SEPTEMBER PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE
Dear Pyramid Society Members and Egyptian Arabian Enthusiasts:
I hope all of you are carving time out of your busy schedules to thoroughly enjoy your horses! I want to take this opportunity to discuss the Golden Scarab Sweepstakes (GSS) Program with you. If you're like me, when this program was officially launched in the 2012 Stallion Guide, it was a bit easy to put this information on the back burner. After all, this program would feature Egyptian Sired yearling classes at the 2015 Egyptian Event - and 2015 seemed a long time off!
However, with time passing way too quickly (please forgive me for reminding you of that), I felt this issue of The Chariot provided both an excellent opportunity to encourage your involvement as well as refresh your memories about this program. In this Cliff Notes version, I want to highlight the following:
Its Purpose - it was designed with two major goals in mind:
(1) To provide outstanding incentives for both Egyptian and non-Egyptian breeders to breed to Straight Egyptian stallions;
(2) To provide even more excitement at the annual Egyptian Event through GSS class paybacks.
How it Works - Straight Egyptian stallion owners who enrolled their stallions in the EBC Auction became eligible to participate in the GSS by paying an annual $500 nomination fee. There are 18 nominated GSS straight stallions (click to see the list!) whose progeny will be eligible to show in these inaugural 2015 GSS classes, providing all mare owners nominate their unborn foals into the program. Please note: both stallion owners and mare owners, whether Straight or Egyptian Sired, pay this $250 mare nomination/sustaining fee for every foal nominated into the program. These in-utereo foals must be nominated by December 31st to be eligible to compete in 2015.
Paybacks - will consist of money from the stallion nomination fees, mare nomination fees and from the GSS class entry fees. The Pyramid Society will retain only 10% of all fees for the inaugural year to help build the pot. Payouts will go to the Top 5 winners in these new ATH yearling classes.
Again, if you have bred to one of these nominated Straight Egyptian stallions in 2013, we strongly encourage you to nominate your unborn foal into this exciting new program. Futurity forms will be mailed from The Society's office, and they will also be available on the web after the member mailout next month. (As a caveat here, at present the forms are located under Membership/Member Benefits. However, we are revising our web to make our "Breeder Programs" easier to locate. Look for this important revision soon.)
And lastly, if you're a Straight stallion owner, please consider the advertising and monetary opportunities available through the GSS and plan to enroll your Straight stallion in both the EBC and GSS in 2014.
Thank you again for your participation in all of our programs as well as for your ongoing support of our Society.
Sincerely,
Bob MiarsPresidentThe Pyramid Society

SEPTEMBER MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Tom & Gail Chasteen, Meadow Creek Arabians, Rocky Face, GA
"We have learned a tremendous amount through the educational programs offered at The Event, made some lasting friendships, and fully enjoy our lifestyle with all of the fun and hard work that go with it..."
| Gail Chasteen with The Bandera+ |
Our September Member Spotlight shares the story of Tom & Gail Chasteen of Meadow Creek Arabians in Rocky Face, GA, who in ten short years have seen their dreams of owning farm land and living a country lifestyle come to fruition...
"It was also a lifelong dream to have horses," recounts Gail, "After two years of looking for property and researching Egyptian Arabian horses, Meadow Creek Arabians came to be when we purchased 18 acres of land in northwest Georgia, along with our first filly and mare (who was in foal at the time)." Since then, Meadow Creek's mares have produced several show-quality offspring, but the crown jewel of Gail & Tom's breeding experience has been their 2004 bay stallion, The Bandera+. "He is a dynamic stallion with great presence, sired by Alixir and out of our beautiful Infidel daughter," Gail remarks.
With excitement, the Chasteens are looking forward to Bandera's 2014 foals. One will be out of Bill and Cheryl Corcoran's (Al Ameen Arabians) Alixir daughter, Noir Desir. The other will be out of Mary Lehr's (LG Arabians) Magic Dream daughter, Sabreena SA. Both of these anticipated foals will be EBC eligible with show debuts in 2015.
Gail & Tom expect Bandera's foals to follow in his footsteps and exhibit the same conformation, athleticism, and mind evidenced by his own performance. "The Bandera's show record has been outstanding in both performance and halter," says Gail, "To name a few of his accomplishments, The Bandera is an Egyptian Event Unanimous Champion World Class Stallion (8 & 9 Years Old), Egyptian Event Reserve Champion Stallion ATH, and a Regional Reserve Champion Arabian Stallion Breeding/AOTH. He is also a two-time Scottsdale Reserve Champion in Hunter Pleasure, two-time National Top Ten in Hunter Pleasure, and a four time Regional Champion in Hunter Pleasure."
At home, at Meadow Creek Arabians, Tom & Gail are currently riding and training their other horses... (CONTINUED)

Donatello KA
The Pyramid Society offers its condolences to Mary Ellen Chavez of Sonrisa Farms in Los Lunas, NM on the passing of her stallion Donatello KA (Makhnificent KA x DB Shahlaha) on Saturday, August 31st, 2013. The 2001 grey had a memorable show career, garnering top 10's at The Egyptian Event, a Class A Championship, a Reserve Champion World Class Stallion, and ranking in 2009 as a leading Straight Egyptian Sire of halter winners. Donatello began his breeding career in 2004 and was also a proud Pyramid Society EBC Stallion.
"The day I met Donatello for the first time, the course of my life was altered, even though at that moment I didn't realize it," writes Mary Ellen, "With my 18-month-old son on my hip, I arrived at Kehilan Arabians and instantly found not only the breathtaking white stallion I had dreamed of, but also some of the greatest people I have ever met. Becky, Janice, Nancy, Herb and Jean took me into their family, and I will be forever thankful to them." Mary Ellen reports that Donatello colicked late on the last Saturday in August.
While there is rarely a happy ending when we lose our closest companions, The Pyramid Society caught wind of a beautiful story of friendship and support which emerged from Donatello's passing. The day before he died, artist Paola Marinangeli released a portrait of Donatello, which was noticed by fellow New Mexico breeder and member Brenda Dumas of Rose of Cario Arabians in Peralta. Brenda, upon learning Donatello had died, rallied the support of other breeders, friends, family and Pyramid Society members to purchase this painting for Mary Ellen, in memory and honor of her stallion. "I was overwhelmed at the love and caring that all of these people selflessly came together to express for me as well as for Donatello," writes Mary Ellen, "I cherish the people and relationships I've made through these incredible Straight Egyptian horses. I am still overwhelmed with emotion and appreciation to everyone for their outpouring of love."
While nothing can replace the horses we have loved and lost, we continue to be amazed at the care and camaraderie of our membership, embodying the true familial spirit of the Straight Egyptian horse.

Idan Atiq Horses Succeed at 2013 Israeli Egyptian Event
Tzviah Idan of Idan Atiq Arabian Stud in Israel writes to share of their program's recent successes at Israel's annual Egyptian Event Israel, held in early September, 2013...
"Two horses from our program won championship titles," states Tzviah, "Our 2010 colt, Atiq Abir (Nader Al Jamal x Atiq Ayla), won the Silver Medal in the Colts section, and the 2012 filly Malikah AA, sired by Laheeb and out of our Atiq Adara (Al Ayad x Alhambra B), owned by Ariela Arabians, won the Bronze Medal in the Yearling Fillies section." It was the first time either horse was ever shown.
Idan Atiq Arabian Stud owners Tzviah Idan and Kuti Aharon were also thrilled to host Marion Richmond of Simeon Stud (Australia) this week while she visited Israel with her family. "We spent an awesome day together evaluating horses from our program, which are closely related to Simeon foundation mare 27 Ibn Galal V, and we also visited parts of Israel that most tourists never get to see." Later in the day, Tzviah, Kuti, and Marion were welcomed to Ariela Arabians, where they were also treated to a horse presentation.

Straight Egyptians "Heat Up" the New Mexico Chile Festival
Mary Ellen Chavez of Sonrisa Farms in Los Lunas, NM writes in to share about local members' outreach at the recent New Mexico Chile Festival in Los Lunas...
"We have a great group here in New Mexico: Brenda Dumas (Rose of Cairo Arabians), Jake Gutierrez (Wildwood Farms) and Cynthia Culbertson (El Miladi) were all instrumental in helping make this a success," she writes, "We introduced our beautiful horses to a lot of people." Mary Ellen, Cynthia, Brenda, and Jake each had a few words to say about Straight Egyptians to the crowd, who then had an opportunity to spend an hour with Sonrisa's Conntessa KA and the 28-year-young SW Fa Anna, who Mary Ellen reports was wonderful about letting the children hug on her and feed her treats.

Scapa and Tommy Garland at Recent Paradise Arabians Clinic
Wanda & Gary Kenworthy of Paradise Arabians in Lafayette, GA, were thrilled with Tommy Garland as he worked with Scapa (Mishaal HP x Erie Anna), and some of his get, to demonstrate his "C.P.R. for Horses" strategies.
The clinic, held in August, enabled attendees to experience Tommy's common-sense training techniques and also helped the Kenworthy family showcase the incredible Scapa! Gary says, "Everyone knows that Scapa is an incredibly beautiful stallion that produces superior-quality foals. After all, he was second (by a significant margin) on the Leading Sires list at this year's Egyptian Event. It is impressive by anyone's standard, but when you consider he held that distinction in three categories: by points, by number of winners, and also in the combined category of halter and performance sires... that's powerful! What everyone doesn't know is that they may be seeing Scapa in the show ring again, under saddle! We'll see. Given what he has accomplished with Tommy, and his love affair with Amy Simpkins, that might be a good bet!" To see Scapa and Tommy at work, click the "keep reading" link below and look for the video clip on the sidebar!

2013 has been a great year for Fertile Crescent, with the arrival of a beautiful grey filly by Thee Desperado out of the Pope's mare, Amal Magidaa LDA. "Arabians, Ltd. helped us with this special ET foal which allowed us to continue dressage training with Caspian eQuest in Wylie, Texas."
