Ibn Rabdan: The Unifying Thread
by Joe Ferriss.
Tall, dark, and handsome. It seems fitting to apply that colloquialism to the Egyptian stallion Ibn Rabdan. His advent to the scene of Arabian horse breeding in Egypt is an interesting saga upon which to reflect.
His subsequent admiration by many and success as a sire would eventually result in the fact that no Straight Egyptian horse exists today without his appearing somewhere in the pedigree, often numerous times. He is literally a unifying thread weaving together many various breeding combinations of Egyptian Arabian horses...

PRE-ORDER NOW! AVAILABLE MID-DECEMBER!
The Arabian Horse: Nature's Creation and The Art of Breeding
by Dr. Hans Joachim Nagel, 2013
Newly available in 2013, The Arabian Horse is written by the highly-esteemed Dr. Hans Joachim Nagel of Katharinenhof Stud in Germany, a proud Life Member of The Pyramid Society.
The Arabian Horse will acquaint horse-lovers with the Arabian horse and its essential contributions to the English Thoroughbred, to the French Anglo-Arab and to the existence of all warmblood horses... How did it happen that this particular exotic horse, brought up in the deserts of Arabia, bred by nomads in one of the poorest environments on earth, could reach and play such an important role? And why did, again and again, some of the greatest horsepeople to ever live become fascinated by the Arabian? In this book, Nagel expertly tells the story of Arabian horses, where they come from, and where they acquired all their appreciated virtues.

NOVEMBER PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE
Dear Pyramid Society Members and Supporters:
On behalf of the governing board of The Pyramid Society, I am pleased to officially publish The Pyramid Society's Positional Statement regarding the approved definition of Straight Egyptian bloodlines. To reiterate The Society's position, all bloodlines originally designated as Straight Egyptian at the founding of The Society ARE indeed considered Straight Egyptian. In our ongoing efforts to continually educate about our rich history, we will be publishing more in-depth articles about the founding of The Pyramid Society as well as the rationale behind the chosen bloodlines. We take great pride in our Straight Egyptian horses and the impact they have made world-wide and we welcome and support all fellow Straight Egyptian Breeders who share our passion.
The Pyramid Society Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse - A Statement of Confirmation for All Approved Bloodlines
The Pyramid Society is concerned with the indiscriminate use of the Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse definition and with the unfounded allegations that are being propagated about the integrity of certain bloodlines embraced by this definition.
The Pyramid Society is the exclusive global authority entitled to determine which horses are considered Straight Egyptian per the definition that they established and introduced in 1969. Years of careful research have gone into determining which bloodlines of the horses bred in Egypt would form the genetic pool for the Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse breed. This genetic pool was predominantly chosen from the Royal Agricultural Society/Egyptian Agricultural Organization stock and from horses bred on the private farms in Egypt which were also felt to possess the desirable characteristics sought by The Pyramid Society and were supported by verifiable and authoritative breeding records. The breeding of Straight Egyptian Arabian horses has continued with global success for over forty years based on this definition and the parameters carefully established in 1969. Those horses withstood the test of time as evidenced by their ability to regenerate their unique type and nobility in their progeny and in the Arabian horse population at large.
The Pyramid Society urges all breeders of Straight Egyptian Arabian Horses to refute all those unfounded claims that have often been propagated due to lack of knowledge of the horses included in the definition of the Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse or to serve questionable marketing agendas. The pedigrees of all the founding horses have been scrutinized and vetted closely by the founding members of The Pyramid Society in collaboration with the Egyptian Agricultural Organization and no evidence has since presented itself to give reason to question any of the approved bloodlines.
In setting this definition, The Pyramid Society did not intend to infer that Arabian horses bred in Egypt are superior to other Arabian horses with different bloodlines. However, it was felt that the horses bred in Egypt falling within the Society's definition, were a proven source of the desirable characteristics, qualities and traits that the founders of The Pyramid Society sought to perpetuate and preserve. The Pyramid Society encourages every Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse breeder to study and understand this definition, and to stand united to preserve the legacy and secure the future of the Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse breed. We welcome all those who share our vision and passion for this unique Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse and ask that all inquiries concerning any of the approved bloodlines be directed to The Pyramid Society.
Sincerely,
Bob MiarsPresidentThe Pyramid Society

The Pyramid Society's 6th National Breeders' Conference titled, "The Global Influence of the Straight Egyptian Arabian" was another educational triumph. OCTOBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Ann Dorsett, Dorsett Farms, Woolwich Township, NJ
"Some members never let a looker pass by the stall without taking a moment to admire their horses. Others watched fretfully but let us actually lay hands on their once-in-a-lifetime stallions. All of them welcomed this novice to their homes and farms over the years. Of course I wanted to join!"
 |
Zedann (Morafic x Omnia) - Dorsett Farms' original Foundation Sire
|
In our November Member Spotlight, we're headed northeast where we find Ann and her husband Larry, owners and operators of Dorsett Arabian Horse Farm in Woolwich Township, NJ. Ann and Larry have been members of The Pyramid Society since 1981 and have dedicated much of the past 35 years to the loving care, breeding, training and sales of Egyptian Arabian Horses...
"We admire the Classic Arabian horses, those of gentle personality, airy type, beauty and powerful ability," says Ann. "It was at a show in Delamarva that I first saw Arabians at their best. Among the lovely horses was an unforgettable Tuhotmos son, liver chestnut, bright mane and tale shining in the sun. The rings were crowded with glamorous bays with four whites in the tradition of Khemosabe at the height. That was all it took for me to plan my exit from the disappointing world of Walking Horses." Ann had somewhere to go. Her next stop was a local small breeder of Egyptian-related horses, and then on to a production sale at Flaby Arabians. "I remember Sar Ibn Moniet for being able to roll and get up clean. My kind of horse! We bought a related mare and a Straight Egyptian filly to start us off."
Early in the Dorsetts' Egyptian program, the stunning *Morafic son, Zedann, and the dramatic Ansata Shah Zaman son, Ansata Nile Bay, offered an exceptional combination of internationally known "immortals": *Morafic, Nabiel and *Ansata Ibn Halima. "They produced foals with bold, easily trainable attitudes, size and ability. Bred to our daughters of Shaik Al Badi and Rofann, they produced all we could ask in style, ability and type." Today, Dorsett Farms looks to stallions Windd Rush and Mysterios to make their mark soon. "Windd Rush, in person, emphasizes the beauty and correctness of the best of *Ansata Ibn Halima and *Morafic. The young Mysterios brings in successful contemporary lines from *Morafic without bypassing the same magic cross. We expect spectacular style, size and talent from him."
Recalling the early years of the Egyptian Event, Ann writes, "We were so impressed by the McNairs saddling up the Gleannloch stallions for a daily ride at the horse park. We always thought those beautiful, docile horses had to be the foundation of a long-lasting program. As they become rarer, we continue to hold those Gleannloch and *Morafic mares dearest. Their cooperative personalities and calm intelligence make them good citizens, easy to train, with substantive conformation." According to Ann, Dorsett Farms breeds for each of these traits, and also for beauty: "the classic large eyes, fine coat, and dark skin." They seek "mature, gracious, airy mares, and stallions of presence and thundering action."
"For me, the Event was always a sea of friendly faces, all dedicated to the horse they loved..." (CONTINUED)

TTEAM Workshop Gives Participants New Tools for Connection
Cheryl Corcoran of Al Ameen Arabians in Blythewood, SC, recently sent us a recap of the recent TTEAM workshop held at Al Ameen...
"On Saturday, November 16th, Al Ameen Arabians hosted a Linda Tellington-Jones TTEAM Workshop with a great group of participants," she writes, "Jayne Stewart, the TTEAM Practitioner, helped the group understand and apply the three phases of TTEAM--The Tellington TTouch; Learning exercises from the ground; and the joy of riding. Everyone had a chance to work with the horses and learn how to apply the methods of touch and work through a series of ground and riding exercises to enable a horse to override old patterns and to learn without fear or force. It was a great educational experience and a chance to make new friends both human and four-legged."

Paradise Arabians Celebrates Music City Wins, Welcomes New Stallion
Wanda Kenworthy of Paradise Arabians in Lafayette, GA, was excited to share several pieces of good news, including a string of wins for Paradise horses at the recent Music City show in Murfreesboro, TN...
"Our new trainers Rich & Amy Simpkins (pictured) and their two small children are a true blessing to us and are wonderful to have here," begins Wanda, "I think they are everything and a bag of chips for Paradise!" Rich & Amy recently joined the Paradise Arabians team and have been working with Paradise clients to show them a whole new level of excitement in the show ring.
At the recent 34th Annual Music City Arabian Horse Show, held November 15-17 at the Miller Coliseum near Nashville, Rich & Amy helped lead several Paradise horses into "the blue" in the Halter classes. "It was a sight to behold," Wanda exclaimed! CLICK HERE TO SEE THE RESULTS.
The Kenworthy family is also pleased to announce that Paradise Arabians is standing a new outcross Stallion, a 2006 grey Straight Egyptian named Shahil Pasha IA (Shahil ITSB x SES Mahala), owned by Illusion Arabians and standing at stud at Paradise for 2014. "He carries no Minstril or Desperado blood and has a rare and exceptional pedigree," states Wanda, "He will be introduced to the public at our Stallion, Breeding & Birthing Clinic, January 25th & 26th, so SAVE THE DATE!"

Zandai Saif Al Din Takes Top Honors at Shootout Show
Sara Bowling of Edifier Arabians in Southlake, TX, is enthusiastic about her stallion's recent show ring success at the NTAHC Shootout Show in Glen Rose, TX...
"Everyone wonders who the next great Arabian stallion will be," she writes, "I can say with confidence that Zandai Saif Al Din is that stallion! At his very first show he won Championship in Halter with our trainer, Pete Lichau of Rose Gate Farm. Saif is also being trained under saddle and has been showing great athletic ability."
For Sara, this is just the beginning, and the excitement is building at Edifier Arabians! Saif is standing at stud to outside mares and will also be continuing his show career in 2014; see his profile in The Pyramid Society's Stallions at Stud section. "I can hardly wait to see what next year has in store!"
