Squash Player Mag Crushes It

Europe's Squash Player Magazine is awesome. And their Publisher, Ian McKenzie is one of the enlightened squash minds on earth.

In the most recent issue, he got Colombian #1 Miguel Rodriguez to candidly discuss how he views his game.

It's a must read for the thoughtful squash player.

Is It Easier to Get Into College During Early Decision?

So, so, so many junior squash players are focused on college admissions during this time of year.

And a huge question for them remains "Is it easier to get into college as an Early Decision applicant?"

Meghan McHale is Assistant Director of Admissions at Tufts University and in a recent article, she wrote:
  • "The answer is no. And yes. And kind of."
  • "At Tufts, it IS NOT easier to get in during Early Decision."
  • "But sometimes it's harder to get in during Regular."
  • "That said, if you love a place your odds will likely be best in ED."

TRUTH & Rumors

  • ShhOne of our guilty pleasures is Twitter's @SquashRumours taking the piss out of someone.
    • Most recent victim? A bratty British junior who took his loss at the World Junior Tournament out on his racquet here.
    • Hey kid, it's the wizard, not the wand.
  • Sierra Leone's National Squash Team Captain James Fayia is having a tougher week. He is fighting off allegations from a local newspaper that he was drunk during his Commonwealth Games match against the British Virgin Islands' Joe Champman.
    • Game scores were 11-4, 11-2, 11-2 in a match that was generously recorded as lasting 10 minutes.
    • Of course, Champman won the match. Squash is much easier to play when you see only one ball on the court.
  • Rumor has it that staff on site were flummoxed when a hot air balloon fell from the sky just outside the gates of former New Zealand champ Dan Sharplin's country estate this past week. Fortunately, no one on the grounds was injured.
  • It's that time of year when juniors have been traveling to Europe for international tournaments. The Danish Junior Open is marketing itself as the "Cheapest Junior Tournament in Europe." Poster here
    • Sometimes, you get what you pay for.
  • Our hearts go out to the American junior girls, who told us they spent a bunch of cash and traveled all the way to the Italian Junior Open just to play Americans in each round that they could have played in any U.S. event.
    • Sometimes, you don't get what you pay for.
  • Former Princeton squash coach Bob Callahan remains a lion (or should we say Tiger) in the world of College Squash. Today he is bravely fighting off a serious health concern.
    • If Bob touched your life or you want to keep in touch with his updates, you should visit this link here.
  • SquashSite's Fram Gommendy got the scoop on the Ali Farag / Nour El Tayeb engagement. Sweet kids. We wish them well.
  • Maine is one of the small, but great squash communities in the U.S. And local activist Chip Harlow is one of the good guys trying to help support the sport's growth through the PCS Coastal Challenge. Support the cause here.
