PSA CEO Alex Gough on Hot Seat

Note: The article we are linking to has quotes from the PSA's CEO which are not appropriate for youngsters.

Before SquashMad.com come on the scene, the behavior of PSA's CEO was covered up by the squash establishment.

But the new website blew the international squash world away when it broke the story that insiders have known for years.

PSA's CEO is a foul mouthed jerk.

Playing in a pro match last week, Alex Gough berated the volunteer referee presiding over his squash match calling him a F***ing wanker for saying "yes let."

Gough then told the referee he was the reason squash isn't in the Olympics [because he was calling so many lets].

Horrified parents were sitting court side with their children watching the leader of the world tour do what he does.

SquashSite Publisher's Surprising Admission

SquashSite
Squash's leadership is behaving in strange ways these days, gagging players from speaking their mind and now shutting down its own fans if they aren't happy with the product.

Every one knows Squash Magazine only reports the good (pre-approved) word of US Squash and its friends.

But we thought SquashSite was an independent publication free to write what they want. . .  Not true.

When readers this week objected to SquashSite removing their posts that were critical of PSA, SquashSite Publisher Steve Cubbins wrote this on his fan forum pages:

"The [SquashSite] forum is absolutely not a no-go area for criticism, we've had plenty of stick from "the authorities" [PSA], you can be sure!"

Evidently, PSA's notorious "gag order" extends to its friends in the "media."

No Championship This Year for WSA

Interim WSA Tour Director Suzie Pierrepont announced this week that the Women's Squash Association will not host a championship event in 2013.

Malaysian Newspaper Slams WSA

Women's squash is a big deal in Malaysia... if only in Malaysia.

So when the locals caught wind of WSA's inability to find a host for its ultimate annual event, the reaction was predictable.

Squash Pro's Wedding Photos Disappear

Rye Brook, NY squash pro Shahid Khan's wedding photos were the subject of a local tv news story, when the photographer took the young couple's money, but didn't deliver the photos.

Squash Pro's Wedding Photos Recovered

Ahh, the power of the press. After a local news station reported on the lost photos, they were remarkably discovered and returned.

Single Dot Ball Better for Amateurs

Some of squash's best minds are coalescing around the theory that amateurs should be playing with the single dot squash ball.

And that the double dot ball should be reserved for pro play.

A Commentary on PAR 11

by Doug Steinberg

This week's Squash Ezine Blog has a submission from a reader who shares how his thinking has evolved on squash's adoption of Point-A-Rally scoring to 11.

MIT Coach Elected to City Council

nadeem MIT squash coach Nadeem Mazen has been elected to the Cambridge City Council.

Although the results have yet to be certified, Mazen appears to be the 9th of 9 councilors elected.

It is very rare for a first-time candidate to win in that city, and Mazen upset a 24 year incumbent to do so.

Gregory Gaultier Was Screwed

Richard Millman stopped short of saying the words. But his point was clear.

At the recent PSA World Championship tournament held in England, France's Gregory Gaultier was treated unfairly.

TRUTH & Rumors

    • Shh
  • PSA will almost certainly finish this year on a down note. It's total player purse was bigger last year than this year.
    • Actually, the total player payout is smaller today than it was in 2008 when Mr. Gough took over the reigns.
    • And if US Squash hadn't propped up the tour this year with its new US Pro Series, things would be horrifically worse.
  • PSA Chief Executive Alex Gough said this week he lost a television contract because the TV execs didn't think viewers enjoyed watching so many lets.
    • In other news, the sun will rise in the east tomorrow and set in the west.
  • PSA touring pro Ong Ben Hee heard the rumors of a merger with the WSA and tweeted he would happily consider rooming with WSA players at tournaments.
    • No word from his wife.
  • After WSA announced they weren't hosting a World Championship event this year, former Australian champ Scott Arnold joined here the chorus of people questioning the current leaders of WSA.
    • We're not sure if criticizing the WSA violates PSA's gag order on social media... but maybe after the merger.
  • Even WSA sweetheart Misaki Kobayashi couldn't resist sharing her frustration here about the fast shrinking WSA.
  • Andrew Shelley competently ran the WSA tour for many years, until (Rumor has it) Natalie Grainger and her pal Suzie Pierrepont helped nudge him out thinking they could do better.
    • Natalie briefly had a go at running the tour, but jumped ship.
    • Now Suzie.
    • Bet the lemmings are wishing they hadn't jumped off this cliff. #Yup
  • The Women's Squash Association is in free fall and hoping beyond hope that the PSA will bail them out and take them over.
    • Imagine how awful life must be if Alex Gough looks like your savior.
  • 30 year old Daryl Selby beat James Willstrop in a tournament this week. No big deal, except they've been playing since Daryl was 7 years old, and this was Daryl's first win EVER over Willstrop.
    • Nobody, and we mean nobody, beats Daryl Selby for 24 years in a row.
