U.S. Brokerage Sales Rise in December, Finally

By John Burnham, YachtWorld editorial director

Sales volumes for U.S. brokerages increased in December to 1,623 boats, up by 6 percent compared to December, 2013. According to YachtWorld member brokerages reporting in SoldBoats.com, it was the first and only month in 2014 in which the number of boats sold exceeded the number in the same month a year earlier. For the year, 30,065 boats changed hands, 5 percent fewer than in 2013.

Boat Sales Ride a Rising Tide into 2015

U.S. recreational boating industry estimates new powerboat sales up 5-7 percent last year; Sales expected to increase another 5 percent in 2015 as boat shows open nationwide

  • With the start of a New Year, the U.S. recreational boating industry is estimating 2014 will see a 5-7 percent increase in sales of new powerboats with continued growth of an additional 5 percent in 2015, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). This is the industry's third consecutive year of steady growth coming out of the recession. It's not just new boats Americans are buying, there were an estimated 955,300 pre-owned boats (power, personal watercraft, and sail) sold in 2013.

Brand Preference and Personal Loyalty

By Tom Reilly, author of Value-Added Selling (McGraw-Hill, 2010)

I like Dell computers. I ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles. I drink Michelob Ultra. I prefer these brands over others. Am I loyal to these brands? Not really. I prefer them over other brands, but loyalty is something I reserve for the people with whom I do business. So, why am I splitting hairs on this definition of loyalty? Personal loyalty can be a more powerful dynamic than brand preference.

What Makes a Successful Sales Meeting?

By John Chapin

My friend has a saying that 80% of life is common sense but only 20% of people are using it. In my experience, a similar rule applies to sales meetings: 80% are a complete waste of time because simple common sense was never applied. Follow these rules for effective sales meetings and you will no longer find yourself in the 80%.

Three Rules for powerful sales meetings

NMMA Moves Forward On New Miami Site After Vote

The Miami International Boat Show got good news Thursday as Miami commissioners voted to spend as much as $16 million during the next year to upgrade the grounds around the Miami Marine Stadium in preparation for the show in 2016.

Commissioners also unanimously approved a license allowing the National Marine Manufacturers Association, the show's owner, to hold the event there, NMMA president Thom Dammrich told Trade Only Today.
