PYRAMID SOCIETY NEWS TPSNEWS

The 5th National Breeders' Conference

"Great conference! I have been to almost all of them, and it is amazing how The Pyramid Society continues to find meaningful things to share with us!" - Jeanne Abernathy, Brookhill Farm

"It was the best yet! The facility was amazing, the speaker roster was the best!" - Roxanne Parks, ISIS Arabians

"I am so glad that I attended - it was well worth the time and cost of attending!" - Louise DeRusseau, LD Arabians

"I loved the conference! I found it extremely informative and educational." - Kristy Caswell, Infinity Egyptian Stud

These praises have been echoed again and again in conversations with more than 70 attendees of the 5th National Breeders' Conference, recently held October 12-14, 2012 at DeShazer Arabians in Tomball, TX. A top-notch facility, an expert panel of speakers, a variety of delicious food, a diverse group of dedicated breeders, and an atmosphere of camaraderie: all hallmarks of an enormously succesful weekend spent exploring Standards of Excellence in Egyptian Arabian Breeding.

Our deepest thanks to Hank & Sandra DeShazer for hosting this year's conference, to Markel for their Education Sponsorship, and to Bob Miars, Becky Rogers, and Keri Wright, conference co-chairs, for all of their hard work to make this event such a resounding success!

Pyramid Society Elects to Discontinue Stallion Owner Participation Program

The Stallion Owner Participation Program (SOPP) was first introduced in the late 1980's as one of The Pyramid Society's first incentive programs. In this program, stallion owners agreed to pay half of the Pyramid Society Futurity nomination fee to any mare owner breeding to their stallion. With the introduction of the EBC, GSS and other promotional opportunities, the SOPP has seen an ongoing annual decline in participation, with only a handful of stallions enrolled this year, and recently averaging just two Futurity  nominations per year. In light of these statistics, and after much consideration, the Board of Directors has determined that the Stallion Owner Participation program will be discontinued, beginning with the current 2013 membership year.

We appreciate your past involvement in this program to promote The Pyramid Society and incentivize breeding to the finest Straight Egyptian stallions. We encourage all stallion owners to continue offering partial payment of Futurity nominations to mare owners to promote participation in The Egyptian Event and membership in The Pyramid Society.

Furthermore, if you haven't already done so, we invite you to enroll your stallion(s) in the 2013 Egyptian Breeders' Challenge (EBC). This program provides unprecedented visibility for Straight Egyptian stallions at no cost to the stallion owner when your donated breedings are purchased through the EBC auction. In addition, all enrolled EBC Stallions are eligible for nomination in the NEW Golden Scarab Sweepstakes (GSS) futurity program, seeking first and foremost to greatly expand our promotion of the finest Straight Egyptian stallions - especially to purebred Arabian mare owners seeking new breeding opportunities.

For questions about the discontinuation of the Stallion Owner Participation Program, or for further information on other Pyramid Society programs for Straight Egyptian stallions, please feel free to contact us using this form or by calling (859) 231-0771.

IMPORTANT REMINDER!

Chris & John Kassay and Doug Rogers
Lone Tamarak Arabians, York, Ontario, Canada

"We are a small farm looking forward to producing beautiful, healthy, happy and versatile horses for all to enjoy..."

For our November Member Spotlight, we travel to York, Ontario, Canada, to visit Chris and John Kassay at Lone Tamarak Arabians. Chris recounts, "We began our adventure with our beautiful Straight Egyptian horses in 2003 after my father Doug Rogers went to a seminar here in Ontario and came home having purchased two wonderful fillies..."

After watching their fillies grow for a few years, and then having their first foals, Chris and her family began to realize that their love of the breed was running much deeper than any of them had expected. "Our decision to build our facility came with ease and great anticipation of entering deeper into the Egyptian horse world," says Chris.

Upon discovering The Pyramid Society online, the Lone Tamarak family decided to travel to their first Egyptian Event in 2005. "From there, our goals were starting to become clearer. We no longer just wanted the great pleasure of watching our mares and foals in the pasture, but we wanted to enhance what we had with our mares even further. The Egyptian Event enabled us to meet some truly amazing breeders who offered us lots of advice," Chris explains, "They helped us with determining what direction we wanted to take in the future..."

Dogwood Springs Brings the SE to School Fall Festival
Jerel Kerby of Dogwood Springs Arabians in Daingerfield, TX, shares about his recent experience bringing Egyptian Arabians to young people! "At the Breeders' Conference, it was mentioned to get out and share your SE Arabians with others - especially the youth. Well, we had already planned an event like that BEFORE the Breeders' Conference," Jerel reports, "My son Jered's private school had a Fall Fair and had asked if anyone could provide pony rides." Jerel, knowing the gentle disposition of his Arabians, immediately offered and planned the visit with two grey geldings to serve as "ponies," along with a mare with her baby to show the youth. "By the end of the day, we gave well over 100 'pony rides' to little kids of all ages. Our geldings never faltered once or jumped, even as child after child, with parents and people all around, got up and down all day long..."

Lone Star Arabians Hits the Mark with Fall Farm Conference
Amanda Hammack of Lone Star Arabians in Magnolia, TX, writes to recap their recent Fall Farm Conference, "Living Life with Passion". "It was a huge success with an interested, fun and energetic group," she reports. "The day started with a continental breakfast and a focus on working Arabians. Demonstrations of Reining by the Goslin Nix Training Center, green breaking by Kimberly Shutts with Wildfire LSA really was a great start to the day. The guests were next introduced to the staff and family that make LSA a success and shown the facility. The morning continued with the history of how Lone Star Arabians got started with the knowledge given to us by trainer Tom McNair of Gleannloch Farms..."

Me?
