U.S. Brokerage Sales Rise 18 Percent in November

Brokerage boat sales in the U.S. climbed 18 percent in November, with 1,983 boats sold, a gain of almost 300 boats over the same month in 2012. The total value of boats sold in November was $234 million, a 6 percent increase. According to YachtWorld member brokers reporting in SoldBoats.com, November was the seventh consecutive month of record sales in the period, 2008-2013.

Are You A Salesman Or Are You A Broker?

Over the past 40 years I have constantly tried to preach to all of my brokers that we are not salesman. The only product we have to sell is ourselves. That said, we have to use all of our energy and talent to convince the buyer that they should be dealing with us exclusively. This requires developing a relationship where the buyer trusts their broker. Trust comes when the buyer believes you working in their best interest and not trying to sell them on any particular boat.

Recently, the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA) amended our bylaws to require that members of our Board of Directors must be CPYB certified brokers. We are proud and excited to include this change as a sign of the evolution of our board and to enhance our promotion of the CPYB program. Board Members are, and should be, held to highest standards. With the establishment of the CPYB program, we now have those standards.
