Trinity Women are National Champions

Last year Harvard beat Trinity 5-4 to win the 2013 National Championship. This year it was Trinity's turn to win 5-4 and take home the Howe Cup.

Women's Pro Tour Turns 30

The Women's Squash Association (WSA) is marking the 30th anniversary of its formation this week. Founded in February 1984 at the Belfast Boat Club in Ireland, the originally-named Women's Squash Players' Association (WSPA) boasted 23 members.

TRUTH & Rumors

  • ShhOn his way to a squash match at the University Club in Chicago, Egypt's Ramy Ashour was asked to go to the cours via the kitchen and not the normal elevators. It appears Ramy was not dressed to the satisfaction of the staff. 
  • This weekend's college squash individual championships will feature some of the best squash players on earth.
    • Harvard's Amanda Sobhy is CSA's best and is one of the world's 20 best female players.
    • If St. Lawrence's Khalifa and Harvard's Farag meet again in the men's finals, specatators will be seeing two of the 50 best men square off.  
  • Prince is moving its HQ from sleepy Bordentown, NJ to Atlanta. Other functions are being moved to Bradenton, Florida to be closer to the IMG Academy.
  • The U Penn women's squash team from 1972 is unhappy with Squash Ezine this week. 
    • Last week we mentioned that, "in 1973, Princeton University won the inaugural women's national intercollegiate team tournament (Howe Cup)."
    • Evidently, there are some 1972 Penn grads with trophies that claim otherwise.
    • They even sent us this article to back up their case.
    • So, we looked up College Squash's archives and found this article, which says, "before 1973, there was no national intercollegiate team tournament for women."
    • We can confirm that Demer Holleran's 2000 U Penn team won the national championship. Whether or not they were the first Penn women's team to do so appears to be a topic for debate.
