better, he also earned the "Best Head" award before going on to be named Bronze Champion of the show!" Haizoom is the only offspring by Kamal that has been shown, to date. "This is truly a sign of things to come," Dennis states.

"A & D Arabians is proud that our breeding program has produced a stallion like Kamal, but we are equally proud of our mares that are capable of producing progeny that can win in today's show ring. We are expecting a foal by Kamal out of Ansata Omniya's daughter Omitu in April, and this foal may be available. We are equally excited about the Kamal foal due in May out of Kamal's three-quarter sister Hejazia. These foals should be spectacular."

In 2014, A & D Arabians plan to lease a Laheeb Al Nasser daughter from Miars Arabians to breed to Kamal, in addition to breeding their own Laheeb Al Nasser daughter to him. Anne and Dennis are also excited about breeding Omitu to Bellagio RCA.

"Kamal has now settled into his new routine at Arabians Ltd. and is very happy," Dennis reports, "It is exciting to see the mares that are being booked to him and to realize that they will be producing future champions by him. We thank all those who have shown an interest in our breeding program and invite everyone to visit us using the links below." Anyone interested in breeding to Kamal in 2014 should contact Shawn Crews at Arabians Ltd.

Al Zarif LDA Wins Reserve Champion Stallion Sport Horse In-Hand, HAAS Show 2014
Dan & Louise DeRusseau of LD Arabians in Cedar Creek, TX, are excited to report that Al Zarif LDA (Mishaal HP x Il Bint Magidaa), a 2010 Straight Egyptian Stallion, took 2nd place in the Open Sport Horse In-Hand class, 1st place in the Junior to Handle class, 1st place in the Amateur to Handle class, and Reserve Champion Stallion overall for Sport Horse In-Hand at the Houston All Arab Show (HAAS) on both Saturday and Sunday, under two different judges!

"This was his very first show ever and he was a bit "frisky" but not bad at all for a young stallion," says Louise, "Plus, he was shown in all three classes by a 17 year old young lady!  We were very happy with him for his show debut especially being shown by a junior handler!  We are so grateful to Meredith Spice and her niece, Montana, for doing the training and showing for us!" Al Zarif LDA is bred and owned by LD Arabians; inquiries welcome.

HS Tadeusz Comes to Renaissance Arabians
David L. Myers of Renaissance Arabians is pleased to announce that the stallion HS Tadeusz, owned by Karen Maisano of Howell, Michigan, will be on lease to Renaissance Arabians for the 2014 and 2015 breeding seasons!

"HS Tadeusz is a son of the incredible Simeon Sadik and out of the Imperial Imperor daughter MA Tatia! Tadeusz will cross perfectly with the daughters of REA El Kaream+ and Ansata Nadeem with their correct type, conformation, pedigree, and balance! HS Tadeusz is tested CLEAR for all genetic diseases as are all the REA stallions." For more information about the horses of Renaissance Arabians and booking your mares, use the links below.

Carol Rice of Zilal Al Hawah Arabians is pleased to announce the latest upgrade for her program...

"After much anticipation, the new look for ZilalAlHawah.com has finally been revealed! Designed by Augusta Hammock, a fellow member and Business Partner of The Pyramid Society, our new website features a stunning original design to showcase our prestigiously-bred stallions, mares, and sales horses." Carol is excited to report that the new site is completely mobile-ready, so visitors can check out the horses anywhere, any time!

"Zilal Al Hawah Arabians is preparing for a bright and abundant future, and our new website is the first step," she concludes, "It is truly cutting edge, and we could not be more excited about it."
