Abdel Khalek to Win It All

Bates College squash player Ahmed Abdel Khalek doesn't like losing.

The young man chose to skip last season's individual tournament to focus on his academics. If he enters this year's tournament, Squash Ezine predicts he will win his first Collegiate National Championship.

Treadmills (3 of 5)

We've never loved treadmills. Boring, boring, boring.

But more and more videos are showing us that we had it wrong.

And this lovely mom kept us and her kids entertained for four minutes.

TRUTH & Rumors

  • ShhSquash Ezine's email was down this past week. If you sent us a note telling us how great we are, please send it again to Ezine@SquashEzine.com.
    • If you sent us a note saying something negative, we read it.
  • Speaking of negative, we enjoyed reading a thoughtful post on SquashSite.co.uk's forum speaking poorly of some of the pro tours.
    • But SquashSite gets its money from the PSA. So, anyone speaking ill of the tour gets deleted.
    • Separately, an Ezine reader told us they tried to write something negative of US Squash in an online post and that was deleted too.
    • Big Brother (#LittleGeneral) appears to be alive and well in the squash world.
  • On the positive, Squash Ezine enjoys reading Squash South Africa. In an era of annoying, flashy websites and popup ads, they provide good information in an easy to read format. Check 'em out here.
  • We've often said non-Americans don't get college sports. Here's a quote from a recent SquashMad.com article here which will prove the point.
    • "Think about the Ivy League universities in America; Harvard, Trinity, Brown ... they all have at least one all-glass court."
    • Non-Americans will say - yeah, so what.
    • American squashers will say - are you kidding me?
  • After a multi-year search the Los Angeles Athletic Club appears to have finally found their new head pro in Aussie Brett Newton. 'Smiley' will likely breath new life into the LA scene, assuming he behaves.
  • Congrats to NBC News 4 New York Harry Cicma, who just won an Emmy for his coverage of Hurricane Sandy article here
    • Cicma produced Pro Squash Tour's first t.v. show for New England Sports Network (NESN) back in 2010.
  • It would appear here that Black Knight is the racquet of choice in Maine's squash community.
  • According to FindTheBest.com here, George Washington University appears to have a sizable budget of $325k for their squash teams.
    • And since it's on the internet, it must be true.
  • We hear Princeton Men's Squash fans are kvetching about Squash Ezine predicting the Tigers to finish #17 in the nation this year.
    • Last year Tigers fans were also outraged that we predicted them to finish #7.
    • They ended up finishing #9. To date, no one has thanked us for over-rating them in last year's pre-season rankings. And we don't expect it this season either.
