APRIL PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE
|
Dear Pyramid Society members and Egyptian Arabian enthusiasts,
There's no doubt about it: April is here... and April is almost gone! I, like many of you, am excited by the arrival of spring, which means that foals are arriving, breeding decisions are being finalized, and preparations for The Egyptian Event are in full swing. The staff and board are eagerly awaiting the arrival of The Event and are ready to debut some of the new features for 2013. This year's theme, "Mares: Queens of the Nile," is providing several new and unique opportunities to celebrate the foundation of the Egyptian Arabian horse. For example, the staff and Marketing Committee have been working diligently on the Egyptian Event Show Program to make this year's publication a valued and collectable memory. I hope each of you will seize the opportunity to participate in the special, advertiser-exclusive "Heritage Mares" section of this Show Program; time is quickly running out to make your reservation! We are also excited to announce a preliminary agreement with the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona for the sponsorship of Egyptian-Sired classes at the Arabian Breeder Finals scheduled for October 9-12, 2013 in Scottsdale, Arizona. The AHAA has offered to provide three Egyptian-Sired classes each for Females & Males with a Championship for each. The classes would consist of: Yearling, 2-3 Year Olds, and 4 Years Old & Over. These six total classes would be worked into the normal schedule, with the two Championship Classes to be held on the final day along with the other Championships. In return for providing these classes, the AHAA requests two things from The Pyramid Society: 1) At the Arabian Breeders Finals, each Championship Class has a $5,000 sponsor to contribute to the prize money and awards for these Championships. We have been asked to assist in securing two sponsors for the Egyptian-Sired Championship Classes. 2) At The Egyptian Event, these classes need to be promoted to ensure their success and strength at the Arabian Breeder Finals. We have been asked to provide a booth and extend promotion of the Arabian Breeder Finals show during The Event. By fulfilling these two requests, we will be providing an excellent added opportunity in 2013 for Straight Egyptian and Egyptian-Sired breeders to showcase their breeding programs. Finally, I also want to personally thank all the committees and volunteers for their efforts and dedication to make this year's Egyptian Event one of the best! I'm looking forward to seeing each of you in Lexington this June! Sincerely,
Bob Miars President The Pyramid Society

The Pyramid Society was proud to be present at the 7th annual Arabian Breeders' World Cup show in Las Vegas, April 18-21, 2013. Executive Director Anna Bishop represented The Pyramid Society in an inviting booth space, sharing information with spectators about the upcoming Egyptian Event, The EBC, the GSS, and The Pyramid Society!
On Saturday, Scott Benjamin, internationally-recognized Arabian judge, provided a morning seminar entitled "The Egyptian Allure: Enduring Influence in the International Show Ring," focusing on the contributions of Egyptian bloodlines among today's champions. Both members and non-members - were present to hear Scott's incredible presentation on the world-wide influence of the Straight Egyptian horse!
Then, on Saturday afternoon, new Life Members Colleen Jackson and John Cranston of Azizah Arabians International in Australia, and their stallion, KA Damascus, sponsored desserts at The Pyramid Society booth, as well as a raffle for a beautiful Nancy Gates Heirloom Arabian Halter! The winner was Dennis Hilkhuijsen of Mesa, AZ, a long-time friend and advocate of The Pyramid Society. Congratulations, Dennis!
Several members competed in the Vegas show and stopped by the booth to show their support. The Pyramid Society continues to work on behalf of members and Egyptian Arabian owners world-wide to promote the breed and its indisputable legacy. By all accounts, the enthusiasm of Pyramid Society members at the recent Alabama All Arabian Horse Show was nothing short of viral, sparking the interest of show participants, and catching the attention of the judges and event planners. As you can read in our Member News below, the Egyptian Arabian horse made a proud showing.
In the wake of this excitement, The Pyramid Society welcomed a new membership from Kathy Hedgepeth, First Vice President of the Georgia Arabian Horse Association, who was not shy to compliment The Society and its membership. "The one thing I know from the feedback we have gotten and the HUGE support of the Alabama show is that Society folks have the energy and willingness to help make a show a success," exclaims Kathy, "and they have FUN doing it! I have been blown away."
In addition, Kathy was pleased to announce the addition of a full range of SE halter classes, as well of SE performance classes, to GAHA's upcoming Summer Classic, which will take place August 9-11, 2013, in Conyers, GA. Pyramid Society member Allison Mehta-Westley of Talaria Farms will be sponsoring the Grand Championship Mare and Stallion classes, and Pyramid Society member Kimberly Douglas of Markel will be donating coolers for the SE & International Class winners. "We are planning a fabulous show," says Kathy, "All in all, I think we will have very strong support."
