TRUTH & Rumors
|
After years of fighting it, we've heard rumors that the SDA will now allow women to play against the men on its tour.- Squash promoter John Nimick is this week's donkey. Nimick was invited to interview pro players at a recent fundraiser for SquashBusters in Lawrence, MA.
- Those in attendance were impressed by Dan Sharplin's hard fought victory over Thierry Lincou.
- But we heard Nimick gave condolences to Sharplin, interviewing him as the loser. Sharplin took it in stride. But we're not sure if anyone told Nimick he should've actually watched the match.
- How good are College Squash players? A current Ivy League player recently beat Campbell Grayson, PSA #38 in a comfortable four games.
- PSA's "So you think you can ref" videos are fun. But they create confusion by not telling fans the correct call.
- Well run leagues make their officials available to discuss disputed calls and clarify decision making processes.
- Is there any other pro league putting out videos and saying, "Wow, that was a tough one. We don't know, what do you fans think?"
- Brooks School's Doug Burbank is one of the highest regarded high school coaches in New England for getting the most out of his kids.
- American football in the 2024 Olympics is now being discussed (here).
- Hard to imagine a path for American football in its current form, given the nature of the game and given Olympic restrictions on total number of athletes. But money talks - loudly.
- 1932: The first men's intercollegiate singles tournament is held. Beekman Pool (Harvard University) wins the tournament. His father, Eugene, donates the Pool Trophy.
